2020-2021 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Colorado)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They offered me if I wanted to defer a year to get a guaranteed spot for RVU CO location. So I would definitely let admissions know if you want to get an official offer for the Class of 2026. You would have to pay $2,000 to hold your seat, which is non refundable. So I would be 110% sure RVU is your school.
Wait, when do they tell you about the deposit to hold your seat for the next class? I am accepted but I am just waiting to hear which class I will be joining

If you haven’t received an official acceptance on the my vista portal then you can’t pay meaning you’re not in this current class and still on the APS waitlist. I was told that admissions will call when you get off the APS list. But there’s also the option to start the following school year instead of waiting but you need to call or email them.

Currently APS for the Colorado campus and on 2 other DO waitlists. As the days go by, I am realizing that RVU is likely my future school (which is very exciting). However, I am across the country, and this would be a big move for me. The short window that I would have to move out there is a bit daunting, and as eager as I am to get started with school, one more year of saving money and preparing to move is enticing. I’m wondering if anyone has an idea of what the admission committee’s response might be if I requested to matriculate next year. I would be so grateful to be accepted into this year’s class and I have no doubt in my mind that I want to pursue medicine, I just don’t want my request to come across as if I am getting cold feet. Any thoughts?
So, I recently opted to matriculate next year with c/o 2026. I live on the east coast and was getting increasingly worried about how complicated it would be to pick up and move on short notice. Plus I really enjoy my current job and taking another year to save makes the most sense for me. All I did was send an email update in response to the APS email letting them know my reasoning. Their response was very positive and said to expect acceptance documents within the next few weeks.
I didn’t get the impression that deferral harms you in any way since we’ve already been accepted. It’s not unreasonable to want time to prepare and if anything, it decreases the burden on adcom trying to fit students in. I actually feel quite relieved to have a game plan lol. Good luck on your decision!

Wow that’s so good to hear. It would be such a relief to have a set plan and move on with my life this year haha. Thanks so much for this!

So far I’m pretty sure only MSBS students that made a tier have been accepted off the APS list.

I agree. When I spoke with admissions back in April, I was told 15 people were MSBS waiting for seats, and they get priority. So it's very unlikely to get in to Colorado this year if you are on the APS list.

Does Utah not have MSBS seat guarantee?

Hi guys, I appreciate it if someone answers my questions as I try to decide between my acceptances.

1)I heard a lot of bad things about finding rotation in the third and fourth years. Can someone tell me if that is correct or not?
2) Does the health insurance from the school cover us for our rotations?
3)Do we have options to buy other types of health insurance?
4)Do the school help us to find our elective rotations?
5) Do we have to pay for our elective rotations, or is there a list of electives that I can choose from?

I honestly really appreciate the input. It’s nice to hear someone give the perspective from another view. With that in mind I am weighing an acceptance which I’m already one foot in having paid my deposit and matriculation fee. I live nearby RVU though and I think I’d really consider staying if they do decide to call me off the APS list. My only concern is increasing the class size by 35 students this year. I’ve spoken to about a dozen RVU students from 2nd -4th years and they’ve all told me that finding rotation sites for clinicals especially 4th year has been kind of a pain and that’s without the extra 35 students for this class. Do you think from your end that increase in class size won’t affect our ability to find sites when students already seem to be struggling?
Hi, I have questions for you can I message you?

I definitely feel like the faculty is very supportive. Even if you need a 1-1 talk about material, most professors will make a zoom call for you to help you succeed. However, some things RVU does like trying to send students to St. Georges University, or increasing tuition and increasing the student body makes me question the school as whole. Most professors are already maxed out teaching 300 students across both campuses. If we increase the student body (just so they can make more money), I feel like that personal touch that professors make will be lost as there will just be too many students. I dont know if you have been to the RVU, but the campus is not really a campus, its a tiny buidling so not sure how that will work out with increasing the student body. It seems like the deans and admin realize that they can do most the teaching on zoom, so why not just accept more students, and collect more money..when rotations are already cramped and some are not high quality and residency spots for DOs are limited as well as the AMA has already addressed that DO schools have a tendency to pop up new schools/increase student body every year when the amount of residency spots stay the same.
Hey, I have a question for you can I send you a message?

I’ll answer what I can, just finished first year so I don’t know all the details with clinical rotations but I know some:

1. rotation location is done via lottery. You spend all of your required rotations in a single location (north Denver, Colorado Springs, etc). I think it may have been difficult this past year due to covid, but it was difficult for every med student. Normally I don’t think it is overly challenging or complicated
2. Yes
3. Yes, you can opt out of the student insurance if you provide proof of other insurance. Many students are on Medicaid
4. Not sure on this one, I think so but I haven’t hear much about it
5. Depends on the elective rotation, but I only know of UCo that requires payment from RVU students for rotations

Hey guys! Anyone on the APS list have any luck yet?
Just checking in. Has anyone on the APS list seen any movement? It’s pretty frustrating that they’re keeping us so out of the loop. The school year starts next month and I still have absolutely no idea as to whether I will be a part of it or have to wait an entire year to begin. Let me know if anyone has heard anything! Thanks!

I am on the list and I have not seen any movement or heard of anyone getting pulled off recently. I heard that the class is pretty much full. I have a feeling that they probably will not be adding many more for this year sadly 🙁

Hello! I just got accepted of the APS! If anyone knows of any housing or what to take/ what I need, can you please message me. I am slightly freaking out that I have like 3 days to get there
