When is STEP 1 usually taken at Meharry? I recently saw that students at Meharry after their clinical rotation, so after 3rd year? Is there an advantage to this? And how does this affect setting up away rotations for 4yr? Sorry for the questions.

Data shows that taking it after the 3rd ( or core rotations in general) year increases performance.

They make us take it after 3rd year. It is true that increased performance has been seen, but I was not a fan. If I had the choice, I would have taken it after 2nd year. Taking Step 1 and Step 2 CK back to back was not my favorite. It would have been nice to only have to study for Step 2 after finishing 3rd year since that is the only test that is scored now. But it is what it is 🙂

Thank you for the response. If there is increased performance after 3rd year rotations, why don't all schools switch to having their students take it after 3rd year.

It varies, some schools give their students the option to take it after 2nd year or 3rd year. The thing is, increased performance doesn't really matter for Step 1 as much anymore since it is pass/fail; you just need to pass the thing. For me, I feel it would have been more beneficial to give me that extra time that I took to study for step 1 after 3rd year and devote it to Step 2 studying. But everyone is different, that's just my opinion(and the opinion of the majority of my classmates). But to each his/her own.

is the portal not working for those who got accepted on the old portal? it just takes me to a deposit payment screen even though i already paid

Only 51 students in the accepted students group chat. There will be 115. Not even halfway. Everyone be calm. One word of advice as well, I’ve scored 2 interviews for with below a 510 MCAT and a 3.6ish BCPM GPA. BE YOU!!!! BE YOU!! Esp here. When you are given your MEHARRY INTERVIEW, be yourself. I’m tired of having interviews with these damn robotic as students who just say what is supposed to be said. I’m telling you they can tell. Be you and Y’all got this !!

Hey y’all, my portal changed and asked for extra documents.. Does that mean anything or do they do that for everyone?

I did as well it just lists "upload requested materials" and then a drop down of already reviewed documents for the day I submitted my secondary. Not sure if it means anything.
I have that too. Hopefully, it means an II in the future.

^ recieved my secondary that day. So safe to say that no one who received it that day has gotten an II yet.

My drop down menu also included “assessment”, “proximity identification card form”, “Signed life insurance beneficiary form” and “technical standards form” for upload.

Am I supposed to upload these? I didn’t get any official email requesting for these documents.

Same. Mine didn’t say that before.

Yep just checked. My portal says the same thing. I checked the portal maybe 2 or 3 days ago. So this is new!!!

***I looked at my search history. I last logged into the portal on the 9th.**

Same. Disregard until you receive an email to submit additional documents.

Yes, it’s definitely new. I checked my portal last in December and it wasn’t there. May be they just updated that for all applicants, so might not mean anything.

hey! not trying to be rude but earlier in the cycle i spoke with someone in admissions and they said the lowest they accepted for this year's current M1 class was 497. the year before that was 495.
I don’t think you’re being rude, so is MSAR lying?.

Speaking of MSAR does anybody know why it seems to say 24 out-of-state applicants were interviewed and 91 matriculated? That doesn’t make sense.
Thanks for pointing this out, lol! That's why I don't trust MSAR because their data on Meharry seems grossly inaccurate and confusing. I wasn't even sure if I would apply based on the stat you posted, but luckily I spoke to a couple people who attended or knew alumni and they confirmed that they accept a large number of OOS applicants.

Was the student a Meharry alum? im sure they didnt mention it but I wonder if they give preferential treatment to students who did their MHS program.

Meharry MHS students get preferential treatment. The MHS program is a linkage program for the Med and Dent schools. It’s basically a year long interview and test to see if you’re cut out for med/dent school.
