2022-2023 Meharry

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can someone please let me know if they say they’re sending out more secondaries.

I know their deadline was 1/15, but I haven’t received a rejection so just curious.

I couldn't get into the meeting so I registered for Thursday. Lesson learned. I am going to log in an hour before.

300 people is INSANITY lmao
Can someone sum up what you guys are talking about?

Apparently, folks shared the links with others and the 300 capacity was not expected. Just got an email to try and join again, but to no avail. I think it is crazy that I got the email and registered that second, thinking it would be capped at 250 but now I can't even get in or get the information I need 🙁 I took time off work for this...

Same here 🙁 I registered for Thursday so I’ll try again then

Talking more financial aid logistics right now:

Need to complete FAFSA + MAP Application for Financial Aid

Does not matter when you submit MAP Application, you will be awarded loans - you can take the max or you can chose how to pay, pay some in cash/savings etc.

Cost of Attendance Includes ONLY - Rent, Utilities, Internet, Cell Phone, Food, Books, Health Insurance*
Student Health Insurance Email: Ms. Sharon Glover, [email protected]

Estimated loans borrowed for the entire program: $388K 😱 if you are borrowing the full/max amount for four years. This would be the loans you would accrue outside undergrad and masters program loans if you have them.

Course Updates/Updated Transcripts

If you have new course completions/updates to your transcripts, you need to send it through AMCAS or via Parchment or National Clearing House - the committee said they will be reviewing this if sent this way throughout the cycle. You can include it in your update letters, but it will not be formally reviewed if not going through aforementioned processes. Also, they do take update letters.

Do we just send update letters to their email?

Notes from Q&A Session:
Do we just send update letters to their email?
Someone is asking that right now.

LORs
Meharry will only take 4 letters of recommendation max, three is their baseline, but you can send one additional. If you send more than four, they will randomly pick and read only four. You send via email with "Update Letter" plus First/Last Name, and AAMC ID in subject line.

Update Letters
You can write as much as you want, but they request update letters in PDF. They would ideally like a page that hits the heavy stuff or your strongest updates, but you can send as much as you want and they will not stop you from writing more, as they understand people want to put their best foot to get admitted.

Complete FAFSA as soon as possible if you have have been admitted or are still waiting to hear back: Meharry's School code is G03506

EDIT: I withdrew my application due to getting accepted to my top choice PhD program

Thanks for the updates. I also wasn't able to get in (please stop sending the Zoom link to everyone, please... it was for those who got the e-mail...) - has anyone asked about when perhaps the next wave of Rs and IIs will be?

MCAT - "We have taken some 497/498 it depends on the committee" (but seems like they take even lower - because the adcom said this girl was trying to get him in trouble, lol). Acceptance/II depends on the committee so MCAT is merely a factor.
"Avg last year's class was 504. 500 is competitive, 505 (really warm), 505+ sky's the limit."

*Multiple MCAT attempts are not a re-flag to admissions.*

I wonder if you have to have a high GPA with such a low MCAT to secure an interview.

About Silence/IIs

"If you have not heard anything at this point, you are still being considered. No news is good news - with a smile." - Adcom member
"We are making progress but are not done with interviews will go into the next few months."
So honestly, as expected HBCU timelines are just longer so you still have potential for a II.

If You Have Not Gotten A Secondary
They are still reviewing/debating primaries for you all. They are still going to be extending secondaries past January.

Need CASPER for II
If it is not complete you will not get an II.

Now they are wrapping up, this was last of it.

You are literally so kind for writing all this for us. Thank you so much🫶

I'd just explained to my wife why I wasn't able to listen to the event while at work but said some awesome people on SDN had volunteered to scribe for us. So amazing, thank you @Cupcakeee78 !

I thought they didn’t accept under a 497. I’m guessing that’s just a rumor.

I think it’s a rumor too! They’re pretty holistic from what I see 🙂 versus Howard (for example) I don’t think they even consider anyone for a II who is below their min MCAT score

Lol that was me 😅. I’m sure several people had the same question and I had to know.
