Accepted pending seat for NM. Interviewed 5/19. I never ever would have believed I’m in this position, but I’ll be declining
That's weird, getting an accepted pending seat for NM when someone got an A recently who interviewed later than you. Makes me wonder if NM is actually full or not.

Can you share why you are declining? More interested on if it is the school or something else. Thanks.

I'm also interested
Also, I am confused by how Burrell does things...
I think the major difference between accepted pending seat and WL is that you are officially accepted into their school, despite a seat not being available for you, which is why they guarantee a seat the following year, and you are also given the option to take a seat on their other campus if one is available. So you are guaranteed to attend their school somewhere at some time ... vs WL there is no official guarantee

I committed to a school that’s better in my opinion (William Carey). My interview was lovely with Burrell but WCUCOM got back to me first and their match list aligns more with where I’m trying to match (Texas)
Are you a Texas resident? Texas residents at Burrell have their 3rd and 4th year rotations in El Paso I thought?

Yeah I’m a Texas resident and you’re right, they do rotations in El Paso. For me it was really program and specialty specific. WCUCOM had more matches to the program/area/specialty I’m looking at in Texas. It was honestly a tough decision to make. Plus El Paso is further from where my family is vs some of the rotation sites at WCUCOM.

My psychic abilities forsee waitlist movement tomorrow
Lol, I hope so, even if its just for ONE of us.

So im seeing a lot of other posts about other schools still interviewing into June due to seats not being full. Does it ever come to a point schools will just pull from the WL or would they Just keep interviewing until the weekend before like some horror stories I've heard?

I am sure they do pull from the waitlist. I really doubt they will continue interviewing in June.

I was going to say something disheartening, but I just hope you all prove me wrong and get off the waitlist if you have a really low mcat score (myself included).

If you don't mind, what was your MCAT?
Mine is low too... 😬😶‍🌫️🥸

I’ll say right off the bat mine was 496 and first time was 494 idk what happened but on practice it was above 500

Trigger warning (this comment contains copius amounts of negative speculation, DO NOT READ IF IN DOWNWARD SPIRAL )🛑:stop:
One of the first few people pulled off the waitlist in may had a 496 and a 3.8, so I expect you're going to get off. For those with say a 495 (& a low gpa) or with 494, I don't expect us to get off especially because of how little movement there's been so far, and because I suspect Burrell only cares about the mcat score when ranking us on the waitlist. I say that because the data on cycletrack and admit.org shows many students with really low gpas and 496+ mcats being accepted. Student demographic must play a minor sway too.

Love the warning lol. Guess I'm not getting off given my score is lower than yours. Not sure why I got the II.

To be fair. I don't have a valid underlying reason to suspect that we won't get off. It's just what I think seeing that many didn't get off last year, and this year has had barely any movement (AT LEAST REPORTED ON SDN, ADMIT, CYCLETRACK and reddit tbh).

That being said, I want you to call me out on it if you do get off.

You've done the research and had I been following up on all that I would have come to the same conclusion as you.

Is this sentiment only for Burrell, or are you having a similar feeling for LMU-DCOM too?

I can't, and wouldn't, speak for the admissions committee, but I would be very confident in saying that you are not just your scores. Burrell really does evaluate you as a candidate on multiple levels. It may be your scores, it may be your extracurricular activities, it may be your previous life experience, it could be your writing and the way you describe your journey. Whatever it was that got you an interview, and a WL spot (or an acceptance) means that they do believe in your abilities.

Getting into medical school is a difficult process. Imposter syndrome is real, even for many of us doing it. Hell, I still get it in my head sometimes that they'll just take it away from me, and I just finished M1 year. Applying, waiting, and hoping against all hope at times, is one of the single most frustrating things - because it's something you just simply cannot control anymore...and that is a hard thing for many of us who dislike not having that control.

Basically, the message is this - have some hope, and be prepared to run the gauntlet back. Get some honest feedback if you can, and keep on keeping on.

LMU dcom claims their waitlist is unranked and I believe it. This year someone with a 494 and 3.5 ish got off in May. They interview a lot of people just like Burrell, but I think they are more holistic in who they choose to interview. Conversely, someone this year did get rejected post ii with a 494, so it seems not to just be about your score. In regards to their waitlist movement, it seems to be more or less the same as last year, but this metric of analyzing the waitlist through whats reported online is frankly unreliable.

At the end of the day Burrell does care about their class being full, for the money. Especially since they are constantly raising their tuition year after year for no apparent reason. I am not saying it's absolutely true that you are your mcat score on the waitlist. However, I would carry a slight temper of cynicism when considering who's admitted to BCOM because they are a FOR PROFIT school at the end of the day, so who they admit ultimately reflects on their reputation and thus dictates their earnings.

We’ve talked a lot about the waiting list and getting off but does anyone have insight on the accepted pending open seat people?
