2024-2025 Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received what I think is a pre-secondary hold. OOS (TX Resident). It says I haven’t been selected to move forward at this time. “Please know this is not a denial.”. Has anyone else gotten this?
Yes just got this💔 but i love arcom🥹

I was just accepted pending space. The wording sounds a bit different than the generic waitlist, given the guaranteed acceptance next year. I genuinely think they are full at the moment. This waitlist will move though. It’s super early.
this is probably correct. they’ve had a lot of interviews but will keep having interviews. there will be waitlist movement if it’s anything like the last few cycles. don’t give up hope!

Was just waitlisted after interviewing on 11/1. Was really hoping to get in. Is there a lot of waitlist movement? I have a deposit date for another school I’m not that wild about coming up but idk if what my chances of getting accepted for real into ARCOM will be.

there will be waitlist movement. how much there is depends on the cycle.

I apologize if this comes across as insensitive, but you say "waitlisted"... was there any mention of the "accepted pending space" or guaranteed acceptance next cycle in your email? Or did it just mention being placed on a waitlist? Sorry, I'm just trying to get some clarity as there have been a few different posts now. Either way, from most everyone I have talked to, there is a good chance you will come off of a waitlist... especially with it being this early on. Keep your head up! You have accomplished a lot already!

Yea, the general email says two things, one being accepted pending space, and that there is always a ton of movement so more than likely we will receive an A in the coming weeks. But they also mentioned that should we not get a spot this cycle, we are auto-accepted to the next class.

I think you and I got the same email. I'm not sure that other people did. That is what I was asking Jax Thomas about.

i would assume accepted pending spot means they just are full right now but once people decline their seat, they’ll pull from that first. expect a lot of movement after deposits are due (this is what i would EXPECT, i do not know i am just a lowly oms-i lol)

was wondering how many seats arcom has . I rarely see anybody rejected in this forum . does that mean mostly people interviewed are accepted accepted pending or waitlist since they interview selectively.

This is kind of what the email mentions.

My email said my status is Accepted Pending Space. It said if I did not get a seat in 2025 class, I would be guaranteed a seat in 2026 class. However, ARCOM is very selective about its candidates and the movement is usually big, so I believe many ppl in Accepted Pending Space may get official seats in the 2025 class. Remember this, ARCOM doesn't rank their waitlist and they will re-review the waitlist before making decision.

we started with 171 but that includes people who had to remediate the year - I'm not gonna talk about remediation on the forum btw

Hi, what is the curriculum style like, i know it is system-based approach and has integrated learning system, but what does that mean and has it like helped

was wondering if you are wait listed , do they check the wait list only post may or they check earlier and give A before too.

From what I understand during the presentations in my interview, the system-based approach means that we learn everything about a system in one block, which includes "science" (anatomy, physiology, biochem), then preclinical stuff (start practicing/learning about doctor-patient interaction), then OMM stuff. I think students will get to do a mix of lecture, lab, and sim lab at the same time

Virtual Meet & Greet

Did anyone here attend the meet and greet prior to interview day? It says it’s through “Microsoft Teams” but I’m not sure what that means. Is there a link because I don’t see it anywhere in the messages.
Thanks!

The link will be sent to your email on that Wednesday (I received mine around 1 PM). The platform is Microsoft Teams. If you don't have the Teams app, when you click "Join the meeting now" hyperlink, it will open Teams in a new tab on your browser. If somehow the link doesn't work, you can enter the meeting by the "Meeting ID" and "Passcode" provided in that email. Teams works like Zoom meeting.

Interviewed 11/15, did anyone hear back yet? I’m feeling a little anxious, a top DO school for me.

+1 “Accepted Pending Space". Interviewed 11/19. I think this Thanksgiving I can start telling everyone I'm going to be a doctor

Does Arcom reject post interview or waitlist is soft r . ?
They said they would communicate the result within 2-3 weeks. Reject is reject. Waitlist is waitlist. I don't think they have a soft reject. Mine is "Accepted pending space waitlist status" and they said "Statistically speaking, we expect to be able to offer you a seat. However, every year is different so we certainly cannot make any guarantees. If, for some unexpected reason, we are NOT able to offer you a seat in the next class (July 2025 entry), you will be guaranteed a seat in the following year's class (July 2026 entry)."

Yes, they do reject post interview. They told me they liked several things in my application but felt I may not be quiet ready for the rigors of ARCOM curriculum. But like, why interview me then? Cause they knew my stats before offering me an interview.

it’s tough to say… the interview is closed file though. i wish i had more info to provide but im not on the admissions side. don’t give up though!

stats is one thing, the ability to deal with med school's rigor is another thing. I think it is on the agenda for the interviewers, although it is closed-file, to ask questions that can gauge the candidate's ability to deal with med school. I was asked multiple questions regarding this aspect.

Is it ok to ask reason for waitlist since they are separating waitlist into accepted pending space and regular waitlist. or just stay quiet .just want to know what else can i do to come off the regular waitlist other then waiting till april.

you could write a letter of intent but i don’t know if id ask why you were put on the waitlist

Anyone interviewed very recently? I wonder if there are people interviewing after Thanksgiving and before Christmas break.

Has anyone from 11/22 interview day heard back? I figured I would have heard something by now but I know it may be delayed by Thanksgiving.

The portal shows there are in-person interview dates in December this week and next week that may still be opened? But the virtual slots in January are full

It was Accepted Pending Space, which guarantees an Acceptance for the next cycle if there really is no seat left for me for this cycle. This is honestly all I need because I already have my heart set on going here 😀 I'm also under the spell of a lady from a small tea shop in town, who was so kind to give me a free sample tea bag, and a punch card as a good-luck wish that I will be back in town to use up the punch card for a free drink.
And yeah, 6 days were actually a surprise for me. I really believed that I would not hear back until after Thanksgiving (like the week of Thanksgiving should not even count because the school might likely be closed and thus no adcom meeting)

Waitlisted! interviewed 11/22. See email below. I know some students were asking about what the email said so I just copied the first part of it:

"Hello. Thank you for your interest in Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine. It was a pleasure meeting you on interview day.

The admissions committee has met and, at this time, placed you on the WAITLIST. However, please do not let that discourage you. We hope to be able to offer you a seat at ARCOM for next year, just cannot guarantee anything at this point.

Seats typically open up after each deposit deadline, as applicants decide to not accept an offer. In addition, each year, medical schools around the country experience what we call "melt". This is when an applicant who has previously accepted a seat decides to attend a different medical school, which give the medical school opportunity to offer that newly vacant seat to someone on the waitlist. Both situations are common.

Throughout this process, please keep all information updated in AACOMAS and send us an email to let us know that updates have been made - [email protected]. Our waitlist is not ranked; we will continue to review your application and let you know if we are able to update your admissions status."

So, it looks like there is difference between WAITLIST vs Accepted Pending Space? i can guarantee there will be waitlist movement. at least a little bit
