This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My friend was accepted last year and she was told that there were around 4000 applicants last year and this year it went to over 6000
Okay so either MSAR is misreporting their verified application or they're lying about how many applicants they have.

Received a pre-secondary rejection today via email after being ghosted for months. My stats were 504 MCAT (128/120/127/129) and 3.94 GPA. Whole application was tailored to underserved service, but I’m ORM and OOS so that played probably played a factor.

The rejection was a fitting birthday present today though 🙁

+1 pre-secondary R. I’m sorry 🙁 Please don’t let this ruin your birthday! You deserve to be happy today

+1 pre-secondary R gpa around 3.23 MCAT 508. Kinda sad I really thought I would at least get a secondary since their median MCAT is 501 :/

Did they say specifically the medical school or the entire programs at the school? I just find it fishy how they go from less than 1,000 to 6,000 in a single year.
They are expanding their class size significantly higher than previous years and they have a new HEPB underway to meet the needs. It's not like they are popping out of thin air to manipulate the number of interviewees and acceptees just because more candidates applied this year.

One thing that extrapolated the number of applicants this year is possibly following the news that HBCUs received a huge amount of donations so it gauged the interest of many premeds.

maybe it’s because now they’re coming up on their third class so more students are willing to apply? I know there’s a lot of hesistancy to apply for new schools
The things to worry about in new schools are almost non-existent for CDU because they have gone through the rigamarole with their twin program and they still preserve their historic network with that program for research, clerkships, or residency affiliation.

I do think MSAR is not up to date because like the previous comments on here mentioned they received over 4000 apps last year (admissions mentioned a few times during their Q&A & the link below). I’ve always thought the MSAR numbers might be reflective of the secondary apps that was sent out since they are selective with who they send their secondaries to? But I could be wrong. Though prior to them parting from ucla/drew program, they weren’t really up to date on MSAR lol

Does anyone have any insights on how financial aid works here? With the Bloomberg donation announced earlier this year, will they award scholarships?

Any current students have past experiences you can share? Gracias

OOS R a few days ago:/ really sad because I have family here but I understand my odds were low

are update letters accepted?
It’s on their website: Admission FAQs | Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science

Im hoping not sending thank you letters doesnt count against me because I didnt get their name and couldnt confirm their contact information with the school since they dont give that information.

Do you all think that interviews are over for CDU? Last year's cycletrack showed the last interviews were end of November, but I saw in this thread they're planning to expand class size this year, so I'm not sure whether to hold on to hope for interview invites.

You can't trust cycle track. Very few people report their IIs on there. You have to trust their website that their last interview is in December. That said, you should have time between your II and interview, so if you haven't gotten an II by the end of next week, safe to say you're cooked, especially since the last week of December is a holiday.

Anyone have a good resource to guide how to write a letter of intent? Only II I’ve received is from CDU and want to send a letter before decisions. Just having a tough time how to properly convey my “YES” if extended the A.

Thanks!

I think anything you write will stand out since you're putting the extra effort in!

Hi! Where would we send a letter of intent for cdu?

[email protected]

Anyone have any idea how many folks were interviewed this cycle? February 15 feels sooooo far away yet so close at the same time. I sent in an update letter late in December and received an acknowledgment email for it. Also planning on a letter of intent at the end of this month.

Did they say the 15th is when we are to hear back from? I thought they said just Feb??

I think they start sending out some decisions at the earliest Feb 15 and continue on through early March. But 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mean valid bc the website said that they send them until the class is full. So im assuming its in waves.

Did anyone who interviewed get an email asking about pre requisites

I haven’t received such an email. But I did send them an update letter that happen to also include info on a prerequisites (English).

I’ll share if I do get an email, though.
