also am I the only one who is lost? Do they have a start date or any info about the start of the year? is there a group chat for admitted students? I feel like I haven't heard much from Drexel.

On the portal it says new student orientation and first day of classes is August 4. White coat ceremony is on August 8.

Does anyone know if you have to select commit to enroll in the CYMS school in order for you to submit the “your decision” tab in the portal? I have filled out all the tabs but it says unable to submit form. I want to go ahead and submit it so I can see my campus assignment

We have a lot of affiliations with multiple hospitals across the country (mainly in PA and DE, some in CA, NC, NJ) that would be considered a home residency program that has preference. A lot of things aren't perfect with moving and having different sites, but there's no real compromise to your education and there aren't any real disadvantages that being a school that sends students away from the medical school location brings.

I can only speak to what I've experienced with getting away rotations for fourth year and what I've seen people match into in the graduating class this year, but generally Drexel students don't find any trouble matching to programs they're interested in going to as long as you do your part in getting good scores/putting together a good CV. Drexel is still a solid MD school with a long history that lends itself to a reputation, so it opens a lot more doors than you'd think despite looking at the "ranking". People match into top tier academic institutions while also being okay with matching into community small profile institutions because Drexel attracts students who have a wide, incredibly diverse variety of goals for their career.

I have recently accepted a position with the DPMS program, however I have some questions about the medical school. I am from California and I would like to do most of my rotations in Cali during my 3rd and 4th year. I am a little confused about the lottery assignments to the medical school. My first question is: do they assign you to the schools (either the Philly or west reading campus) starting M1? Or does that happen during m3 and m4 years

If you get assigned to the smaller campus will I still have an opportunity to do rotations in California? Even though they have a hospital for rotations?

Ultimately I do want to do my residency in California. Would attending Drexel limit my options on getting a residency in California?

Does anyone know how likely you are to get campus preference if given a recent acceptance after April 30? (I put philly as my pref)

M3 here. You are assigned a campus before M1 after you are accepted to the medical school, as you do your preclinical at the campus you are placed at. If you are accepted earlier in the cycle, then you will be able to list your preferred campus and then they will try to match you at that campus. If you are accepted super late, they assign your campus. I feel like almost all of the DPMS grads in my class are in the Philly campus.

No, if you are at the Reading campus, you rotate at Tower and do not participate in the lottery for the regional sites. If you are at the Philly campus, the lottery for year long regional sites usually is open for listing preferences in December of M2 year iirc.

Go look at the match lists. They have been matching people to CA for years and years.

Assuming you're asking about rotation sites: Yes, so you rank the regional sites you want to go to (ie Kaiser 1, Reading 2, Allegheny 3). From there it's a true lottery.
 
Has anyone accepted post May 1 gotten a campus assignment yet? If yes how long did it take to receive post acceptance?
 
Curious, for all the people late deferred (March/April) and then accepted, did yall get any sort of scholarship?
 
Just got my financial aid package and it's only loans LOL.. does anyone know if Drexel gives need-based aid or just loans and merit scholarships?

Hey current student here. Historically only the first choice really mattered because most people want to be at an all year site and don't want to deal with the stress of going to new hospitals every 4-5 wks, demand has always exceeded supply. Vast majority of seats are filled by the end of round 1 and if you don't get one, you'll most likely be a rotator. There's 1-2 unpopular site like the Delaware site, and it is a safe to rank that as second because it doesn't get fill up by the first round and there's usually leftover spots.

How popular is Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh? I hear it’s a good choice for people interested in surgery.
 
Can any current student comment how long the online orientation is? We have only been given one date - is it one day long or will it be multiple days?
 
So anyone from middle of March or later waiting to hear back? Just radio silence (haven't gotten deferred or heard anything at all)

i interviewed in late march and am still waiting to hear back! we were told 8 weeks on our interview day, which seems to have been the case in previous years. i wrote a letter of intent a bit later.

Its a week long in person and you have a couple of mandatory sessions per day. The friday is white coat ceremony day so you don't have any sessions.

My year the Philly students generally either got their first choice, or ended up as a rotator student. A handful are lucky enough with their lottery number to get their second choice. Usually people who do not have a site they specifically want or is near home want to stay in Philly, and with Crozer no longer existing as a hospital rotation site, the only option is to stay in Philly for *most* of the year (and this also depends on openings) is to be a rotator now.

Drexel matches to California every year. The most represented state in each class is, outside of being local to PA/NY/NJ, almost always from CA and people want to go there and make it happen.

Since you're going to the DPMS program, you have a wealth of mentorship in former DPMS graduates who will offer you a lot of resources/advice/real talk that the general student body does not get lol. Lean into that and ask them for advice rather than through this forum!
 
got the A today for Philadelphia campus after interviewing 3/12, never put on hold. Got an email, no call. OOS LM 74.5, I withdrew and hope it goes to one of you!

did anyone else get an A after withdrawing? I interviewed mid/late March, withdrew early May, and got an acceptance email yesterday morning
 
i have to commit to enroll by 5/30 for my one A but drexel is my top choice school but have yet to hear back.. anyone know what i should do?
