2024-2025 Hackensack Meridian

I guess technically if the GroupMe is at around 270, we can estimate that there’s probably ~300 total admissions offers. This would means they need to give out ~100-140 more offers this cycle. I don’t know though, maybe someone else can chime in if this doesn’t logically track.

I don’t want to erase all hope but saying there will be 100-140 more offers in post-CTE June is kind of wild. Logically there should be very minimal movement past the CTE date.

It’s way more like that a lot more As have been given out than ~300. It’s the very end of the cycle, almost every school has sent out the vast majority of their As. There will likely be a handful or 2 of more acceptances because of students who decide not to attend last minute. But most students who are holding onto this acceptance this late in the cycle are attending. They would’ve released their A weeks ago if not.

The group me is such a terrible marker of the class size for the reasons I mentioned above. Idk why y'all are using that as a way to gauge waitlist movement its just not a good thing to gain or lose your hope on.
Yea you’re right actually. There’s probably much more than 270 offers made. Plus the people in that are not all accepted students from this cycle. I don’t know what proportion of them are not admitted students.

Someone should call admissions and ask what the deal is. I actually would but the admission office knows me pretty well and I don’t think it would help. Maybe a new face can offer a new perspective.
i would call but they are not answering calls. Not sure what happened to them

There’s also tons of upperclassmen lurking in the GroupMe

I will point out that the school got fully accredited in 2023 so the first cohort to apply under that was 2024, I think technically being “unaccredited” scared people off before so that’s another reason to question that those trends would be the same

Hoping to join all of you who were pulled off the WL this week!!
Been hoping the same for the past 16 weeks too… tbh losing hope now. The school seriously needs to reconsider its stance on putting a lot of people on the waitlist and then not sending any timely communication with such applicants. In fact, I heard they put nearly everyone on the waitlist after an interview which is really fustrating, like just reject me if there isn’t a match, dang!!

Sorry, probably a bad choice of words, I meant to say there isn’t a single post II rejection posted anywhere on the last years forum or the admit webpage as such with others. Also, logically speaking, if the acceptances issued were really 459 or so last year out of the 700 or so interviewed: it does seem like many students don’t end up choosing them, so rejecting prospective students could risk a) not the getting the highest stats students / or really interesting students and b) not filling the entire class size as they expected…

Edit: I could be totally wrong but this school and the admissions committee seem like they care about applicants, but I dont know why I’m getting a feeling they don’t give a crap about putting someone’s life on hold even if they know they aren’t going to accept them.

They gave a few Post II R’s before but I’m thinking you have to give off some major psychopath vibes to get one lol

They’re protecting their yield. By basically stashing students on the waitlist. Makes sense from their perspective. Sucks for us though.

Like if the yield is atrocious (I.e. 30%) then they can pull from their waitlist where they stashed all their students. And they can still select who they want. They wouldn’t have to worry about not having enough students or accepting students they don’t actually want.

Any updates on movement? Has anyone called admissions? I would call but I have a lot recently for other reasons and I don’t want them to get annoyed by me lol
Same, I would’ve called too but I’ve already sent a lot of stuff already (because I’ve had additional activities/publications/research stuff) that I’ve communicated. Can someone call and, if possible, try to extort some information tho?? If anyone does please please share because radio silence from this school is ridiculous…

I can call, any specific information you want or just general stuff

Thank you, you’re a legend! Nope, just any thing you’re comfortable asking. Although what I would circle around if I was calling myself is if a) the admissions committee is still meeting regularly and b) if some seats are still open (as in offers were made to some people, and they haven’t committed yet). But again, I’d rather you ask questions you are comfortable asking rather than force feed my question.

they said the class is full :/ not much hope left for movement but they were nice about it. they did say anything can happen but it’s unlikely

Damn, that sucks
Just to share, I did email them some time back and they did say the chances of getting off the waitlist were considerable (as a fair reminder before withdrawing) but idk atp this school is gaslighting me so hard lol. Either way, I’m not about to mess up my mental health by checking this page every hour and I’m moving on to focus on submitting my application on time (unlike last year) and I wish all of you the best of luck!🫡

Best of luck man, I’ve also submitted my reapp. We’ll be back and we’ll be stronger 💪

i just wish they would be transparent about this process. still waiting on some waitlist movement.

Yea, unfortunately I don’t think this is unique to this school tho. Feel like most schools keep students on the WL in a weird limbo state until they r rejected or the cycle ends. But I guess they kinda were transparent, as they told someone yesterday the class is full and anymore movement is unlikely.

Idk if anyone else noticed this, but I see a discrepancy in the data between MSAR and Hackensack's databook. According to HMSOM's databook, it shows the median MCAT for 2023-2024 cycle was 510. But MSAR says 515. That's a HUGE difference. Does anyone know why this would be the case?
I think that was a typo, because there's an increase in average every year so it doesn't make sense for there to be a drop that year

Spoke to the school on the phone a few weeks back regarding waitlist movement. The woman on the phone asked, "Wait... you wanted to be on our waitlist? You don't seem to have accepted our offer."

WHAT.

I responded to the waitlist email (late January) within a week with a full letter of intent detailing how this school was my first choice. I also uploaded that document to the applicant portal. There was no link or button within the original email to click to "confirm" my spot on the waitlist. I don't know where there was some miscommunication, but it kills me to think that I'm losing another year of my life to reapply next cycle over some dumb clerical error.

She reassured me that she can put me on the waitlist now and that it "shouldn't" have any affect on my chances of acceptance, but I find it hard to believe that being added to the waitlist in mid-late May after a lot of spots have been already offered wouldn't adversely affect my chances.

I'm devastated; I really wanted to attend this school both for their accelerated curriculum and to stay close to some of my aging family members, but it looks like I'll have to go through this again.

Time to break out my MCAT books again and shoot for an even higher score this year. Damn.

I also had a wild experience. They called me back in april, but then they declined their own call after one ring. I was literally about to accept the phone call and then they declined the call. I tried calling them and I even emailed them saying I got a call but it didnt go through, and they said they didnt recognize the phone number. Which makes no sense because the voicemail literally said somewhere in the lines of this hacksensack school of admissions.

Wait you guys responded to the email where they waitlisted you? This is a paragraph from that email:

“At this point in our admission process, we would like to invite you to be on our waitlist. Our waitlist remains active until July and if an opportunity for admission becomes available, you will be contacted. If you are no longer interested in being considered for admission, please send an email to SOMApplications@hmsom.edu to withdraw your application.”

It literally says you’ll be contacted if they choose to accept you. And to contact them if I want to withdraw.

Did anyone who got off the waitlist send a reply to the waitlist status update?

Absolute insanity. From what I remember, the waitlist email only prompted a response if you wanted to turn down their waitlist offer.

I can’t overstate how big of a mess this school is. I got 3 different confirmation emails when I withdrew from the waitlist.

I’d maybe reach out to the AAMC? There should ideally be a penalty for errors like this when the cost is a year loss of attending salary. At the very least I’d share this in the next year’s thread. I wish you the best with the new cycle.
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT?!? I assumed the waitlist was opt-out, not opt-in. I have no idea how this was miscommunicated but either way I feel awful.

I'm not sure how reaching out to AAMC would help, plus, I figured I might as well reapply next cycle, just in case. I'm hesitant to burn any bridges until I actually matriculate into a program.

The waitlist was opt-out. U were put on the WL unless u asked not to be.

hey does anyone have the accepted students gc link, the one in previous threads is not working...

They said class is full to me yesterday but they didn’t say there’s no movement. They told me people can withdraw anytime between now and orientation. People get off the waitlist bc of this. Not common but still a slim chance. I’ll take my chances. This is my dream school
Orientation starts Monday, the 7th, right? Is it the start of orientation or the end that marks the end their cycle? I'm not really holding out hope, but it'd be nice to have a hard deadline.

I know this process really sucks but you’re gonna be a doctor! You don’t HAVE to go DO, you GET to go to med school. If you feel strongly about going MD, you get to reapply. Congrats future doc!

Just got the email saying the their class is officially closed. Congrats to everyone who got in and sorry to everyone who was still holding out hope (including myself lol).
At what time did you receive it? I haven't gotten anything yet.
