2024-2025 Hofstra

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If we interviewed early and didn’t hear back, do you think we still have a shot at getting the A or is this equivalent to a waitlist that would be given in March?

I'm leaning towards wait-list.

Hope everyone had a great holiday season! For those who interviewed on 11/20, have you heard back yet?

If anyone has an interview scheduled for January or February and is looking to trade dates, please let me know! I have one next week, happy to discuss it further. Thank you!

Haven't heard back, complete late aug. Am I screwed?
After interview or before?

I received an invite yesterday and was complete after you, so there’s still time!

Does anyone have any insight into when the next set of decisions should be released? (for context, interviewed mid-December and was told that our group wouldn't be included in the December decisions)

Wait, don't they historically also release A's at the end of January? Or is that only for people who interviewed in Dec/Jan?

Does anyone know if Hofstra prioritizes stats over other aspects of the application? I heard a rumor that since it’s a relatively new school, they’re aggressively trying to elevate their mean mcat scores to boost their prestige.

Does anyone have any insight on how the EMT certification works, and how that might change if you already have an EMT certification? I am curious also about how working on the ambulances work throughout medical school, or if it is only a several-week thing. I've really enjoyed my experience volunteering as an EMT in college, and would love to do so throughout medical school as well if that is an option!

Any guesses when the next decision wave is gonna be?

Did anybody else from 12/11 interview get a decision yet?
I interviewed mid December.
If you look at the 2023-2024 cycle there are some folks who interviewed at that time last year and their A s tricked in Jan 27- Feb 2.

Current zsom student.
The first block is an 8 week intro course that includes getting a state EMT certification. The state requires enough ambulance rides to get 10 patient encounters, which usually takes 2 shifts, rarely 3. Prior EMT's go through the course with the rest of the class. After the first block there are no EMT-related requirements.
If you love EMS theoretically you can get a part-time gig or do the occasional one-off shift for some extra cash, but I don't know anyone who does. Your free time will become very valuable and you'd have to be really passionate about EMS to justify it, but it's definitely an option if you want it.

+ 1 OOs 1st tier WL, anyone know what that means? how many "tiers" are there or are they all 1st lol
