2024-2025 McGovern

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Based on past practices, McGovern is not known to issue any scholarships before match process. This kind of makes it hard to make a decision if someone else offers you a scholarship but such is life.

For those who prematched... does anyone know if we have to pay a deposit of some sort after we accept? Im not seeing it anywhere but someone told me we had to

I don’t see it either, maybe they will email us with more info

I did not. But for a point of information: when I went to Preview day, the presentation stated that we can feel free to send a Letter of Intent but it will have no impact on the decision.

Fellow prematchers, did yall just fill out the quick admission response on the portal? I haven't heard anything or gotten a confirmation email or anything else besides the initial acceptance email.

Nothing else to do right now, unless they send you an email for a visit day, and then after Match Day you will have more paperwork to do

To elaborate on this for others. The Preview day was pretty informative on the matter. Once you've done your interview, they've pretty much assessed and ranked you among their applicants. All LOI and update letters will not be put into consideration until after the match in situations like waitlists.

Howdy y'all!

I was blessed enough to get an interview at McGovern on their first day of the season. I was hoping that this indicated that I would also be one of the first to pre-match (not the case). I was curious if anyone with previous cycle experience knew if an earlier interview indicated higher rankings. I am grateful to have interviewed in the first place and I don't want to come off as ungrateful or inconsiderate of those who interviewed later or not at all. However, I would be nice for this anxiety to end. Best of luck and cheers!

I will say that most of my class did not prematch. McGovern in the past did not like to give out a lot of pre-matches and I still believe this to be the case. Although, a lot of people did pre-match a few days ago. Just keep the faith up, I know it’s difficult.

II 9/17, In State, LM 65. Interview 10/25
I have a comparatively low LM, so I figure they must have sent an II for reasons other than MCAT/GPA. My strategy is to emphasize my extracurriculars during the Interview. Any advice? Am I wrong? Congrats to everyone who pre-matched!

edit: Secondary submitted 8/16

the interview is the only time to really expand on your ecs in a very "how it relates to medicine and a career in medicine" way.

talking about grades and stuff (regardless of if high stat or not) is not recommended.

just be you and be proud of the experiences that bring you to interview for medical school!

Your interview is so they can meet you and see how you view things and express yourself. They may ask you about things in your app like activities but don’t feel like you have to do some sales pitch

Yep, there will be a natural flow to any interviews and you should let the interviewer lead you. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to promote yourself within the context of their questions.

Did they open up more interview days close by? Last time I checked this thread people were saying the earliest date was December lol

Yeah when I signed up (last week about) there were only 2 December dates, and 2 January dates. Maybe someone gave up a spot.
Since interviews finish in January, does this mean they are done/nearly done sending invites?

Submitted on 06/11. Starting to get really scared since I haven't heard anything from McGovern 🙁

Hey guys! what were the prematch waves of McGovern last cycle? so ik the first round is always 10/15. Do you guys know the subsequent rounds and what they usually are from the previous cycles? @wysdoc

I don’t track each acceptance release date the way I do for the interview invitations.
You can search the 2023-2024 McGovern thread if you want to.
The dates a school did things last year may not correlate with this year.

Does anyone know if McGovern offers scholarships to their prematches?
I have heard of one person who received a small scholarship offer after pre-matching. Based on my own experience though, they seem open to giving money to recruit people they want, so if you have scholarship offers elsewhere that would impact your rank list/attendance after you match, reach out to admissions to let them know!

I am under the impression McGovern does not give out any scholarships until after match day. Can anyone confirm? Aware of someone who got money from Dell as a prematch but still ranked McGovern higher while having a prematch at both and got a scholarship after match process was complete.

Hey y’all! Kinda random but wanted to say not to be afraid to wait a couple days before selecting your interview date. When I got the II the only interview dates available were in January. I checked today and now there are multiple November dates. Just thought somebody might find this useful.🤷‍♂️

good, because having only January dates available in October is wild

I re-confirmed with one person in my class (2027) that she prematched McGovern with a small scholarship then got a larger one through the scholarship application after matching. She’s the only one I know of, though

I was so excited and worried the available dates were going to fill up, that I didn't even think of waiting to schedule. The only dates left were in January 🙁. And this was early October.

Do you think it would be worth emailing admissions and letting them know I would available for an earlier interview date if there are any or as they come? Or will I seem bothersome? @wysdoc

During the interview a staff member said that they will probably wait till the holidays, if I recall correctly both thanksgiving and Christmas, to release more pre matches.

What are the requirements after acceptance? Is it just to maintain a C or higher in prerequisites or is it to just complete the classes with a passing grade?

Also TMDSAS only does A, B, C, D correct? So, hypothetically, a C- is still a C?

If your grades fall off a cliff your final year in college, any medical school will have some questions for you.
Do your best still. TMDSAS would score a C- the same as a C, but the medical school will see your actual transcript before you enroll in all its detail.

Has anyone gone to a Preview Day yet? They say to "dress comfortably," but I'm wondering what people are actually wearing. Is it business casual? Coat and slacks?

The one I attended, people seemed to take "dress comfortably" very literally. Maybe a handful business casual but everyone else was casual, I think some even wore shorts.

I pretty much wore a polo and khakis w/ tennis shoes. You had people in t-shirts and others wearing coats and dress shirts.
