Has anyone submitted a LOI or update letter? I uploaded it onto the portal but wasn't sure if I needed to do anything else to make sure that they can see it....

when I got an II they asked for updates to be uploaded to the portal a few weeks before the interview, but I’m not sure about the process for pre-II if that applies to you

@redexpomarker if you are using the Tapatalk app to post on SDN, try deleting it and re-installing it to get rid of the odd emoji barrage on your posts.
If this doesn't work try replying to posts without quoting the previous poster.

I’m going to make a Michigan post every Michigan Monday until I get an interview. Here goes:

Mine just shows "file upload complete" on the actual checklist with the title of my submission ... yours sounds like it did not go through?

I'm working on the pre-interview question about which faculty you'd want to work with, and a few of my answers are getting a bit heavy on the research jargon. I'm worried its too technical, but its tough to describe why I'd want to collaborate with a lab without discussing my research experience in detail. Did y'all keep it simple or no?

Not interviewing here (yet I’m hoping) but can’t see how this would be negative at all. Conveying genuine interest I imagine would only do you well and I feel like the question kinda forces you to get into your background a decent amount

Honestly when I interviewed my method was to keep things as simple as possible, and if the interviewer wanted more clarification then I explained further. For example, I was asked why I was interested in the school, and one of the points I brought up was research. I just stated I was interested in infectious disease/microbiology research and that UMich could help me a lot with exploring that area. I then listed some labs/projects that I could see myself being involved with. I just had three labs though, and I feel like like that's all you really need to get your point across regarding research you're interested in and that you like the school.

Overall I wouldn't stress about it. They made it very clear on interview day that they know you're a good candidate and they just want to see your personality. So don't worry about trying to dwell too much into your background in research unless asked. I would focus on expressing your genuine curiosity and passion. I hope this helps 🙂

This helps a lot, thank you! I think I’m going to go into more detail in the questionnaire and keep it simpler during the interview. I’m hoping it will show I took a deep dive into their research opportunities

You got this! You're being interviewed for a reason. Just be prepared, be yourself, and may luck be on your side on interview day 🫡

MSTP applicant here. Just got put on a pre-II waitlist because all of the interview slots were filled whomp whomp. How often do people get an II from this and are any MSTP applicants willing to help a sista out??

Wondering the same thing!

are they waitlisting everyone?

Should we expect to hear decisions this Friday for people that interviewed in October? I cannot stop thinking about it; this is one of my dream schools.

I feel your struggle!! They release decisions at the end of the month after you interview, but someone would have to say if they ever release them earlier

Well they say that’s the latest you will hear, but based off of cycletrack data from last year, it seems like they typically release decisions around the 3rd Friday of the month. Just wondering if anyone can verify that.

last year was the third Friday in November… I know they said Oct. applicants would find out by the end of November but I am also hoping it’s sooner
Pretty sure they did it last year on the third Friday because Thanksgiving was early that year. They like to give decisions before the holiday breaks, typically.
