If I knew back when I applied what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered and would have had a much broader school list. Not gonna w/d after putting in time with this place and nothing else yet, but it's dead last for me now. If this is the honeymoon phase, can't even imagine how uncomfortable 4 yrs. could be there. OU should send R's now that it's Dec. and they know exactly where we all fall under their absurd, touchy-feely new scoring system.

what bothers me a lot is that more than half of our score comes from what our interviewers thought of us. like they literally only knew us for 45 minutes and what if they had a bad day/had biased opinions about us. and we have spent years doing volunteering/shadowing/research just for them to judge us and base our future. completely unfair system OU has, i'm honestly done with this place and how much they've been leading us on...can't imagine the next 4 years like this especially with their new curriculum rolling around which none of them know have no idea about.

It's also worse because they ask such easy questions. I genuinely don't know how they can distinguish between good and bad applicants over Zoom when they ask stuff like "when's one time you worked in a team successfully?" Nobody I know was even asked why they want to be a doctor during their interview.

yeah i know it's so subjective. tbh my interviewers acted like they didn't care at all what i was saying and it sucks because that is more than half of our score, not even any of our extracurriculars/stuff we have done for years. i honestly hate OU's admissions process this year, i don't think i'll reapply here ever again even if i don't get in anywhere this cycle, this completely changed how i viewed them as a school. im tired of their BS

This makes me genuinely curious about what they define as a "good" interview. My interviewers were also apathetic and asked scripted questions. Creating a connection with them would be incredibly difficult since we all share different interests and aspirations. With this in mind, the interview being 60 points makes no sense at all. We didn't all work hard throughout our pre-med journeys for it to be shot down by breakout room zoom interviews.

does anybody know if they leave a voicemail if you don't answer? I am from OKC and get a lot of spam calls with 405 numbers but none have left a voicemail so I figured it was not OU calling.

They send you an email in addition to the call. The email has instructions about how to accept the offer on the portal and other stuff like that.

Congrats to everyone with an A!! So excited for all of you!

I am truly nobody important, but I wanted to put my 2 cents out there about a few random things.
  • admissions calls
    • will likely be from a (405) 271-XXXX number - all OUHSC phone numbers start this way
    • admission's number is (405) 271-2331
  • admissions process
    • this might just be me, but I think a lot of people are being quite harsh on the admissions staff... yes, they should be more clear about things - but it would seem that they're figuring things out as they go. I think, like everything, take what they say with a grain of salt.
    • I know we're all anxious to hear back (myself included), but I was told that we could hear back anywhere between 2 weeks after our interview all the way to mid-Jan/early Feb.
      • obviously, this is a large gap - but I would just assume to hear later than sooner from them
    • also, I talked to Dustye once, and she said that they won't send out Rs or WLs before the break, so as not to spoil anyone's holiday
  • also, OU/OUHSC has a paid winter break from 12/23 to 1/1
    • this doesn't mean that the admissions office will be out this whole time, but I wouldn't expect to hear from them during this time
    • would also give or take ~3 days at both ends of this for any time they may have taken for pto
  • curriculum change
    • I would agree that they haven't done a great job explaining the curriculum change; however, I will say that OU Tulsa did a FANTASTIC job explaining what was going on.
    • At my interview for OU Tulsa, they seemed to be able to answer questions about these changes much more in-depth & it made me feel much more reassured.
      • The students at OU Tulsa also seemed to know a lot more about the upcoming changes than the OKC students & seemed to actually care about what changes were about to be put in place.
        • They have students on a curriculum committee that helps to decide on changes
        • They mentioned that this change has been a long time coming & is based on other models implemented elsewhere
          • I say all of this just to help reassure anyone + to encourage peeps to try talking to OU Tulsa about these since they seem to have a better grasp on what's going on
  • interview itself
    • agree that the general OU interview leaves much to be desired
      • the first half is based on the AAMC core competencies & most all of the questions they ask are behavioral
        • I don't know how they would score this for sure, but my guess is that they'd use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) as a part of the rubric
        • having been a part of conducting interviews for jobs, a lot of the time they have a checklist/rubric of sorts.
        • I don't think the score would be based purely off vibes because that leaves a lottt of room to introduce bias (which according to the training we get at OU, we shouldn't do lol)
      • I do wish that they would put more effort into conversing with us/getting to know us in the second half of the interview, but my guess is that the interviewers and staff are feeling a bit swamped (I believe they upped the number of interviews from about 400 to 600 this year).
    • OU Tulsa's interview is much more about getting to know you
I apologize for the hodgepodge of my thoughts and info. I hope some of this was semi-helpful.

I hope everyone has a great break! Good luck to you all!

Sorry, but holding out on sending known R or WL to "not spoil anyone's holidays" is absurd and actually makes it far worse for a lot of people. They're not doing anyone a favor by delaying important info like that. Why would anyone make plans to come and tour in January if they don't need to, for example. Maybe people have to put down deposits elsewhere and would benefit from knowing now if OU was not happening for them at all or not likely for them. A lot of folks have to plan moves and stuff and knowing status now could be extremely helpful in that regard. Oklahoma has other locations people live and have to move from... Tulsa and OKC aren't the whole state obviously. I have no problem with the people working in admissions and for the most part, they have all been really pleasant. I do, however, greatly resent the fact that I applied to the OU Med that was represented and then Boom! - without notice to be able to make an informed choice to apply or not to the only MD school in the state... it's suddenly a whole different OU Med in its place. I know they just got serious bucks but serious bucks always come with strings and an agenda attached. This is exactly what seems to be happening now at OU Med. It's also more than disconcerting how they are spitting out a few A's here and there periodically while stating that they're holding on to known R's and WL's right now. In fact, it's pretty cruel.

Agreed, everytime I see that they are making acceptance calls on here it makes me wonder if I will be getting a call, which has been a let down each time thus far. This constant uncertainty and questioning my worth as an applicant makes it much harder to enjoy the holidays.

I respect everyone's right to disagree here, but if the only reason they are not telling people with R's yet that it ain't happening for them at OU Med this cycle is because they "don't want to spoil holidays" I maintain that is a cop out &/or greatly misguided on admissions' part. Changing so many of their practices mid-stream is also not a noble way to implement things and I personally find it very concerning. Applicants reasonable rely on due diligence to make informed decisions and all this OU shifting around without warning and helpful info. just throws precedent and prior representations into the trash. We would ALL have known by mid-late Dec., and not just a select few, where we stood at OU Med up until this cycle, even if it was a R or WL. Now most of us have no clue about anything, including the very curriculum itself.

Sincerely and genuinely wishing y'all great landings, at whatever med school that may be, and well-earned success in this unfortunately out of control arms race of a process.

Not sure if this has been said but I’m sure there will be a larger WL than normal and a lot more WL movement considering their higher scoring OOS applicants will likely attend other schools.
Spot on, though many of us may end up also committing elsewhere as well by the time they decide we are worthy.

I will also add that though the process has changed, not everyone would know their status by the end of the year. One of my friends, who is a current MS2, did not even get an II until January, interviewed in early Jan, & didn't hear back until Feb. I know this is not the norm, but it shows that the precedent that's been set has always had some ebbs and flows.

I say all this not to argue, but just to try and offer some peace of mind for those of us who are a little extra anxious and/or doubting our worth as an applicant at this point in the cycle. We're all at this point for a reason (because we've all worked hard), and though it's frustrating to not know at this point - we will know soon! OU is also not the end-all-be-all, stay the course & we'll all get to be called doc someday 🙂

It's becoming annoying to receive notifications for the same repetitive generic gripes which are largely based on hearsay. It detracts from accepted applicants accomplishments and the excitement they're entitled to. If this cycle has left such a bad taste in your mouth, withdraw your app.

I don’t feel strongly that what’s said on this forum has any effect on how accepted applicants feel. If you get the A, why care about our complaints?

Yeah I think it’s GG.

They probably have all the decisions already figured out. I highly doubt they’re going to go through people in just 2 weeks in Jan.

We’re probably already rejected or waitlisted and they’re just not telling us 5 days before Christmas lol

Yeah it’s probably the rejections and waitlists for us. I wonder if we will be told our waitlist position, or if there will be twice the waitlists like there were interviews this year.
I hear you! I wonder how many people will be touring in Jan and the whole time they're on the thing, the admissions people already know who is an R. Then shortly after touring, applicants find out. Man, that's gonna feel extra bad I'm sure.

Our best bet is that seats clear up because OOS students get accepted elsewhere. Absolute joke of a strategy to try and pump up stats from OU. A publicly funded facility should not be acting this way.

i'm so sick of this place now. their system is honestly just BS. never reapplying here again after. i hope you all have a nice break to relax. We have all truly put in a lot of effort to make it this far, wishing you all the best! i honestly wonder how many people they have accepted so far if we are just left with the rejections/waitlists in mid-jan?

Agree with all of you and hope y”all can get some genuinely good downtime over the holidays. May they be excellent as well! We all definitely need to recharge our batteries before this clown show of an application process rolls back into our lives come Jan.

I really don’t get this negativity. I understand that the application process is a highly emotional process (hence why they push rejections to after winter break). I also understand that the changes to the application process have been confusing. That being said, we are not privy to their reasoning or to where the changes were initiated. There is a possibility that the board of reagents were forced to push for more out of state applicants because of Stitt’s anti-dei stuff. We have no idea. At the end of the day, applicants aren’t really owed much of anything as to behind the scenes information. Also wasn’t everyone saying like last week that some under 90 acceptances would come in jan/feb. Let’s leave some hope for people who haven’t heard. With that being said, happy holidays, congrats to everyone who has been accepted, and fingers crossed for those who haven’t. 😎

I needed this optimism today. Merry Christmas y'all! We'll all be doctors soon enough

What AAMC core competency questions did they ask you guys
Just study all of them and look up practice questions, they have different sets of questions they ask. Biggest tip is just to have a situation in mind for each competency. They’re really just looking for meaningful reflection on your experiences. Have a blueprint not a script.

For anyone who toured this past cycle in OKC, was it just applicants on the tour or did they bring family or what have you? A buddy who is applying to med schools next cycle asked me, and not sure what to tell him.

You can bring family members! There were some spouses and parents there on my group.

Today was the day last year that they started sending out all the waitlists and rejections. And hopefully some more acceptances. Who knows if they’re following that same schedule but maybe this will be the week more of us start to hear back!

We’re back on the OU emotional roller coaster aren’t we?😭

Hey guys! Kinda late but I wanted to post a small update for y'all - I received an II for OU on 12/8, and then just interviewed for OKC today (1/8). I also have a Tulsa SCM interview 1/15. Looks like I'm probably in their last batch of interviews for this cycle, and they claimed that they'll let us know their decisions by mid-Jan, but idk how true that is given everything else discussed in this chat lol. Good luck everyone!!!

Man that's such a nice decision turnaround time for the people who interviewed recently! I've been waiting since I interviewed in Aug but at least it sounds like we're just a week away now!! 🥳

I wish they’d just put an actual date on this. Tired of telling parents and others that I’ll find out in 2 weeks or 2 months or before Christmas and now by mid January. It seems inconsiderate. By now, I would assume they know which day they’re gonna put us all on the waitlist or reject us or whatever. They could just tell us.
Have been going thru exactly this same stuff and it’s made me super salty for sure.

At this point I just tell anybody who asks that I have no idea. I’m shocked that they don’t have a defined date and that mid-January is the best they could come up with. I wouldn’t be surprised if they push it back and say it’ll be mid-February instead lmao.

Thought y'all might like to know that OUHSC is remote today due to weather, so I (really) wouldn't expect anything today. Stay warm!

A friend of mine who toured recently told me that her tour guide told them decisions should be out by Jan 18, but it sounds like there's a lot of random dates floating around so I'm electing to not believe anything lol

That being said... does anyone have/know any success stories for this late of an interview lmao :,) OU is my top choice by far but I have very low hopes considering I was in their last interview batch

There are people from the first interview batch that haven't heard back yet either. Seems like everything comes down to this score, so I wouldn't worry that you were in the last interview batch.

Same here. I interviewed in September. They told us that the first couple waves of acceptances would be if your score was a 90 or above and that at the end of the day everyone with an 85 or higher would be in. Based on a couple of things, I know that the last round was for people below 90, but for people like me who interviewed earlier, we have to hope that the last round wasn't everyone down to an 85; otherwise, we are just waiting for the waitlist or R at this point. Ultimately, as others have pointed out, all the speculation and guessing won’t change the outcome. I’m just relieved that the final decision is almost here after the rollercoaster of information this cycle.
