2024-2025 Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ALSO I know DO schools struggle with clinical sites. Do you guys have any insight as to how well that usually plays out for the 3rd and 4th years at PNWU?
OMS-IV here.

Rotation sites are listed on the website, please take a look if you have specific areas you'd like to be in. Selection is going to be based on your needs and the composition of your class, every year the desirability of each site fluctuates, unfortunately it's zero-sum so not everyone will get their 1st choice, the school tries it's best to find a location that works for you. I didn't get any of my top 3 but they offered a spot that worked out perfectly for my needs.

The sites do vary in what is available, core requirements are generally fulfilled within a 50 mi radius, but depending on preceptor availability there may be outside travel required, there's a small stipend for travel beyond 50 mi. Some sites are stronger in certain specialties and much of it will depend on your assigned preceptor. You will have at least one rotation with residents, but the vast majority will be more of a mentor/mentee model with its associated perks and downsides. The upperclassmen are very happy to share our experiences.

The best part of clin ed is the guarentee that there will be rotations for 4th year and they will work with you to make sure you get what you need. Of course as DO students you'll need to do some auditions, but aside from those, the clin ed team is there to support the remaining graduation requirements. There can be a lot of travel, but the larger sites have a good variety of rotations to choose from and there's no limitation on where you complete 4th year. The region is starting to get saturated, especially in specialty care, but it's still much better compared to many other regions of the US.

If you are flexible and have a clear goal of what you want out of your clinical years, the school does its best to make it happen.

First of all congratulations!! An interview is such a big step! My interview with PNWU was actually my first interview! I felt it was my hardest interview but that could be bc it was my first one. Overall the general vibe greatly depends on who your interviewer is, but that being said all of my classmates (myself included) did feel the interview was an overwhelmingly positive experience. I went on to interview with 5 other schools and can say that though I felt this was the hardest interview it felt the most like a two way interview. I truly felt that I was interviewing the school just as much as they were interviewing me. The format is MMI much like many other schools- definitely practice MMI scenarios it will pay off!! I had 3 interviewers and they are all my professors now, all 3 of them remembered me, so the interview will definitely serve as a long lasting impression!

Also, you didn't ask for this but I'm going to tell you anyway... I wouldn't change one thing about the decision I made to go to PNWU. Med school is hard ya'll, you will hear that from everyone and you won't fully understand what that means until you are here, but what I can say is that this school wants you to be successful. Every professor is so willing to help you it is very comforting knowing that they are in your corner.

Since I'm just an OMSI I can't personally speak in depth about the rotations. I do have a base level knowledge but some of the second/third years on this page will probably be better equipped to answer these questions for you.

Hope this helps!!

This is super helpful!! Thank you so much!! I went on a tour and visited the school last week and I got SUCH good vibes. Everyone I met was super kind and excited to get to know me regardless of the fact that I wasn’t a student yet!

Hehe fingers crossed, I interview on 09/25!!

Hi, thank you for all the info! So sorry I’m first Gen so I’m not too familiar with the 4th year quite yet. What are audition rotation and why does it sound like they are more vital as a DO? Is it like a way to show interest in a residency program?

Does it seem possible that the first round of interviews might get an update today?

Based off last year and what they said at the end of the in-person interview day, there’s a solid chance decisions are sent out.

I suspect that since they’re handing out rejections the committee must’ve met like they said they would last week.

Fingers crossed!

I thought they said applicants would hear 3 weeks after the in-person interview day. Was it only 2 weeks?

Im not sure if I recall exactly, but I remember them saying within 4 weeks. Could be wrong, but Im hoping today is the day!

In regards to the status page for applicants, is there somewhere that says if you’re on committee review as seen in last years thread? I was just wondering because I just see my checklist and that everything has been received but no status. Thanks!

I got an II a while ago and they didn’t have this, just the portal updated with II and the scheduling stuff

Congrats to all of the A's!! If you have any questions about the school feel free to DM, I'm an OMSI!

Hi everyone, I have my in-person interview in October and I was wondering if anyone who has interviewed in-person can talk about the format of the interview. From what I've read it sounds like its partly a closed-file traditional interview and part MMI, is that correct? Any strategies to prepare (this is my first interview)? Thank you in advance!!!!!

Someone earlier in this thread contacted admissions and the in-person interview is a group interview where they ask each applicant questions traditional and MMI-type questions. I did my interview in-person and this is what my experience ended up being like. I don't know if I can comment on it being closed or open file, but they did not ask specific questions about any individual's application.

Has anyone just had radio silence from this school? I completed my app and got the confirmation email mid July and haven't heard anything from them, not even an email regarding an information session. I sent there admissions office an email but I feel like this is odd. I have checkmarks on everything on the application checklist.

Did anyone else have a very positive interview experience with PNWU? I’m still sitting around thinking about it (absolutely loved the vibes there).

I did too! I plan on attending PNWU. The faculty, staff, and students were really nice when I was there in-person and it truly felt like students were supported

For real! I’m OOS (non PNW) and have ties to the region and I was very positively surprised. Makes my decision harder if I get in!!

I'm interviewing tomorrow, but I just realized that I don't know what timezone my timeslot was scheduled for lol. I picked a 12:45 slot, so I presume that was EST (my timezone). Does anyone know if their virtual times are listed as PST? I can't believe I just realized this last minute rip.

So I live in PST and when I went to schedule the interview it showed as PST. What I would do is go into your interview portal and pretend like you're signing up for a date and it should show the time zone on the page before you confirm the interview. This is what I am relying on also lol. I wish it showed the time zone in the confirmation email though lol.

Ok so I did exactly what you did and saw it list (PST), so I presume it's PST. I sent an email out to confirm, but yay at least more time to prep loll. Thank you for the help!
