OMS-IV here.ALSO I know DO schools struggle with clinical sites. Do you guys have any insight as to how well that usually plays out for the 3rd and 4th years at PNWU?
Rotation sites are listed on the website, please take a look if you have specific areas you'd like to be in. Selection is going to be based on your needs and the composition of your class, every year the desirability of each site fluctuates, unfortunately it's zero-sum so not everyone will get their 1st choice, the school tries it's best to find a location that works for you. I didn't get any of my top 3 but they offered a spot that worked out perfectly for my needs.
The sites do vary in what is available, core requirements are generally fulfilled within a 50 mi radius, but depending on preceptor availability there may be outside travel required, there's a small stipend for travel beyond 50 mi. Some sites are stronger in certain specialties and much of it will depend on your assigned preceptor. You will have at least one rotation with residents, but the vast majority will be more of a mentor/mentee model with its associated perks and downsides. The upperclassmen are very happy to share our experiences.
The best part of clin ed is the guarentee that there will be rotations for 4th year and they will work with you to make sure you get what you need. Of course as DO students you'll need to do some auditions, but aside from those, the clin ed team is there to support the remaining graduation requirements. There can be a lot of travel, but the larger sites have a good variety of rotations to choose from and there's no limitation on where you complete 4th year. The region is starting to get saturated, especially in specialty care, but it's still much better compared to many other regions of the US.
If you are flexible and have a clear goal of what you want out of your clinical years, the school does its best to make it happen.
