2024-2025 Stanford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does anyone know what the conversion rate for Stanford interviews are? the interviewed to matriculated ratio on MSAR is misleading since some students may get accepted, but decide to attend another school.

I would really appreciate any input. I received an II but don't want to get my hopes up. its a bitter sweet feeling imagining attending the school, only to have the rug pulled from under u lol

for those of you who submitted post-II updates, how "significant" were those updates? would love to hear examples of what y'all included to see if mine are important enough lol

Anyone have an idea how the cycle is goin compared to last year? Looks like there have been fewer waves / it was more active last year. Also, the rejections came out less sporadically last year.

In my opinion, certain elite schools are starting to modify their process so that there is less of an advantage to applying early. Please note this should be interpreted as closer to “there is no advantage to applying at any given time.” I think they are waiting until all submissions are in before making major moves. Again, this is largely conjecture and could draw the ire of some mods but yeah.

Notably, with Stanford they have rejected people already that submitted secondary 10/15 but with very high stats. That does not happen if they are going through everything purely in order. Unless the screening that they use is based off of research hours (or any category) on primary, for example.

Point being a lot of the advantage of applying early comes from them going largely in order and there theoretically being less interview spots to obtain. I believe interview spots are being held open longer. My two cents based on patterns.

Great analysis!

ur not far off in what a director of admissions at a t10 said in a recent interview day. he said there's LOADS of (silent) II holds rn because schools are activley waiting for secondary portals to officially close before they send them out to make some last comparisons. He did say though, applying early makes them a little more likely to send an ii as opposed to applying later

Yeah. It makes solid sense to me, given that their primary competition does not tell anyone anything until March and also have interviews running through Feb.

Any reaction love for my first post is appreciated lol

Can you provide some more evidence for this? Other than the second par with Stanford?

Mods do not like other schools being discussed on school specific threads. But Yale’s admissions officer said multiple times that they have analyzed their process and that there is no statistical advantage to when you apply there. They also said they cant speak for other schools. Personally, I think it makes sense because these elite places are in no rush to fill up a class imo. 96 students for stanford is wildly low for 11k applicants. Why rush?

I agree with what nukungfukenny wrote and the “t10” he cites is prob yale

PSTP R on 11/20, app was complete on 8/6.

Bummer, had a couple of super cool pubs on the way that I was planning on including in a killer letter. Oh well, it was cool to have even made it so far in this cycle. Good luck to everyone else currently preparing to interview or waiting to hear back! 👍😉👍

does getting rejected PSTP still mean a person is in the running for regular MD?
I don't think so, the first sentence of the rejection email I got was pretty definitive: "We have reviewed your application to Stanford Medicine and are informing you that your application has not been selected for further consideration..." 🤣

Hope this helps!

I saw that on last years SDN students got a lunch voucher for interview day?? are they doing that again this year?.

Also for those that interviewed so far, were the staff warm and engaging or was it interrogation style with a side of water boarding

Does anyone know if the interview is closed or open file? Also, if there are any acting/role-play or team stations in the MMI? Thanks so much!!

Yes! They gave a free doordash voucher ($25) which was super nice!

So if we have not heard anything back by now is that good or bad

can SDN demons shed light into how stanford acceptances work? it says they interview from Aug-Jan, then offers are sent Jan-March. If someone interviews in sept, are they ranked higher than someone that interviews late??

Do the admissions staff put a number next to your name and rank you XD bc im guessing they will send out acceptances in waves

Did people submit a post-interview application update in writing or is the brief update given during interviews sufficient?
I was wondering about this as well, so I emailed them on Friday to ask if what I relayed to my interviewer verbally was sufficient, but I've yet to hear back. I interviewed 12/4 and they said we had about a week to get those updates submitted before it's too late so if we want to get those in, today is probably just about the last day to do so 😅

during the interview, we were told that decisions would come out mid January. On MSAR, it says decisions are released Jan 17th.

does it matter when one interviews (earlier interviewees hear sooner)? or do they rank applicants regardless of interview date and mass release decisions on the 17th. Are they a school that does waves of decisions instead?

Looking at last year's thread, it seems like people heard back on a weekly basis starting late Jan, and decisions were released regardless of the interview date.

one step closer to living the dream (mom dropping me off at school on her way to work)
