Season 6 What GIF by The Office
they did it midway through the app cycle last year. went from 186 to 120 without telling anyone except people who were accepted. I think it was rumored that only people who interviewed and were waitlisted in spring got in but could be different this cycle

Sort of goes to show that many medical schools care more about their ranking/reputation as a selective school than actually addressing the physician shortage in this country 🤦

So I messed up and sent all 6 of my letters to this school (I sent all 6 of mine to every school I applied to 😐).

How big of a deal is this??? Their MSAR pretty explicitly states not to send more than 3, I'm worried this will remove me from contention.

I think it's worth pointing out a large portion of the physician shortage comes from a lack of federal funding to create more residency positions. there may be a multitude of reasons that USC pulled back on its class size but the solution doesn't end with increased class sizes if the students have nowhere to train

The 2021 consolidated appropriations act threw more money at creating more residency programs. The shortage is mostly of specialty residencies spots in populated highly desirable areas. Many primary care residencies each year are not completely filled. Due to higher private insurance reimbursement rates, most new residency programs are generally prioritized in specialty fields and in large urban areas. This leaves large areas of the country with limited access to primary healthcare. The problem is simply more complicated than there not being enough residency spots.

But yeah, USC reducing it classes probably isn’t making the problem any better. Though I’m not sure how many USC graduates are going into primary care anyway.

Yay congrats guys! I wonder if they're sending them out in batches bc only 2 reported here on SDN so far seems kind of low? Probably just wishful thinking though.

Are you referring to last year's CycleTrack data where they sent them in very large isolated waves like NYU? I imagine because of the reduced class size they've changed their approach, but I could be wrong!

No haha I was referring to my delulu wish that they're sending them out at different times today so all hope isn't lost yet 🤣

II on 9/23. Submitted secondary 7/24 (day it came out) and marked complete 8/2. I'm in undergrad at USC, so, yay! Does anyone know how LONG these are? It said on the form but I scheduled it so fast that I missed the information. I am supposed to be on a plane at 4pm... need to know if I should change the flight.

Do/did you guys go here for undergrad? From my n = 3 seems like they're selecting a decent amount of USC undergrad students to interview

It wouldn't surprise me if they favor their undergrads for med school. I have quite a few friends who went to USC for ug and all of their parents also went for ug. Family friend's dad went for ug and med school, both his sons went for ug and one of them is now at Keck.

This is not a dig at USC by any means! I think its just a school that particularly values their alums more than others!

Got a weird email about licensure in Cali??? I’m so confused. Didn’t mention anything about an interview or rejection, so I guess I’m still being reviewed. Any one else??

OOS by the way

Same was very confused lol

no i did not receive anything like that. can you post the text of the email??
It says:

I got this in the previous cycle- I don’t think it really means anything, cause I caught the R a few months later.

Just received this today after getting an II, so I don't think it means anything at all. Just info that none of us care about LOL

Got the federal regulation disclosures confirming that I meet requirements bc I'm a resident of CA, lol. I never got this last cycle, which is strange.

It somehow means nothing, and everything

Scheduled a late Oct interview yesterday but no interview schedule confirmation email yet. Not sure if Keck does this. Anyone can confirm?

AMCAS Liaison has like a week delay. But double check to ensure it is scheduled on the portal.

Does anyone know what the Keck interview is like/have any general tips for prep?
