+1 IS federal regulations jumpscare
+1 10/9

In the email it mentions I'm an OOS applicant based on their records when I'm actually IS.....

FWIW I've received secondaries from UCSF, UCI, UCR, UCD. I'll need to confirm with them whether they're considering me as an IS applicant. Or does it really matter?

Double check what state residency and permanent address you put on your primary.

Mine said I was from CA.
On my primary I put CA as my legal and preferred residency.

However, I put my permanent residency as another state because I moved to CA for undergrad and have been living here 2 years since graduating. My parents still live in the other state.

Check with each school, but you will probably be evaluated as IS from whichever state you put as your permanent residency. This happened to me in my previous cycle -- my address was in CA but my permanent residency was IL as my parents lived there. I was determined as OOS for all CA schools at that time.

For tuition purposes you will likely be able to qualify as in state since you've been living here independently for two years.

This is really helpful -- thank you so much!

what did you indicate for your permanent address and your state residency on your primary application? this is how they determine residency for application purposes

if you scroll up someone else had the same problem

i put my parents' OOS address for permanent but listed my CA address as residency

If I were you, I would get in contact with the ADCOM to alert them to the fact that you live in California full-time (if that's the case). Whatever address you list as primary/permanent is what shows up on AMCAS.

during my first application cycle, i put my parent's OOS address as my permanent address. many schools consider the permanent address to be the "in state" address for application purposes. you will probably be able to qualify for IS for tuition purposes, but would need to talk to individual schools to determine that.

I'm in the same exact spot as you ahaha (california ug, and have been living here for 1.3 yrs since graduating). I'm just rolling with it without contacting ADCOM. Given that I got secondaries from most of the UCs I'm guessing they're all considering me IS, especially given my gap year activities (work, volunteer opps, etc.). Let me know how it goes for you!

i also got most of the UC secondaries (rip davis) so i’m not too worried! hopefully i can clear it up with keck tho

+1 Federal Regulations lol

... does this at least mean they're currently reviewing our apps?

Called admissions and they said "because we're private we don't factor residency, its just an automated email based on permanent address listed." However, now I freaked out because UC schools may be viewing me as out of state, which I am not and my primary app even says CA resident. Just asked the UC schools I applied this cycle, to verify that I am an in state applicant...

Well obviously it's too late now, but my email has this blocking thing where emails sometimes come 5-10 mins later than when other people receive them bc it's a regulated school email, lol. But also because I'm just wondering what times they come in because this is my dream school.
