Did that email make anyone’s heart race?

No. I already knew the AMCAS Liaison portal has a week delay from previous schools. I got the pattern recognition part down at least.

No lol I was submitted first day with the photo and got the complete email 8/2. I don’t think the photo did anything to delay your app

Some people did bullet points. I just listed three things and gave a short description as to why.

Three things I do not like are X, Y, and Z. I am not interested in X and Y because REASON. Similarly, I am not interested in Z because REASON.

I used this general format.

Unless you have some miscellaneous information apart from common essays, don't include it. They apparently hate using it as "why us", "diversity", etc. Best to leave it blank.

Not sure on the diversity part, but I know that LizzyM said we should avoid using extra information prompts as a “Why Us” unless we’re telling the school a lot more about us that they don’t already know!

My take is, if they hate it so much, they can simply take out the section or redefine what information can and can’t go in there. It’s totally unreasonable to get mad at ppl for using this section.

It was Dean Arias who said she doesn’t like the section being used as a “why us” essay. A few years back she scrubbed the entire secondary and made it the way it is now, which tbh I like a lot. She knows why people apply to USC, but if you have some other circumstances you’d like to talk about then this could be the spot. However, this is a case where poor writing could hurt your app.

Yes they have an in-state bias. I think they get a lot of funding for accepting Californians.
