2024-2025 UTMB (Sealy)

Lots of students live at Villas on the Strand and Oleanders. Cove is brand new as the person above said. I would recommend waiting until after match. People will start talking y a lot about housing and older students will begin posting who has open rooms in their house. Many ppl live in houses close to campus

Assuming will be easy enough to find a roommate as well if renting a whole house? Wondering how everybody else in prior years did it…and if it’s cheaper/better to go house vs apt.

Renting a house is a good option in the area too especially if you have a big dog/ need a yard

IMO finding roommates at UTMB is pretty easy. Tons of people in my class live together. Our class made a roommate spreadsheet after match and people found roommates that were looking for similar budget/ options and then looked for houses together. You can find local realtors to help you. Also, upper year students will post in the class GroupMe if their houses are going up for rent/if they have an open room. There are plenty of groups who have 3 to 4 people renting a house together. I like living in a house, but there are plenty of people who live in apartments in Galveston and enjoy that lifestyle as well. Cost wise, if you’re going to live by yourself, it’s going to be more expensive. You also have to consider many of the houses here are historic, and not energy, efficient, so utilities reflect that sometimes.

Also, I wouldn’t recommend rushing into anything. There will be plenty of options for whatever you’re looking for- apartments houses on island off island. They will talk about housing options at Spring Peak as well, which is usually mid March/early April.

Ok, thanks. Very helpful!

I assume "Spring Peak" is when they invite admitted students to tour, Q&A, etc. If so, also good to know.

Wasn't really planning on making any decisions this weekend; just wanted to come and check things out for myself since I'm not too familiar with the Galveston area.

Yes you are correct. And yes, it’s a beautiful weekend here! I highly recommend coming down. Galveston will also be having a huge Mardi Gras celebration over the Feb [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] weekend

Matched! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Welcome everyone!!! Such an exciting day.

For those that haven’t heard, don’t lose all hope. Fingers crossed for waitlist.

Wait listed as well. What can i do to move off waitlist. Or it’s all luck.

I won’t post the link here since it is a public forum, but your Group me link has been posted on your Facebook page

We have a school-wide Discord as well that’s posted 🙂 (Discord has always been my preference but I guess younger students prefer GroupMe?) Either way, check out the links and ask us upperclassmen questions!

I have a friend who is a MS2 who sent a letter with an update & expressing interest who came off the waitlist a couple of days later.

Yes they do. It’s over the summer in May- June ish. And to my knowledge they can randomly test at any point in the program. If you have a medical reason/ exemption, you should talk with admissions and discuss your situation w them. I have heard of admissions offers being rescinded because of failure to pass the drug screen so keep that in mind. (There’s one that got booted from my class for this). Medical school and working with patients is a privilege and it requires a degree of professionalism.

Quick question, but does anyone know when the MD/PhD results come out? I am OOS A for the med school and am unsure if that means if I am MD only or still under consideration for MD/PhD. The offer letter is unclear and I found conflicting info online. Wanted to be sure before I sent an email asking.

On the Physician Scientist forum I only saw one person share a UTMB acceptance from January.
I think it would be appropriate to send a continued interest/update email to the MD/PhD committee and see where you stand
