I'm from out of the region OOS with a LM of about 70 and I felt my mission was well aligned

I wonder if they are going in chronological order or circling back to earlier applications? Was pretty vague in the info session. Anyone have a sense yet?

Anyone applying OOS from CA? I don’t know if I should apply/even have a chance. My stats aren’t competitive so I reached out to AWSOM and they said “hope to have Arkansas well represented in our class but will accept OOS students”

How did you reach out to them? I sent them an email but haven’t received a response yet.

This school looks really promising, and free tuition w/ low cost of living is huge, but if people get an A here and also at an already established school, will they really go this route ya think? I bet there could be some big WL movement here down the road. Thoughts?

I don’t think anyone can answer these questions as this school is brand new and hasn’t even matriculated its first class yet

Not sure if it helps, but I got an II OOS (not CA), no ties to the area and not within the region. LM is mid 70s

I hear ya, but at some point in the coming year, there will be people faced with this hypothetical scenario I posed and I am curious what other people's guts say.

i think they're trying to combat this with the full tuition -- that can be a big draw to some people

I've seen mixed information out there regarding the preference given to Arkansas natives vs. applicants from Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. My assumption based on what I've read is that primary consideration is given to Arkansas, then a secondary consideration to KS, MO, and OK. Does this seem correct?

It's weird because they mentioned AR explicitly in the webinar I went to, but said their "preferred region" was KS, MO, and OK and then "secondary consideration" or like "also preferred" is any other state touching AR

Ooh okay, you have a much higher LM than I do. Idk I think they’re really looking for students who match their mission.

The way I understood it is that it is a ranking of preference that goes:

1) AR residents
2) regional residents/ states that touch AR
3) any other states

US Map for your geography refresher...
Tennessee and Mississippi also border Arkansas and so does Texas but since TX has so many med schools they might not be a marketing focus for the school

Is it worth applying here as a CA ORM?
if you can afford it and are okay with their 'strong in-state' preference, i don't see why you shouldn't toss your hat into the ring.

I'm OOS and not regional and I just applied. If i get in, great. If i don't, that's fine.

Would it be worth applying here just for the chance of being able to negotiate a higher scholarship package at another school I've already been accepted too? Obviously I'd have to get accepted here, but its a risk or gamble I've been thinking about recently with this school
If the only reason you want to apply here is the get a better offer somewhere else, I don’t think it’s worth it. Save the interview slot for a person that actually wants to go here

"AWSOM is arguably the best name ever."
Indeed! But now my older knucklehead sister and brothers who are doctors tease that it’s Walmart Medical School (Alice Walton… Walmart)"
I’d be the butt of jokes but I want the free tuition!

for those who got secondaries, how quick was the turnaround time from submitting primaries to receiving secondaries?

Did anyone interview last Friday and can speak to the style of interviews?

EDIT: Removed the question about traditional vs MMI because I only have two interviewers (interviewing me individually) so I assume its not MMI

Am I the only one who thinks it is stupid that ORM/URM is something admissions seriously considers.
It's technically illegal after SFFA vs. Harvard, but administrators can justify prioritizing URM by using other factors as a legal loophole. For example, they can just lie and say that they don't like your interpersonal skills or come up with any other excuse to ensure that URM are accepted at the rates that they want.

How long did it take for you to receive the ii from the time you submitted the secondary?

are they usually quick to respond to emails? Its been almost a week and they haven't gotten back to me....

Do I realistically got a shot at getting an ii from this school? OOS, 4.0 GPA, but 508 mcat (129/124/129/126)? I do have ties tho the state however.
