Under "checklist" I am seeing this message: Waiting on Materials (LORs, CASPer Score or Additional MCAT Scores). I literally had LORs in super early, CASPER completed a long time ago so I think its slow processing
I submitted the secondary on 5/29 so hopefully by Monday there should be some update
 
Can someone point me in the direction of the community service initiatives they offer? I'm having trouble finding it through their webpage

I'm just gonna go to the schools normal community service website if I can't find it on their MD school specific website

I submitted 6/29 too. I’m confused if this is an error or not

i have the same thing was wondering if this was happening to other people too idk what to do about it, since i also know my committee letter was submitted

Just got an email saying that my app is now complete. Funny how the schools get to know our Casper score before we do.

Also have this question. Is this typical for all schools? If so, does the answer to this question apply to others with the same reviewing process? Redundancy, or copied/pasted text from the primary, has to be frowned upon at some point, right?

I think what they mean is they have a more unbiased review of your application because they do not have preconceived notions from your primary activities, scores, and writing. I would not copy and paste anything from your primary. Just treat this as any other secondary and maybe just go into slightly more detail about what the activities and your roles are. For example, if you were an MA at X dermatology clinic. You couldn't assume they knew that already from your primary by just saying "My time at X dermatology clinic taught me..." you would have to say like " While working as an MA at ...". I really dont think this secondary should be treated different than any others.

I think this just has to do with bias. Don't copy anything from your primary. Your secondary is meant to give examples of what you have done and what you learned, so obviously there will be some similarities to your primary. However, I know most applicants don't talk in depth about things like diversity, social determinants of health, and failure in there applications. Those are some of the things secondaries ask and would not be included in your primary.
 
Obviously take all I say with a grain of salt, but think of it as the reviewers are just given your secondary and your name. They could not know a single thing about you and just review your answers holistically before then looking at your primary application. Essentially a secondary and a name is what they know about u.

I submitted 6/29 and I am also under review but it took like maybe a week to be marked complete. My CASPer was first week in May. Submitted 6/29 and under review/complete 7/11. Yours make take a bit due to the later CASPer

Thanks for the heads up, I think you're right. While its annoying, its my fault for taking a July casper lol. WFU is the only CASPer requiring school not reviewing my application yet- I guess the others review without it and utilize it if it comes back Q1 or something, lol.

I think I did something wrong when logging into the secondary portal for Wake Forest...because whenever I click the link to access the secondary application, it shows me this error screen and there's literally nowhere else to go. I emailed admissions but wanted to ask if anyone here has suggestions because the admin office won't get back to me till Monday ugh

On your secondary invitation email, there's a link under bullet point #1 that says "Link to WFUSM secondary" which you use to make your account. Under bullet point #3 there's a link that says "Portal Link" which you use to access it in the future.

Thanks for letting me know, yeah, I clicked the "Link to WFUSM Secondary" and the error message I attached previously keeps popping up. And when I click the "Portal Link" it doesn't let me access the WFUSM Secondary because I apparently "haven't started it"

Oh, got it! Sorry, I thought you had already started it. I got that error page when I had already started it and tried clicking on that first link again.

Ah makes sense. Yeah...I can't seem to get it to work. I'll wait till I hear from admissions :,( so sad, my secondary essays are all ready to go

I talked about what I learned from volunteering with and shadowing physicians who serve underserved populations. Anything that answers the question.
 
For those who have submitted already, what's the deal with providing updates? They said I can give them by uploading up to 6 files. Let's say I did some additional shadowing during the summer, how would I upload that in a file?

I'm thinking it could be a docx/pdf/txt with a short description of the activity and what I learned, mimicking work/activities from AMCAS, but I'm not sure.
 
Many schools accept a substantial update letter, in letter format. Typically this would look like a new job, new research pubs, new significant volunteer experiences, etc. I personally would hesitate to update them solely on shadowing hours.

I updated with information about my gap year job (which I did not include in my work/activities because I’d just started the week before)!
 
For the non-academic obstacle essay, could I write about really scary personal health news that happened while studying for the MCAT and how I overcame the news and continued to stay on schedule for my MCAT studying? Or is that too academic- bc in my opinion, the obstacle itself is not academic

Personally feels like the obstacle is still academic. I would try a different topic. Or, focus on the health news, but through a different lens of how it impacted you outside of the MCAT.
