Hi team. I read that the final accreditation decision for California Northstate University will be decided when the LCME team reconvenes in June 2025 (link). Does anyone have any updates on this? I am finalizing my school list after speaking with many students, some of whom attend CNU, and I have decided to apply to CNU if it is fully accredited.

Appreciate you. I also just got a message from a friend with a screenshot of the LCME email. Could you update us if the school announces the decision sooner?

+1 IS. question: is there any point in submitting here if I don't have "2 letters from a Science professor teaching the BCPM course or a committee packet (2 letters from this category or a committee packet is Required)." or would it be a waste of money?

+1 IS Secondary

5. (Required) If your education has not been continuous since high school, please explain why. Examples of discontinuities include time taken off while obtaining your undergraduate degree, in addition to gap years. (250 words maximum)

Do gap years after college count for this question? Or do they just want to know about gap years after high school?

They absolutely count. It is referencing any gap in your education. In my case, I am a non-traditional applicant that entered healthcare administration immediately after undergrad and am now returning to medicine, so I am writing about that.

3. Did you have a Pre-Health Advisor at your undergraduate institution? If so, please tell us about your experience. How did it help you in your journey to apply to medical school? If not, please let us know how you worked independently to find out more about applying to medical school and the path of your journey to apply? (1785 characters maximum)*

8. How do you feel about standardized tests? How did you prepare for the MCAT? What tools or preparatory courses/material did you use, and how did you study? Do you feel like your score reflects how you will perform in medical school? From what you have learned, do you think it will help you in the way you will study or prepare for USMLE exams? (1000 characters)

Hi, I was wondering what the expectations were with these prompts. Especially with prompt 3, I found it hard to write more than 100 words, as there was nothing interesting about learning how to apply (mostly through online resources). I read the questions as ones that require matter-of-fact answers, but am asking for any other insight?

Thank you!

Just wanted to add that I am a current student. I only had one letter from BCMP prof

Are there any current Northstate students who can chime in on the interview process? Format/Time and unique questions? There hasn't really been much available online. Thank you! Does Northstate also have a typically high post II A rate?

what is the general consensus about this school now? are they considered 'bad' by med school standards still?

My sibling goes here. They got their accreditation which is good. They have strong preclinical years, but their rotations still aren’t the best. OB rotation most students had to fly to LA. The school has been trying to open its own hospital since it’s inception, they have said that they’re close, but we’re not really sure how true that is. But overall, they match pretty well. Only downside is still no fed loan allowed.

Two of their key preclinical faculty have recently departed, so how "strong" it will be in the future remains to be seen.

As for the hospital, I would not hold my breath.......

This is a quick PSA - CNU is not Harvard but the school has come a very long way and this person literally only activity on SDN is complaining about CNU since 2022 when things were a lot different then they are now

I would say it was kinda hard to write their why us essay since there are so few things on their school website to write about

I am assuming they sent this out to all college of medicine applicants?

can anyone who interviewed already briefly describe how it went and share about the interview/school vibes?

my first interview was a little rougher since they had some technical difficulties (which I hope won’t be held against me lol) but my second was fantastic! They were super nice and you could tell they were very proud of the work they had put in to reach the state they are at today. It seems like great vibes all around.

ooo thank you so much for sharing!! manifesting the best for you and a cold pillow at night

for those who have interviewed, for the format is it 1 MMI question and then tradition or 2 MMIs before traditional section?

For each interview they start with an MMI question and then once you answer that they swap to a traditional 👍
thank you sm! sorry, more questions: for the MMI, do they allow us to take notes? and how much time did they give to think?
