That's awesome that we all got such good news today!! Are you guys strongly considering this school? This was my first interview and first acceptance, it is also in my top 5 schools that I wanna go to so I'm pretty stoked 😀.

Hopefully we all continue getting good news!!!

You and I are in the same boat- first interview and first acceptance! I'm strongly considering this school- I mean, it would be great to have more than one option, but I would also love to go to AZCOM!

Seems like yesterday was a great day for a lot of us- how exciting!! Congratulations to everyone!

Hi guys...I interviewed Nov. 10 and called today to find out about my ACCEPTANCE!! Just waiting for that email/letter to make it official! Did anyone already interview at SOMA in Mesa and what did you think? I have an interview there Friday and did not know if I'd be better off at AZCOM and should not go through hassle of driving to PHX and missing work, etc...

Congrats! I just cancelled my interview there, because I know that I wouldn't choose soma over azcom. It's up to u whether or not u feel it is worth it to interview there.

For those of you who called in for a status check and were accepted - did your online statuses change yet?

Congrats! Mine has not changed yet either...

Anyone want to switch interview dates with me. Im scheduled for feb.24🙂

Alright, maybe someone can give me some input, but I'm having trouble coming to terms with AZCOM's tuition being so much higher than many other schools.

It was the 3rd school I had interviewed at and it leaves a bad impression when the "information" folder was super cheap (falling apart in my case), and the folder contained nothing except cheap black and white copies and information about Glendale, AZ.

Also, I've heard rumors that a lot of the tuition money is being spent on building the other, new programs. Why not spend it on programs that give back to the DO students? A good laptop would be nice or perhaps more spots at better clinic rotation sites?

Also, on the tour, they mentioned that there would be 6-7 students per cadaver. Really?! For the sake of learning, I hope that they're not all there at the same time!

Anywho, the campus was nice and new, but I'm having trouble warranting spending so much money on a school when one of the best aspects is the weather.

Can some current students give me their opinions about what the high tuition is spent on and whether or not you think the high tuition is worth it.

Any new interview invite from AZCOM or the other Midwestern school? I have been complete since last week.

Hey guys! I called the office yesterday after my Nova interview to find out my status and I found out I was accepted! WOOHOO! My first acceptance! I was so happy! 😀

Congrats! The first acceptance always feels great.👍

Thank you! It really does. I feel like the weight of the world has been taken off my shoulders!

Feb 27th interview! Yee-Haw!!! Anyway, 7 peopple per cadaver is a huge turn off, but my friend goes there and he just rocked the USMLE's, so I have proven evidence (N=1) that it is an amazing school! I'll take that sample size any day!

Was Feb 27th your soonest date too, then? At this rate it looks like I'll probably be withdrawing before my interview, unless every other school I've interviewed at rejects me.

Just checked my status online, and I got in! If you haven't called yet to find out your status, check online. Congrats to everyone else that got in 🙂

Got accepted! My status finally changed online as well! Haven't received the formal letter yet though 😳

I'm highly considering AZCOM! Besides one of the few locations that actually felt like a campus, as opposed to some other one building schools. Smoother transition from college perhaps?

Yay...just checked my status online after noticing peoples' statuses were changing!
First acceptance..woo hoo!

hey guys. how do you check your status on the midwestern website? are you looking on the left hand side, if so I don't have a status page, just pre-accepted, post-accepted, and other. i got waitlisted and it would be great if i could check and see if my status changes online. really liked the school, hope the waitlist turns to acceptance before december 13th!!!!

Look under the post-accepted tab. When your status is updated, your matriculation agreement will come up as well as matriculation requirements. Good luck!🙂

thanks for the quick reply...that's what I thought, as soon as I'm accepted, clicking on the matriculation agreement will actually do something. good luck all!

I interviewed on Nov 4 and was accepted as well.

I only applied to AZCOM and LSU-New Orleans, which I interviewed at last week. Of course it's a state school but the tuition there is only 12k a year vs 42k a year and the facilities were far superior at LSU-NO. The campus wasn't nearly as nice as AZCOM, but the skills lab and some of the other technology labs at LSU are cutting edge.

I'm struggling with the thought of having to dish out 30K more a year for what I feel may not be as good of an overall education if I don't get in here in-state. The increased class size, facilities, affiliated hospitals for rotation spots, and some of the other things mentioned by others (not to mention the not all that impressive of a visit, other than the campus/weather being very very nice) has me a little disenchanted.

If I don't get in to LSU I wonder if I should wait or just bite the expensive bullet.... ugh!

I would wait. I am in a very similar situation except that the reputation of my state school is pretty miserable so I can't say for sure I will attend there either if accepted, but if you have doubts about shelling out $42k/yr for a sub-par choice, I would definitely consider holding off on the acceptance. Good luck.

There are a lot of ways of thinking about this... it depends on whether you think a year of your life and uncertain prospects for next year are worth waiting for.

I'm applying to my in-state MD school, but if I didn't get in there, and got an acceptance somewhere else, I would "bite the expensive bullet," as you put it. My prerogative is to finish school as quickly as I can so I don't completely miss out on my boys growing up. That's just my situation, but I think that if it were a few years ago when I was single, I'd still choose the certain acceptance.

The way I see it, you're going to end up deeply in debt either way, and whether it's $100,000 or $240,000, it's a lot of money. As long as you don't expect to drive a mercedes during your residency, you'll figure out how to make it work.

Not to be rude, but if you don't want to go there given the cost, what made you apply?

No, it's a fair question. I have been to Phoenix many times and love the city, weather, etc. I did research on the school and of course the board pass rates are excellent and the online campus tour was very nice looking so I decided to apply despite the high cost of tuition, expecting great things (maybe too great?)

It's not that I don't want to go there based strictly on cost, but honestly I was really let down by the live tour, facilities, etc on my interview day when compared with my interview at LSU. So when comparing the costs and taking my interview days in account, 42k now seems like an awful lot to shell out what what I feel may not be as complete of an educational experience.

I know its a private school, but lets put it this way, if I pay 42K for a car, I expect it to have ALOT of bells and whistles to go along with a great ride, a great look and a nice radio, etc vs car B I pay 12k for. Well when car B appears to be the one with the bells and whistles and car A while having a superior look, just doesn't have the same feel or ride to it, it's confusing!

Don't get me wrong, I still think it is a good school, but for the amount of money it will cost, I wonder if it is THAT good, now that I have visited and had another school to compare it to.

Had I received the acceptance before my other interview I probably wouldn't have thought twice...

You make a good point. If you didn't get a good vibe from the school, it may not be a fit for you, and having seen other schools first has to be a good thing.

I interviewed at AZCOM last year in April, and I was impressed. So you know where I'm coming from: I got put on the low waitlist at my state school (where my recommenders told me I was a shoe-in) and I scrambled to get other apps completed in january after I heard. It could have been the desperation I felt back then, but at the time I would have gone anywhere just so I could get started.

Reapplying has been a good process for me to go through, but it might not be for you. Good luck at LSU, I hope you get in; if not, maybe another trip to AZ might be in order so you can make your final decision.

Has anyone received a letter saying that their application was deemed to have an interview at some point and their file is going to be continually reviewed?

i have an interview here jan 28. i have already been accepted to a couple schools & i would have to put a deposit down by dec 14th.. to current azcom students or other students who have researched/visited this school... is it worth it for me to keep my interview? even though id be losing a good 2 grand deposit if i decided to go there. is this school worth it?

this post was written in 2007 and Dr. Walters is still there. I think when you read that post you need to take it with a grain of salt.

If you want to look at the original post with the comments to it, here it is

Levecchio, Walters, and Mann...the 3 profs in question as to their working status...are all still there.

Yeah the school has some issues, some of which I take a great vested interest in...as should all students...but certain people like to see the bad in everything.

And according to the data received about last year's MSII boards...we do well in passing % for boards, as well as score ABOVE the national average as well....so the whole theory about the school passing boards but everyone just barely passing is very incorrect.

Yeah, AZCOM doesn't let you take the MSII's if you don't pass a pre-exam. That's why their % is so high. I wonder what the people do who don't pass the pre-exam. AZCOM purgatory? I think I saw a band of ragged looking students living in the construction sites and mumbling about not passing the pre-exam...

Here are the match lists from 2000-2008. I don't remember seeing them in here, and they don't come up in a search. Enjoy.

Interesting...for 2008, Scott Kirby had a 'transitional' match into EM. This was also marked both DO and MD. What does that mean?

EDIT - Ok, I finally saw the part where there are two locations. Now it makes sense 🙂

I can't get an interview until the 2nd of March? Should I be worried? Hopefully with the large class size a decent number of spots will still be available.

Wow, they schedule out that far, even now?

The thing is I'm in AZCOM's SMP and they promised interviews to those who hold a certain gpa and MCAT. I wonder if that's why they pushed some back until March because the Winter quarter ends on Feb 20th.

pPKB, I am waiting to hear back from 3 schools in Dec and am planning on withdrawing if I get into any of them -- my dates aren't that much better than yours (end of Feb), but I'm surprised you can't see those dates on your invite page because I haven't RSVP'd yet.

Was Feb 27th your soonest date too, then? At this rate it looks like I'll probably be withdrawing before my interview, unless every other school I've interviewed at rejects me.

I am unfortunately in the same boat. I received my interview invite a few weeks ago, and the earliest interview I could get is late February. That was really surprising to me, as I have received interview invites at other schools for interviews within a week of notification.

I emailed the admissions office letting them know that AZCOM was one of my top choices, but that I am planning to travel out of the country from early/mid February onwards (for several weeks) and was hoping to see if I could get an earlier interview. I wrote that I have already interviewed at some schools, and was really hoping to finalize my med school decision before I departed the U.S. in February. I said that if it wasn't possible to give me an earlier interview, would they at least add me to an email notification list telling me if someone drops an earlier interview slot sometime in Nov/Dec/Jan? Since D.O. school deposits are so expensive, if I put down a deposit for a school who gives me an acceptance in Dec/Jan, then I may be more motivated to stay there - which is frustrating for me, since AZCOM is a top choice for me, as I grew up in AZ and have all my family here. I mean, I may still choose AZCOM, but that would mean me forfeiting a $2,000 deposit at other school and having to cancel my trip abroad (which I have been looking forward to all year, especially as I may not get this chance again during med school).

Instead of getting a helpful reply or trying to accommodate me, I was stunned when someone in the admissions office wrote back saying that if I wanted to drop my February interview slot, then I could be rescheduled for April or May. 😕 That was truly unhelpful and almost patronizing. (I mean, is there really a good chance of being accepted if you interview THAT late?) I called up the admissions office to see if someone else was more willing to accommodate me, but the woman I talked to said that they wouldn't add me to an email list letting me know of interview openings. The only way I could be added to the email notification list is if I drop my February interview slot entirely and just go 'standby' without scheduling anything- but that is a huge risk, as there is no guarantee that I would get an interview for several months. I don't understand why they are so rigid about not adding me to the email notification list, since it does exist. I have been checking their online scheduling every day to see of any new openings (nothing so far), but having to check daily is frustrating.

The unhelpfulness of admissions office has really given me a negative feeling towards the school (as other school admissions offices have been sooooo nice, wonderful and helpful to me). I was talking to my father about this the other day, and he told me not to let it get to me, as once I am accepted to a school, it's not like I will have to be dealing with admissions. But still, it doesn't give me a good feeling about the school. 🙁 I know other people who have graduated from the school, and thought it was a nice place - so I'm trying to stay positive. Sorry to rant - I am just really surprised that an admissions office could be so callous and uncaring with prospective students.

If anyone is planning to cancel or reschedule their Dec/Jan/early-Feb interview and could PM me to see if I could get your slot or switch with you (for my February 24th slot), I would be MOST grateful, as it would help me enormously. Thanks!! 😍

Hey there, I was just wondering if current students (or current applicants who are familiar with the school's program from their interview day experience) could say anything about the school's curriculum.

1. Is it mostly lecture based, or do you guys have any small group work, PBL / case-based study sessions?
2. Is the curriculum system-based or organ based (or neither)?
3. Also, do you have any clinical integration into the first/second year basic sciences?
4. Do you use the clinic on campus for seeing standardized patients in first/second year (or is that clinic just for you as students to receive health care for your own selves)?
5. Which hospitals in the Phoenix metropolitan area do 3rd/4th year students do their rotations at?
6. Is class attendance mandatory during the basic sciences?

Any information on the above questions would be most appreciated, thanks! 🙂

I am on that email list since I haven't scheduled my interview yet, and the only times they've notified me of further dates is when the later slots open up, which isn't helpful at all. So like you, I am stuck checking that page daily. I really hope I get in somewhere next month so I can happily withdraw from here. The admissions office hasn't been very accommodating to me at all either, and I've already wasted 30k on this school from being enrolled in their master's.

My interview is on Jan. 26. I may drop it becuase the school wants me to get a loan of $280000 after acceptance, which is way above what I can get and what I'm willing to pay. (i'm canadian)

I thinking of dropping my interview for Feb 2nd. I'm sure as ppl get acceptances into other schools and they have to pay those hefty deposits they will be dropping their interview dates, so I would keep calling them even though they might be annoyed...but its your life and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. When I drop my interview, I will post on here in case theres anyone who wants an earlier date

I just checked the online scheduling this evening and was thrilled to see a Jan 26th spot open (High Rolla, if that was you who opened up the spot, then THANKS!... although I am sorry about your loan situation. That's crazy that they would ask you to take out that much all at once, especially as you will then have interest accruing throughout the 4 years. I didn't know there were different requirements for Canadians or other non-US nationals. I hope this issue gets resolved, and/or other schools don't ask you to have to do this.)

Well, on a positive note for me, it seems I may actually get to go on my trip abroad after all now, since I don't have the scheduling conflict. I am so relieved about this.... 😎

Renny, I don't know if you already managed to snag a spot today, but if not, keep checking and you may luck out as I did. I agree with Whateva that as more people get accepted to other schools, there likely will be more interview slots opening up as people decline their AZCOM interviews. Otherwise, if the Univ. of Arizona or ATSU-Mesa are your preferred schools, I hope you get good news from them soon, and don't have to deal with this runaround anymore.

Whateva, if you do drop your Feb 2nd interview slot, please do post on this thread. I think the open slot will help others who are still trying to change their interview dates and are getting no help from the admissions office.

I just opened up a Feb 24th interview slot, so if anyone hasn't reserved a date yet and wants it,... go to your online application page and get it.

Can anyone justify AZCOM over NSU for me? Maybe post pictures?

Should AZCOM deserve my awesomeness for 41k/yr? I just received the invite and am pondering whether to withdraw or go.

Will do. I am just waiting for an official letter from CCOM in the mail.

...Now if someone wants to give up one of their interviews...maybe we can have a little exchange going on here...jk👍

Just got complete at AZCOM...come on interview....

Hey rkaz, have you received an email confirmation yet? I was able to move up to the 27th of Jan but haven't received a confirmation yet

Good luck next month!

Or maybe we'll both hear something good from UA and neither of us will have to attend the AZCOM interview at all 👍

Hey rkaz, have you received an email confirmation yet? I was able to move up to the 27th of Jan but haven't received a confirmation yet

Good luck next month!

Hey there, when you go to the online scheduler ( https://online.midwestern.edu/login/login.cgi ) and reschedule your date, you automatically get two emails from the system - one of the emails confirms your new interview date, and the second email states that your original interview date was canceled. At least when I changed my interview dates, I got these 2 emails immediately. The school does not send out a confirmation, as these are automatically generated by the online system within a minute or two of changing the date.

So if you changed your date online, then you should have already gotten the confirmation by email (if not, check your 'spam' box). If you changed your date via phone and haven't gotten anything, then contact the school to request they send you an email confirmation.

Good luck to you too. 🙂

I'm giving up my acceptance to AZCOM - hope one of you guys gets it! Good luck to everyone.

So, for you accepted folk: have you been looking into on campus housing?

I believe the official first day is tomorrow, but I could be wrong on this.

CCOM & AZCOM

I got a rejection letter from CCOM. Can I assume that I will get the rejection from AZCOM also?

No, I wouldn't assume that. I was, in fact, rejected from AZCOM post-interview but accepted to CCOM. So I think both schools are independent, at least to some degree.
