Back to Basics: Hiking the NH48 WW - Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why'd you decide to switch?
Few things that factored into my decision to switch:
  • sheltermed (if you look at her post hx in this thread) has barely participated.
  • Her one post (so far) from this morning was a mildly snarky 1-liner that offered no real substance.
  • I've lost confidence in my judgment and ability to read wolfy signs. Being suspicious of SAR this entire game and then voting for SAR yesterday and then finding out SAR is a villager helped shatter my confidence in the accuracy of my wolf-o-meter.
  • BJ voted to lynch herself yesterday. I don't know if that's a ballsy wolfy psych-out move or a lame villager "I no longer care anymore" move. I can be convinced to switch back to BJ today before 10 PM. I can also be convinced to vote for someone else who people believe to be wolfy. I just want to recalibrate my ability to hunt for wolves, since I tend to overanalyze and end up shooting the villagers in the foot with false positive wolf reads. Even in past WW games. In other words, I almost just need to do the OPPOSITE of my gut feels in order to land a wolf lynch. Like, I had no idea about snowy earlier in this game -- had I just gone with it, I would have been successful. I have no idea about sheltermed, so maybe doing the OPPOSITE of my gut will magically turn sheltermed into a wolf. Similarly, I trust WildZoo to be a villager this game, so maybe if I do the OPPOSITE of my gut, WildZoo is actually a wolf. I dunno.

Edited to Add: Going along with the opposite idea, I trust Mad Jack to be a villager this game, but there's also only a few posts of his to go off of. He's often "followed" my lynch votes. Example: I vote to lynch pickles, he also votes to lynch pickles. I voted for SAR yesterday, he ALSO votes for SAR for "maximum chaos" and created that 3-way tie with 4 votes each. SAR turned out to flip village, so maybe Mad Jack is in fact a wolf, since that is the OPPOSITE of my gut telling me that he is a villager.

So shelter just decided to post a one liner and disappear again? It's going to be crappy if we lynch her as a villager but it's very annoying that she just pops in rarely to post basically fluff.

Seems like we could convince you of a lot of things. How would you feel about voting for yourself?

Everybody is so grumpy this game. No one is grumpy in NH, people! It's the best of the New England states, although Maine is a close second.

I would offer you all some of this banana bread to balance out that salt with some sugar, but it doesn't travel through the internet very well

1. I’m not grumpy
2. I prefer Maine to NH. More ocean!

I know right? I still have a tinge of strog on my mind... and maybe some connection there with MJ. He came out in strogs defense multiple times yesterday... and strog himself even pointed out they’ve voted together.. maybe not the strongest correlation but at least something to think about. But I could get behind the consensus shelter pick if the vote is needed and everyone is convinced.

I think you should vote for who you think might be a wolf instead of just following the crowd 😉

Who is your strongest wolf read right now?

I'm against anyone voting for themselves -- that's suicidal and makes the game less fun.

If used as some advanced level psych-out strategy, that's beyond my expertise. E.g. BJ's vote for herself yesterday: Was that just a villager apathetically not caring about the game? Or is it some advanced wolf play? Either way, I don't like people voting to have themselves lynched.

I'd like to question your logic, please.

When you say "and strog even pointed out they've voted together," how does the fact that MJ voted after me make me guilty? In the hypothetical scenario where MJ is a wolf, would it not be strategic to make me look bad by appearing to follow my misguided votes for villagers every time? Because that then makes people wonder about me.

Point of order re: MJ coming to my "defense multiple times yesterday." I'm not seeing that. MJ did say something about NAI with regard to my long string of posts looking at the lynch tracker and that my style is to "overthink." He said he knows me from my posts in the Lounge, which is true.

If you have any concerns about me (and it looks like you do), please feel free to ask me direct questions about anything, and I would be happy to clarify to give you some peace of mind.

There is 🙂
Then why are you not willing to share your reasoning behind your desire to lynch BJ? I find that weird.

Edited to add: In other words, I find the lack of willingness to be transparent in matters of life-and-death (i.e. who to lynch) is a wolfy read. I think typically villagers would want to collaborate during the day and "crowdsource" their thoughts and ideas, since the collective brainstorming might lead to an "ah ha" epiphany.

Do you think I am a wolf?

Do you think I am a wolf?
No idea. As I said earlier, I've lost confidence in my ability to accurately find wolves, since my tinfoil has often just been confirmation bias and led to false positive votes. Sucks.

1. Why the unwillingness to share why you think BJ is a wolf?
2. Instead of just sharing the reason, in your latest reply to me, you dodged my question and responded with another question. Why the game playing and dodging? If you're not a wolf, you're a snake. A slippery, slippery snek.

I guess it wouldn’t necessarily make you guilty, but if you or he did happen to be a wolf it could tie you together by voting similar and the defenses. The “knowing your style of play/way of posting” could certainly be legit but could also just be a contrived excuse. I guess there’s nothing outside of those that are too specific I’m concerned with, maybe just hard to let go of an initial reaction, trying to investigate on my own and not just “follow the crowd” as one person said. Maybe I need to go back to some D1/D2 material and see if anyone else jumps out at me, as taking all that in in just a few hours there are clear subtleties that would probably be missed. But I’ll also review yours some more as well and see if my reaction is still as strong as it was. I suppose I’m also learning there is merit to suspecting the more quiet/non contributing posters as the majority seems to believe that, even though I haven’t seen that actually play out yet, as snowy seemed pretty active.

Observing the current lynch tally:
shelter (5) - am, dina, barkley, strog, sportyspice
bryndy (3) - dubz, pip, genny

I feel like I'm in better company with the shelter wagon. Dina seems friendly. Barkley's done good analysis on pickles. AM asks everyone direct questions on their reasoning, which I like. Sporty seems friendly.

Re: the people currently voting for BJ, Pip is kind of playing some opaque mind game right now, which I don't like. Dubz has been pretty chill this entire game, providing me with a link to the glossary, doing lots of work with her lynch tracker, etc. But Dubz's demeanor and personality have shifted since last night: 1) She posted about being exhausted (felt like 6 days instead of 3) and asked the wolves to kill her, and 2) She's been kind of snarky today. I dunno. genny I don't have a good read.

So though I initially voted for BJ today, I feel like I'm in better company chillin' with the people currently on the sheltermed wagon. They all seem nice, and I hope it's because they're villagers, not because they're pocketing me.

But consider this: if you switch it will be a tie :heckyeah:

I HATE TIES! I hate wearing them, and I hate them in WW.

Stop tempting me. 🙄 You and pippy are slimy af.
Snakes aren't slimy.
Maybe you're thinking of the northern slimy salamander?
