The phone e-mail thing was great and terrible. Immediate updates yes...but around the time I was expecting to receive some news my heart would skip a beat everytime my phone would make the new e-mail sound. It was maddening :laugh:
 
Verified! Woo! Now if I could just get the rest of my eLORs to submit as well. I think they're all in a pact to submit the last second so that I can have more stress in my life 😛

I submitted 9/2 for those of you who are trying to figure out when yours should be sent through

Thanks for the updates everyone! I was a little nervous that I did not submit until the end of last week, but it looks like they are moving a little faster than anticipated.

Just need to get this damn paper done so I can finish my supplementals.
 
Yay! I finally got verified as well. Submitted on 9/1. Now just gotta finish up those supplementals... I feel a lot less motivated now that my VMCAS one is done..

I told all of my eLORs to have them in by September 1st because that way I know I wouldn't have to wait. It worked out pretty well considering 2 of them waited the week before that deadline.

👍 This is how I handled it, Clover. I explained the 'priority deadline' early in the LOR request process. Thankfully, all complied and submitted by that date. I'm very grateful.
 
Just got verified!! Wheee!! (Prayed like crazy since I submitted my application on Sept. 3rd)
 
I also requested that all of my eLOR writers have it in by the Sep. 1st deadline. Unfortunately, one of them has decided to take the Oct. 2nd deadline to heart. I continue to bug him on a daily basis. 🙂

That's basically what happened to me. They all are familiar with VMCAS and knew I didn't have to have it done by Sept 1 even though that's what I wanted. Although one of my four did it early for me (thank goodness!) 🙂
 
I submitted on Sept 5th and was verified today! My application was also mailed out to my schools today...however, I am still waiting on one eLOR (two are already complete). I assume VMCAS will forward that to the schools once it is received (obviously before October 2nd)? Wish I had noticed this before 5pm and would have called VMCAS to check...

Yes, they will. I looked that up in their FAQs the other day as I had the same question 😉

My 2nd veterinary LOR is supposed to be from a vet that had severe water damage to her home yesterday and, as horrible as I feel for her, I can't help but be freaked out! Hopefully she'll be able to find the time to write good things about me 😱

Probably a good plan. My two vets still haven't submitted their eLORs yet, although one of them told me today that he's working on it. I'm half convinced the other vet won't make the deadline.

Indeed. I am in the same situation. I have a paper, presentation, and two chapters to do this week before I can really get to them. Once I get through Thursday I can really work on them.

Those essay questions really aren't that bad. There's only two of them that make you think and the rest is just talking about yourself. They only have to be 250 words or less too so don't freak too much!

All very true 🙂. I'm actually excited about the two you have to think about! The other four aren't that interesting.

BUT I'm such a slow writer and most of my stress is coming from putting it off until the last week, too bad I have four tests and two quizzes and a million other things this week. Well I suppose I should get off SDN and get to work 😳

I respectfully disagree, Clover. The NCSU supplemental took me quite a while. I find shorter essays much more difficult to write well than those with a longer character/word limit. It's tough to fit all that you want to say into a short space. You may have found NCSU's six essays to be a breeze, but I certainly didn't. They took quite a bit of investment to write well. I wouldn't underestimate them.

That being said, the personal statement trumps all supplemental essays with respect to the difficulty scale (again, in my opinion). I base this judgement on: A) Character limit B) Hitting all aspects of the stated prompt and C) Standing out as 'unique.' The VMCAS personal statement is a force to be reckoned with. Not something to be taken lightly.

I was excited to read them and I really should have done them when they were first posted but I was focused on the GRE and my personal statement. Now I have work and school, which is tiring me out.

Again, I am in your boat with being a slow writer and putting it off until the last week. I can be succinct, so the character limit is not the problem. Just trying to organize things and what not.
 
One supplemental left, and everything is officially out of my hands!

I have been systematically unsubscribing from any junk emails/ad emails I routinely receive in preparation for the next few months. I (perhaps wrongly) assume it will help my heart health, causing less anxiety every time my phone/email lets me know there is a message waiting.

I have been doing the same thing! I don't want to accidentally delete some important vet school email because it was hidden in the tons of spam I get.

I have them going to an email address that is primary used for bills and other "business" stuff. I get way too much crap in on my primary personal and school email addresses. Everyone needs 3 different email addresses 😛

Ditto! That's super smart. I always just used my school email, but I do get a lot of junk. I have an email I list if I know it's unimportant and if I want to sign up for something that will give me spam...but a business/important email address is brilliant *goes to gmail*
 
Yay! Last eLOR turned in their letter! I also received an email from Michigan saying that they received my application.. and then proceeded to ask them if they also received my GRE scores. How are you guys dealing with that? I understand that some schools show it on the supplemental app when they receive your GRE scores, but what about the ones that don't? Are you going to call/email them to confirm that they received them? I'm super paranoid.

WSU shows which part of your application packet the school has received on its supplemental application. I emailed NCSU, Mizzou, and Wisconsin to confirm receipt of my official GRE score report. Admissions offices at these schools were happy to comply. Wisconsin and NCSU will send out an official 'notification of received credentials' email to all applicants following the October 2nd VMCAS deadline. Mizzou will not. If you're concerned that your scores may not have reached your designated schools, I see no problem with contacting your institutions and asking. I did 👍

NCSU essays still took me some time to write, but because of the shorter word count I already had in mind the specific points I wanted to talk about for the ones about me. It made it easier for me to write them without spending days worth of hours on them. The two that gave me trouble were the ones that made you think because I had to try to be more concise but still make it coherent. Maybe it's because their essays were similar to ones I've already written 5 times for other applications, who knows. I do agree that the personal statement is the epitome of frustration when it comes to the essays of this process.
 
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get your eLORs submitted? I asked in the beginning of August and he agreed to do so and have had 2/3 submitted. The last one is for a professor that I TA for. I first asked for it to be submitted by 9/1. By that week, I emailed asking if he received the VMCAS email, which he did. Two weeks ago I emailed him asking if he wanted an updated resume/personal statement and he said no thank you.

How do I tell him I need it in ASAP without being a total nag? Do you all have any advice?

I used the "resend email" button on VMCAS for one of my evaluators and that did the trick. Other than that, call. And if a phone call doesn't work, go visit them in person. And bring cookies 😉
 
Wow so many in this thread. I finally got through all the chatter after 5 days. Thanks to everyone who has asked and answered questions. They were very helpful. I didnt decide try again this year until sept 2nd. Big shock for me but everything on my end is done and waiting for LORs and my friend to finish editing my PS. So excited. Good luck to all.
 
This weeks batch of Apps have been sent out... mine were in with that batch. This weekend is dedicated to studying for my Exam and working on my last of the supplemental apps 😀
 
I'm on a roll with these supplemental questions... but I hate when you are on a roll and then have to go back to work!!! bah..

Every night I bring my homework or stuff for supplementals we end up having a crazy night at work. I've put a ban on bringing those things with me since it never fails to bring multiple surgeries, seizure patients, HBC....it's bad juju for me!!
 
i took the GRE in june and reported my scores to my schools, I took it again in August to try to do better and actually did worse so I didn't select any recipient for my scores, I got an email from one school saying they are missing my test scores for the second test time that I did worse do I have to send them scores from that day? I didn't want to send the ones that i did worse on I didn't see a point in sending them

If they are asking for your scores and if it's within the time-frame thing, then you need to send your scores to the schools you are applying to. Otherwise, it could be considered withholding info/lying... :\

It's the same as applying to undergrad, all your scores have to be submitted regardless of how well you do.

I am assuming that you actually saw the second scores and know what they are and that you did worse. The GRE does have that option at the end for you to opt out of submitting your scores and having the exam graded if you feel that you did poorly, but from your post it sounds as if you actually looked at the scores and had the exam graded. If you opted out, then it as if you didn't take the exam (but you would not know what your scores were as they do not give them to you), if you actually submitted the exam and saw the score then you HAVE to send that GRE score report to all of the schools you are applying to. You can't just pick and choose what you do and don't send. Same thing with transcripts; you have to send every transcript for every school. Omitting things is a very bad idea and will get you rejected, especially since the school knows you took the exam again.
 
i did look at the scores....and now Im guessing I don't get my four free schools now to send to because its after the test day
 
I wish I had just sent them that day then...I did 5 points worse so i didn't want the schools to see that...my percentages were only at like verbal 58% and math 49% and the second test were math 41% and verbal 44% which is horrible
 
Wait, why would you have to send all scores of the GRE that you took? The schools are only interested in your best score. That's why you can select which test date to send. I already submitted my application before I retook the GRE, and had entered my scores from the first time I took it. I just retook it last week, did the exact same in one area and worse in another. My new scores aren't even posted yet, so I went ahead and sent the original scores to the schools I'm applying to.

At least when I was applying last year, some schools did not just want the best score. Some schools took the "composite" best score between exams, while others only wanted the most recent (it doesn't matter if you did worse).

Actually, when you send a GRE score report it sends all scores from tests taken within a certain time period (I think it is 5 years); I know this because I had my score report sent to myself and I took it 3 times. No, you can not pick and choose which ones to send... it is one report. Not sure, but the people at ETS will probably include that second test on your score report... possibly just the date since the scores aren't posted yet.

The bottom line is that the VMCAS requires that you post ALL tests that you have taken and the scores you received... yes, you may choose to omit information, but that is on you and is a good way to get yourself rejected should the schools find out that you weren't honest on the application form. (At least this is how it was when I was applying, rather certain this has not changed.) Granted, the school may only look at your best score... or create a composite score... but it is still required to be one the application regardless.

They actually just changed that last year, where you can pick either all your past exams or the one you just took to send to schools. A new thing. I sent my newest score to almost every school, just the one, except for Tufts who required all of them. My scores were so low from before, I didn't bother sending them to schools who didn't require it.

But did you mention all in your VMCAS? I didn't send my scores from 4 years ago to 2 schools although I mentioned all on VMCAS. My 4 free schools got all. I'm gonna call those 2 schools tomorrow and double-check if they want them or not. Hopefully not cause that'll be $50 more :banghead:
