I had the titers drawn and when the results were in dropped off the forms with my Drs. secretary to be filled out. Went over yesterday to get the results and the forms and only got the results. Secretary swears she put them in the Drs. or Nurse's box. Neither the Dr. nor the nurse received them. And then they made it like it was my fault. I should have given them directly to the Dr. or Nurse. So, "Sorry, is there any way to get another copy?" Ugh  Anyway I have called student services and they are supposed to be faxing me a copy. Hopefully I can get all this submitted by May 10. Hope no one else runs into these probs. Later.•••••hey docjoshua, when's the latest date that we should submit our immunization forms? oh, and if you need a copy of the forms, i believe mine is still blank. lemme double-check once i get home and i'll mail you a copy at your home address.

Congrats to all of the CCOM 2006 acceptances, I am a first year at CCOM now. You guys are going to love it. IF you have any questions let me know. I will tell you it is an awesome school and one of the best known. I have had nothing but great responses when people find out I go there. Well, gotta go we have 10 exams in the next two and a half weeks. THe third quarter is the most brutal. Neuro, physio, embryo, psych, OMM, etc..I am looking for a new roomate, so if you guys need a place, and you want a little help along the way, see my housing posting in the forum. Aaron Bruce MS-1

Dont worry so much about the immunizations stuff. they have a big titer draw in Sept. through the school. relax your in!! most people in the first year class are still finishing their hep series. AB

Greetings all
This is my first posting and I will be attending CCOM as well this fall (accepted last fall). I had a couple inquires as to off campus living. I've been intact with admissions counselors who mentioned they have complied a listserv for incoming med students in previous years, but no such luck this year (new software problems I guess).

Those of you who plan to live off campus, do you know where you will be living?
I was hoping to find roommates for off campus living, anyone interested (27 yr old male, clean, snowboarder)?

hey aaron, could you tell me more about your roommate situation?

Cheers,
hubble11

My opinion on housing is this: the dorms are not the best deal, especially the traditionals. THey are tiny and expensive. Most of the apartments are expensive around the school. I really like the Oak Park area because you are close to CHicago and still not far from school . I have a 15 minute drive in the morning. However, thats just me, I did the dorm thing in undergrad. I like having a garage in the winter and a shower big enough to get in. You can barely turnaround in the dorm showers. however, I wont knock it too much because I know the admissions dept watches these postings and I will get myself in trouble. I went to them to ask for help in finding a new roommate and they dont do that until they fill the dorms$$$$$$ THe reason you guys dont have an official list serve with all the new classmates is the old admissions officer got fired or something, so there is a new one starting soon who should start it. I recommended the listserve last year because TOURO had one and I decided to go to CCOM so I told the admissions dept. we should have one too. it was awesome. some of us did things together in JUNE. WOw I am procrastinating big time, big physio test tomorrow. later. AB

Hey everybody crisis averted. I got Student Services to fax me another copy. Thanks though for being willing to help me out. Talk later.

hey everyone....

i wanted to know if anyone was planning on living at home? I live like 25 min from the school and i think living at home would save me a ton of money on rent utilities food etc.... but studying at home could pose a problem.... anyone in the same boat as me or was in the same boat that would care to offer some advice?

thanks

Hey Aaron,
I was considering living in Oak Park. Is it really only 15 minutes to the school in the morning with traffic? I was told it takes a while with traffic. Also, thanks for the imunization info, i havent done anything with that yet.

P.S. What is the "listserve?"

Well, I live right off the freeway(290) on the west side of oak park. So I only have 2 traffic lights between me and school and 12 miles of freeway which if you dont do 80 mph you will be run over. SO if you live in downtown oak park add 5-10 minutes for slow traffic just to get on the freeway. But the freeway is ALWAYS moving unless there is an accident.
A listserve is a way to communicate with all your new classmates, it works like this. THe admissions dept. (if they had their stuff together this year) would send all the incoming classmen a letter with a website (msn). You would all go there and register (give your email) then you use a group email, and basically it becomes a personal forum directly to your email account. so every day you check your email and you have 20+ emails from your new classmates, because the emails go to everybody registered. WE actually made plans to hang out in JUNE, it was fun. However, for it to be effective the mailing is key. I am still looking for a roomie if you are interested. Be prepared, it is expensive as hell to live here. I am from AZ and have never spent more than $300 for rent. I was shocked, its like LA,NY OR SF. See you in August!-AB

Hey Aaron,
thanks for the info. im coming up there in two weeks to look for a place. sorry i cant help you out with the roomate situation, im married. is it true that rent is more expensive if you move in in july/august? if so ill probably get our place when i come up in two weeks. i was figuring $700-800 for a good size one bedroom? this sound about right?

I think that figure sounds right. Some of my classmates read my opinion on the dorms and so I do have to say that they are convenient. Also the parking in Oak Park proper is horrible. I am lucky and have a garage. There are plenty of apartments in the sorrounding suburbs around school. THe best thing moneywise is to hook up with some of your new classmates and get a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment or house. That would be the cheapest thing. If you guys call and bug the admissions dept. maybe they will make a mailing and start a listserve so you guys can communicate. That is how most of us hooked up with roomies. AB

I am not sure about the summer move in rates being more expensive?

Does anyone know if CCOM has a white coat ceremony? If so....when is it...? i heard it was after second year but now they've switched it to 1st year during orientation? Does anyone know the details?

Thanks

Thanks•••••Yeah, I believe we will have a white coat ceremony during our first year. Someone in a previous thread mentioned that it's done along with other programs (pharmacy, physical therapy) at the beginning of the year around orientation. Anyone currently attending CCOM know if this is true?

Here is the scoop on the white coat: Our class was the first to have the combined white coat at the beginning of the first year in the new library. Most people were not happy about this. Our class is trying to have a "real" white coat ceremony at the end of the second year with just our class. I think it is economics to the school. THey save money by combining it with the other programs. SO we will see, You guys will for sure have a white coat in September and hopefully we can change it back to a more traditional formal ceremony at the end of 2nd year with just a single class. It represents the transition from classroom to clinic so why have it in the first month. Hope that helps, in a nutshell, we are working on it.

Where can we get the listserv?

Hey, does anyone know the class schedule for next year, for example, when are the breaks between quarters, do we get thanksgiving off, etc.. Im sure we will find out in due time, but its hard to plan anything without that. Also, any LLC people there? Im kind of excited to live in a dorm again, although my undergrad dorm experience was terrible, I'm sure med students don't sell cocaine at all hours of the night like my neighbors in the dorms at Univ. of Colorado. how do these people get into college anyway?

Hey conmant,
I am looking at the schedule for this year and I am guessing that it will very much resemble the schedule that we will have. It looks as if our first quarter break coincides with a Thanksgiving Break. The break for this years class was one week. Then there is a two week break for Christmas in the middle of the second quarter. And then we get a Spring Break of a week at the end of February that is in between quarters two and three. Then the year concludes about the middle of May. Like I said this is this years schedule and will most likely not change a whole lot for us next year. I, too, am excited to 'dorm it' again. Where will you be staying? I am in one of the traditional halls. I am looking forward to having to much stuff in a very tiny room. Man, that brings back memories. Take care. Josh

Doc Josh, thanks for the info. I'm in LLC room 202, according to my housing agreement. My goal is to be able to pack everything i need for next year in my subaru, and to take nothing more. 160 square feet is tiny. But i did it before and I can do it again. I never had the chance to see the rooms during my interview, how are they? I'm looking forward to being just a few yards from classes, weightroom, the pool, etc, and no utilities payments. Do we have decent internet access? I have DSL now so that has spoiled me. anyway, im looking forward to this experience.

I am in traditional Hall A 3rd Floor. I too am looking forward to everything being so close. I too am worried about space limitations. I live in a spacious studio apartment with a lot of closet space. I would think that the internet would be fairly fast. They have their own network connection and those are usually pretty fast, somewhat comparable to DSL, at least that is what my experience is with network connections. I really don't recall how big they were. I was hoping to go and check a room out this summer so I can guage how much I need to send home. Well summer is almost here. I am llooking forward to taking it easy. Wish that I could take the summer off, but I have to work to pay the bills. Take care. Josh

HI MS-1's
My name is Veronica and I am the President of the Midwestern Sports Medicine Club. I wanted to tell you guys about something really cool that we are working on for next fall : THE 2002 FITNESS CHALLENGE.
The idea is we will have group workouts including swimming, biking, running and weight training each week. Aaron Bruce(The President of the Wilderness Club) and I will be working out the details this summer. We are hoping to get sponsors and have discounts at local stores. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you have any ideas for us.

Also, for you runners- AMWA (american medical women's association) is sending at team to the Race for the Cure in September, so get excited!

Thanks Veronica

Hey everyone,
Just got my acceptance phone call the other day..yaaay! I'm really excited and think it would be great to get this listserve thing going so we can all meet eachother before classes start. maybe we can start our own? anyone know how? anyway, congrats to everyone and hope you all have a relaxing summer!
-star

star player, congrats, isn't that the best phone call ever? I wish school started tomorrow, but I still have a summer of work ahead. All my friends and the docs I work with are telling me to quit my job and move to Tahiti, or some other tropical island for the rest of the summer. Yes, this would be nice but it is hard to pay rent and travel to Tahiti simultaneously. Anyone have any ideas for vacations that are budget friendly? Anyone doing anything exciting this summer before the next 6-10 years of intense work? Allright, look forward to meeting you guys that I've talked to on this site, take care. bye

The only way your entire class can get involved with a list serve is to send a letter to all the incomings telling them to register on a specific list serve and give their emails. I will go to the admissions dept. and ask. I would do the mailing myself but they wont give your information. I will try again this week!! Not everybody will get in on it but I think we had at least half the class talking last year. Enjoy your summer, I dont have to tell you why. I wont be checking this site too much more, but feel free to email me with questions. -Aaron

thanks gatorade :)
hey, does anyone know what the daily schedule is like? I remember it being something like MWF 8am-2pm and TR 8am-5pm...can anyone confirm this? or will our schedule be different?
i'm so excited!!

Hey everyone,
I'm coming up there this weekend to find my place for next year. anyone find a place there yet, other then the dorms? I hear Oakpark is nice, but i think it might be a bit far. getting there every week for 7:30 exams is reason enough to live close! So when is everyone moving up? I think I'll be up there around the end of July.

-jim

Congrats Starplayer. Doesn't it feel good? That was probably one of the best messages I have ever gotten.
Josh

Nothing really interesting to say here. I just wanted to send out a reply so that the CCOM thread was back towards the top of the list. Later.

JOSH

Thanks Josh, I was wondering where all the CCOM 2006 people were. Hey, does anyone know what kinds of intramural sports are offered at CCOM, and how popular they are? I haven't been able to find much info on that. I did hear during my interview that there is a heated rivalry between DO and PA students in intramural sports. Anyway, I don't really have much interesting to say either, I have the day off work today, so I'm just hanging out, relaxing, enjoying the free time before school starts. My goal is to be bored with so much free time before school starts, that I can't wait to start studying. I still have a long way to go yet....What are you guys doing for fun this summer? Im going on a cruise in July, and also doing a couple of races, but other than that, I have to work.

Hey conman,
They do have IM sports and I think they are soccer, softball, flag football, badminton, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, and water polo. I would assume too that things can get pretty competitive. I really don't have any plans for the summer. I am going to California to visit family in the middle of Aug., and basically taking most of the month of Aug. off to relax and get ready for the move to school and getting the old brain ready for info. overload. Plus I just want to relax and spend a lot of quality time with my girlfriend. She lives here in Chicago, so I will get to see her on a regular basis. Our time together will be somewhat compromised once school starts but she is completely understanding of what I will be going through. My situation with my gf is quite different from your situation. Well, enjoy relaxing and take it easy

hey everyone. just wanted to let everyone know that there are some good deals on apartments in the Downers Grove area. i came up here yesterday and got my place for next year. if anyone is looking, the "Avalon At Westgrove" apartments were very nice. they had the biggest one-bedrooms i saw, and had special deals going on now (one month free, pro-rated over the 12 months, which signifiacntly lowers your monthly rent). oh yea, it took me 12 min to get to the school from this complex. no freeway driving either.

grkbuckeye,
in terms of rent per month, what were you looking at for your one bedroom in downers grove?

kb498,
i was hoping to find something around $800 a month. everywhere i looked was around $850 a month, but no utilities included. Avalon was $830 a month, and they cover heat and gas. you pay electric and water. but they had a special going on now where they give you a month free and you can pro-rate it over the 12 months. this knocked our rent down to $760 a month. also, the apartment was 100 sq. feet bigger then any of the other one bedrooms i saw. hope this helps!

Just wondering when everyone will be moving to town. I don't think that I will be moving until August sometime in order to save money $$$. Also, is anyone that has been accepted still not sure if they are going? I am on a alternate list at a top 15 school and am in a difficult situation between cities that are far apart. Anybody know an easy way to get the apartment you want without doing it months in advance in the Chicago area?

Hey all,

I'll be moving in probably in mid-late August. Can't wait! Anyone have plans for the summer? I hope I'll be able to go to Europe. Take care.

anyone happen to know when the first quarter ends? I know this is a dumb question, but i have something im trying to plan. i know that fall quarter ends over Thanksgiving break, and that we get a week off. is it the week of thanksgiving that we get off (Mon-Fri)??

Last year, we received the entire Thanksgiving week off (Monday - Friday). That week was the end of 1st quarter.

The actual schedule should be available from the registrar in late summer.

I saw a post to the effect of the dean of CCOM leaving and noone replied to it. So I was just wondering if this were true and how everyone thinks it will affect our class, if indeed it is true?

where did you see this?

Somebody posted it on the Osteopathic forum. I don't really know anything about it. The person who posted the comment said something about hearing the MS4's were mad about graduation arrangements and then went on to say that she heard the dean had stepped down and was looking for more information. I am really not sure what to think of it. I was just posting to see if anyone else had heard anything. Don't know if it is true or not. I went to the school's website and found nothing. I would think that if the dean stepped down it would be a pretty big deal. Maybe someone can enlighten us all. JOSHUA

Well, I don't know if it is anything to get alarmed about, but it has been confirmed the the Dean at CCOM has stepped down. You can check out the reply in the 'What going on at CCOM?' thread in the Osteopathic forum. Apparently, the Dean and the CEO didn't see eye-to-eye and the CEO had plans of letting the Dean go. So, seeing this the Dean decided to leave himself. As for the graduation requirements, etc. the only problem the poster stated was a new computer system being implemented to match MS3 and MS4's to rotations and some MS3's didn't get matched at all. So just a minor computer glitch.
I do wonder, however, when they will tell all the incoming students of the Dean stepping down and who the new Dean will be. Just thought I would update everyonel.

With this new computer system, will students still be able to choose some of their roatioin sites. i know students who do rotaions at Rush, UofC, etc.... Will this still be allowed??

Hey Joshua,

Thanks for the updated info! Well I guess the CEO is just making everything perfect for our incoming year. :D

Take care...

Just bumping us up to the top again. :) :D <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />
