Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Had a somewhat rough/hard day today where nothing seemed to be going right resulting in a bad headache that I'm still battling. Then out of the blue, an upperclassmen in my frat sends me the nicest/most encouraging message at just the right time. Just when I think that no one is thinking of me, I'm surprised in a good way 🙂

Anatomy, Histology and Physiology midterms tomorrow. That should be illegal.

T-12 hrs. 🙁

Snow days were fun and cool in undergrad. Now? Not so much. So many classes to make up. So so many.

It's FRRRRRIDAY!!!! Good gosh I'm so glad this week is over. Next week is an easy week for us, then we have finals the last week of Feb. I can't wait for this block to be done and start with some new classes!!

I'm freeeeeeee!!!!!!!! For a whole week!

Sleeping in....playing WiiU.....skiing....

Then 2 weeks of a field course before I have to go back to real life again!

:hardy:

Anyone have any recommendation for an equine anatomy textbook?

That sounds awful! I agree that that should be illegal. I'm exhausted dyer writing 3 in one week, I couldn't imagine doing it all in one day.

Nothing is still going right 🙁 Getting good news just once this semester would be nice...

Anatomy final in five days…freaking out…but it's almost over so at least there's that! And a two week spring break after 🙂

Just realized today's my one year anniversary of getting accepted into vet school. Great timing, because after these past few weeks of trying to be productive while having the worst case of the winter blues, I really needed a reminder of how awesome it is to be where I am right now.

Dyce is what our professor recommended but the reviews mention there being a lot of text. I have the text/reading I need pictures. I just ordered one that is equine specific, as that is what I really wanted anyway, we'll see how good it is when it arrives.

I'm really glad that I was able to come home during our short break, but I'm beginning to think it was a really bad choice given how many exams we have coming up. I am not prepared for any of them. I'm not convinced that I can keep my head above water this semester. :help:

Oh, if you want pictures, then I'd definitely recommend Budras. I use Dyce extensively for the text and Budras for the pictures.

Ugh. So unproductive today. Not that I've been at all productive during our break but today I actually wanted to accomplish some things and I failed miserably.

I just spent nearly six and a half hours in anatomy lab. This is significantly earlier than I usually start worrying about exams, but man am I worrying. There's a lot on this exam, and I didn't do as well as I wanted in the last anatomy class...

Snow day today! I need to use this time wisely.
I have an interview tomorrow. Do you think the school will be open, or are you expecting more snow? And what are my chances of making it into Charlottetown this evening? (Is the airport open?) Thanks!

From what I'm seeing right now it's questionable if the school will be open tomorrow. We're supposed to get another 1-2 inches tonight and then 3-5 more tomorrow, but that may change as the day goes on. Really depends on how the roads are more than anything else, and unfortunately UPEI is terrible about waiting until the last minute to make a decision.

As for the airport, if you're flying Air Canada they're usually pretty good about updating flight statuses on their website. You'll probably find more information there than we can give you. As of right now I'd imagine most flights into Charlottetown are delayed/canceled as it's coming down pretty hard at the moment.

Edit: I should also add that AVC is usually pretty accommodating of the applicants when stuff like this happens, so don't stress too much if your flight is canceled and you can't get here!

Thanks so much. We are waiting to board in Philadelphia. Heading to Toronto, then Halifax, then PEI. Not sure how far we will get. Hopefully if the school is closed, they can fit me in early on Friday because I'm suppposed to fly back late that morning. Any idea what the forecast is for Friday?

13 hour days should be illegal. Especially when they start with an exam and end with me having to turn in an literature search assignment that I'm only halfway done with as of this morning.

My weather app says 30% chance of snow on Friday and "scattered snow showers." Storms usually tend to taper off faster than the app predicts though, so I'm guessing it will be clear on Friday. In fact, since writing that previous post the snow seems to have dwindled down to almost nothing here for the time being.

I will warn you that the plane from Halifax is TINY, so if the weather is bad I'd imagine that flight would get canceled quickly.

Like BD said, they are super accommodating in case you need to reschedule or come at a different time of the day. It wouldn't be the first time it happened this semester! Don't stress about it too much, coming for an interview is more than enough to worry about. You can always call the school too if you're worried.

BD is also right about the plane from Halifax...its like a puddle jumper! The weather isn't bad right now so you might be just fine. I heard Thursday night another storm could be moving in.

Good luck!!!

I agree! Although mine started with that same exam at 8am and ended at midnight on clerk duty (and struggling to read through that paper!)

ugggg, you had clerk duty last night? my class day was actually only 11 hours, I just can't do math... although I was up to 3 am finishing my zoo presentation, so I was kinda with you on that... I tried reading the paper at 3 am, but the results section kinda all looked like SBHSZRD and SADFKJSFJLKJ and a bunch of genetics nonsense so I read it this morning instead... and it still came off as a bunch of acronym induced nonsense.

On the verge of losing it. I'm just so stressed this week. We have finals next week but still have 9 hours of anatomy lab and a whole bunch of classes all while trying to study for 7 finals. And then we don't even have time off afterwards, we just jump into another block. I was accepted for a research fellowship for this summer, but I had a meeting with my mentor for it today and it was just totally unexciting and strange. I don't know, it just feels like one more thing to worry about right now.

Right there with you buddy. I have been stressed and anxious ever since our GI exam on Wed. and its not gonna go away until the friday of our last exam. Im super not happy about the anatomy lab. It pisses me off we are starting IP 4 material and it isn't flipping IP4 yet. GRRRRR 😡 . I will definitely be putting this in my evaluation of the course. Thank goodness we aren't having GI phys class next week. That's a little bit of a help.

This physio exam is just a minor break in my completely freaking out about anatomy. I really shouldn't go home this weekend, but I'm going to anyway. At least I can come back Sunday afternoon for some lab time?

The number of people coughing, sneezing, and sniffling in my classroom right now is seriously concerning... must ward off the germs :xf:

I have 7 exams next week. I thought about being productive, but then I realized margaritas sounded like a much better plan. Whatever, Fridays are my night off.

Margaritas sounds like a great plan after today... I was there until after 5pm in the anatomy lab (and I had my clinical skills practical today). SO tired but must study... wine later, though 😉

Got invited to assist with a necropsy today and ended up seeing the inside of our super secret pathology building! I thought I'd just be observing or putting stuff in formalin but the pathologist actually let me do a lot of cutting and I was even able to sample the tissues and choose which ones to send off! In other news, midterms start in a couple of weeks -- 8 exams in one week is not my idea of fun.

I'm glad Mizzou isn't the only school to pull this kind of crap. We have 7 finals this coming week... Weeks like this make me second guess my choice of school / career. But seeing Miz isn't the only only makes me feel a little better lol

This is crazy! I think we only had two exams in one week once. I can't even imagine 7 or 8! We have one exam a week, most weeks, and it makes it so much easier to only focus on one thing at a time.

We have exam hell weeks too. In other news I'll be in charge of our Hills program next year!

This coming week is busy for us too (not 7 exams busy thankfully!). I just cannot be productive today, which is frustrating me. Does that motivate me? Nope, started another movie on netflix

This.

I get this overwhelmed/stressed out feeling around exams and think, "I really, really need to study" but then I think "well, one video/movie/random game" that will calm me down and I will be ready to study after. Then that ends, stressed feeling, just one more episode, and the vicious cycle repeats over and over again.

Totally understand that feeling. Doesn't help that I am sick. Getting over it, but now it is just a nuisance.
