Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
this thread convinced me to change my SDN status. Now realizing that summer is half over ( 🙁 ), I can't help but feel extremely nervous for school to start even though I'm excited. Not looking forward to the grunt work of moving again either but what can you do.

I can't believe you guys are just getting this info! We got ours back in March...

Well, most schools won't give you a package until you decide. Believe me, I asked them all. Cornell is unusual like that. We just got ours, which was...depressing...

Since I've already paid 325.00 as a tuition deposit to save my seat, I consider myself a student. Once they start getting your tuition, you are technically a student of that school. But I won't change my SDN status until school actually starts because I know it gets people riled up.

Really? People get riled up? That's just silly.

I can't find the thread!

I know somewhere someone in the past few months posted a link to it, but my search skills aren't working. Some better at this please share again?

Whoa nelly, a couple people really needed to simmer down a few years back. In fairness, maybe they have realized in the interim how silly they were being. It's an old thread.

The way I figure it, once you accept an offer and put down a deposit, you're a vet student. Yeah, there's some weird gray area if you're johnny-on-the-spot accepting in January (unlike me, ahem) and you're still finishing classes, but eh, it's really not a big deal. If I can get a student ID for the school and make use of their discounted exam services for my pets, well, I'm a student.

Some folks just really overthink these things...

Hey all! Does anyone have recommendations for good, reasonably priced boots for large animal? Preferably waterproof/resistant. Thanks!

So nostalgic. I miss my snarky days of yore.

Who is this kindler, more patient SOV?

2008-2010 had some really awesome threads. They don't come like that no mo. Back in the day, there were so many threads where I absolutely could not close my browser at work due to suspense building, and I'd refresh during incubation periods to 😱 and :corny:.

I think WW gives us a place to vent in a more socially acceptable way now.

Haven't gotten mine. Probably next month...hopefully...

Neither have we

We don't get ours until late July ... but I'll be on vacay so I don't have to see the depressing info until I get back probably

I had told myself that I wasn't going to worry about supplies, packing, or organizing until July.

Darn, it's past midnight. Guess it's July now :/

I started vet school today! So far, it's just been a lot of introductory stuff. We start our real classes tomorrow bright and early with Immunology. I don't mind start early now, but I'm sure I'll have a completely different take on things when it's December and I've been in school nonstop for almost 6 months. Even the 2nd year students start at the end of July.

Wow, that's nuts! I've never heard of vet school starting that early, except for Ross with their rolling admission. Does this mean you get out earlier in the spring?

😱

I don't start until September 30th. 😳

August 19. Like 6 weeks. :barf:

Us too!

Aug 11-14 is orientation... Aka- summer camp at the lake of the ozarks for team building/ leadership / communication courses, then Aug 19th is our first day!

Oh my gosh that's super late! When do you guys get out in the spring?

Orientation for us is August 14-16, then we start classes on the 21st.

"Welcome week" starts August 12, but the official orientation isn't until the 16th, with classes starting the 19th.

August 29th.

I would really appreciate starting earlier though....I need to get out of my parent's house and moved into my condo. But it doesn't make sense moving there until closer to school since it's on the opposite end of the city.

We don't finish until the second week of June or so haha.

Oh! and I'm getting a full/double mattress for when I move out. Yesssss. 😀

that is so early!
Nope. Our semester runs July through mid-December. Then we start again in January and go until May. We only have two years of courses, though, before starting rotations.

We also have a get to know everyone/team building camp up on rocky top lol. We go for an overnight trip Aug 14-15, then Aug 16 is the big Tennessee Welcome where family and friends get to participate in a "hands on" lab followed by the white coat ceremony that night. Then, two more days of orientation before classes start on the 21st.

I spent all weekend and today getting moved out of the house I'd been renting, getting the majority of my stuff into a storage unit in Knoxville, then moving the rest of it to my parents house where I will be living until August. Should be interesting lol.. :scared:

We start on August 26th. The week before is all orientation week / getting supplies and stuff. We also have a team building thing too. I get to move in August 17th. The thing I'm not looking forward to though is moving out of the apartment I'm subletting on August 9th, moving most of my stuff home, and then coming back to the same town on August 17th. Oh well at least I don't have furniture to move 🙂

Could you find a storage unit nearby that may be more convenient? I don't know how much storage costs in your area, but I was surprised by how cheap it is here in the UK.

Oh lord, overnight. Thank goodness our team building stuff is only during the day. We have that and orientation on Aug 19th-20th and then classes start on the 21st! TwistedRose, I can't believe you guys have already started! 😱

This is OK State's schedule as well. I will be moving in a bit this month and completing my move first week of August. First on the docket though is a trip to Maine the 28-1st for LobsterFest. 😀

OMG, lobsterfest sounds AMAZING!!!

Our welcome week starts the fifth, I believe, with classes starting on the 12th. I'm not planning to be there until the 1st.

We start orientation the 12, classes the 19. I can't arrive until the 10th. Gonna be veeery interesting. But my family is helping me move.

I am so jealous of those of you who get to go somewhere and team-build! That sounds like a lot of fun!

Good luck TwistedRose with your classes!

possibly. That's one of the things I'm looking into now. I don't live too far away from the school though so if the unit costs more than the gas it takes to drive back and forth one way then might not be worth it.

If you are talking about the one in Rockland, I officially hate you right now 😛

Why, I believe it is. I'm going with my parents and step-cousin. Gonna be a fantastic week of seafood greatness. We are wandering around the coast just a bit too. Gonna be my last get away for who knows how long...
