Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can now say that vet school classes have been cancelled TWICE in a mere 1.5 years of study; once first year for the polar vortex at my old school, and now tomorrow because of insane icing & snow at my current school.
We had a week cancelled due to being unable to breath air in my school. Not that classes were cancelled per say, simply recorded.

I’m so torn between doing the bare minimum to pass vs doing the best I can to get decent grades.

10 more days until I’m back to my cats and cold weather
I would do the best you feel capable of in the moment, which may not be your normal best and may change depending what which exam it is. Hang in there! 🙂

Agreed with @that redhead. You should always try for the best that you feel capable of, even if that best isn't always going to be great or perfect. The last thing that you want to have happen is aim just for what you need to pass but then skirt under that bare minimum; from personal experience, dealing with the aftermath isn't fun.

This semester has been a very humbling experience for me. I still have good grades, but not to the caliber I’m used to. Classes are getting harder, and my motivation is slipping.

Somehow epi is my lowest grade. It’s really hard for me to get into the material, but I also don’t feel my exam grades have reflected how well I understand the material. Also really terrified for path. A bulk of our final will be written by two professors who write extremely hard questions. Previous semesters have told horror stories of people going in with decent grades and still failing the class because of the final. :dead:

I’m really hoping this little break is enough to get my mojo back to kick next semester‘s butt.

it’s day 3 of winter quarter and I’m already so tired.

@PetVet7 I think a lot of vet school (all of it?) is a humbling experience. Remember that just because certain classes are hard or you aren’t doing as well as usual or as well as you’d hoped doesn’t mean you’re less of a person or that you’re going to be a bad vet.

Going over a lecture from one of the surgeons (and simultaneously trying to find a way to procrastinate studying), and thought people would appreciate this saying she taught us last year for how to differentiate Kelly and Crile hemostats:
"Kelly is a good girl and doesn't go all the way"

Never ever going to mix these up in my career, this has been seared into my brain for life.

We learned that too!
Also how to remember forearm muscles... every cat lives under furniture; some destroy furniture

And crile is like a crocodile and has lots of teeth!
Learned both of those last year

Oh darn, and here I thought that prof was being her creative quirky self. Didn’t realize it was a common one!

I mean, she definitely was still being her quirky self.. she's always good for a laugh! 😀 I enjoy hearing some of these other ones too!

Jobs went out for the teaching hospital today and it looks like I didn't get one.

I have plans to talk to a few specific clinics when I am home for December break, and hopefully I can arrange something with one of them. No idea if they have space for students or anything, but we will see. It would still be a really great opportunity to work at any of the places I have in mind, so I am kinda excited to maybe doing something new that I've never done before.

Just a little disappointed because I really didn't want to leave my current city over the summer; basically my entire life and the vast majority of my close friends are here now. Not really sure what I will do all summer if I go back home.

Oh well, now back to finals studying I go.

One person actually mini screamed a bit before our last exam.
I feel that. Most of us put off studying for our last final (pharm) until the night before so everyone was freaking out.

Good luck on the rest of your finals! You always know more than you think!

My closest friend just gifted me a framed copy of an email I received from upstairs informing me that I failed the midterm for what was our easiest class this semester. She was even going to get the profs from the class to sign it but wussed out of asking them.

Be friends with people that don't stress about grades, it's easier.:laugh::laugh:

(Also I hate that class and flat out just didn't study for it so it's been on ongoing joke all year since I absolutely did deserve the grade I got lol)

Ah when school says here you dont have to start them now but the course is open. Merry Christmas to all the 2022 WIMU students from the USDA [emoji23]

I complain but secretly dont mind-one less thing to do during the semester and actual classes.View attachment 290407
Crap I forgot I have to do USDA modules 😡

I did 80% of my modules a week before they were due

I spent the day hanging out in an emerg/specialty clinic back home. Some of the staff asked me questions during the day, and I actually was able to answer them! 😱 It really made me sit back and realize how much we have learned since 1st year.
These obviously weren't patient-specific questions. It was things like the zoonotic potential of Giardia and the pathogenesis of saddle thromboembolism.

On another note, it appears that I have my summer job figured out. Turns out a bunch of the staff there know me (I've worked with a few of them, and the others knew me from my time shadowing a few mobile practitioners) and said nice things to the hiring manager when I mentioned I was going to try and solicit a job. Nothing is official yet, but I've been told that they will most likely be able to make a job happen for me. 🙂

We were given the option to start these over the summer and I still didn't finish them until a couple days before they were due because my life is a disaster.

We had an extremely sick, flat, icteric kitty come into emergency when I was working today. The owner elected to euthanize but didn't want to be there for it. When we were alone, I asked the clinician, "What can I help with?", meaning to ask where she wanted the cat moved to, which equipment she wanted unhooked, etc.

She misinterpreted my question and instead said, "Give him lots of pets and make him feel loved. Talk to him and just let him know how loved he is."

I think these are the most important instructions I will ever receive in my veterinary career.

I think she knew exactly what you were asking and told you to do the most important thing.

We learned the format of our block exams today and all I can say is yikes. All our exams are taken on a computer. I thought it would be all one test, but instead it’s four separate mini exams. We have one hour to answer 50 questions and a good chunk of that time is going to be wasted downloading and uploading each exam.
