Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It’s a great problem to have but still hard for sure!!
I'm glad I had that problem, but I'm also glad my desicion became easy to make with WSU standing out to me above the rest in all aspects and not just financially 🙂 Goodluck making your decisions!

Is anyone else having a really difficult time turning down offers? I know where I'm going, but it's still really hard for me to tell the other schools "No, I'm not coming."
Congrats on making your decision and getting into multiple schools! And maybe it would make it a tiny bit easier to think about how you’re giving someone else a chance to go to what could be their dream vet school?

That absolutely helps and I've definitely been thinking about that a lot! It's just one of those situation where it helps to know I'm not the only one going through it. Thanks Ski, I'm rooting for you!

Okay so one last attempt:
What would you all pick?
Option 1: School with a program I like better but the area cost more to live in.
Option 2: Area I'd really like to live, more affordable but the program doesn't blow me away quite as much (still good though)

**Dont overthink it like me just answer**

I'm going with the ski response here. Go to the cheapest option even if it means cheaper COL. 🙂

Picked my school: PennVet! I'm ready to be a PennWe, all the way 😆

Put in my papers on Friday, and I found a place to live over the weekend. If anyone else on here lives or will live close to 43rd and Baltimore -- basically on Clark Park, lemme know! I found the park I wanted for my little one, and I am indeed living on top of it -- front door opens up to a view of the dog bowl and close enough to walk to and from during lunch hour!

Deciding how much in unit laundry is worth to me and possibly having a dog...I hate house hunting. I like where I live now!

All of this. Dilemma: apartment 1 coin op laundry but allows pets cheapest option. Apartment 2-in unit laundry but no pets approximately $200 more monthly than option 1. Apartment 3- in unit laundry and pets approximately $300 more monthly than option 1
ETA: you know fighting that whole go with the cheapest option part of my brain.

Oh man. Sorry I'm late to this convo. My chocolate furball -- Z (pictured in my avvie) is almost 2.5 years old. In unit laundry is SO CLUTCH! I usually do all the laundry in the house and I probably do about 4, maybe 5 loads of laundry a week, and that's about $60-$70/month. Maybe 2-3 of those monthly loads belong to the human lady who tolerates Z and I on a regular basis :angelic: and I'm sorry but I wash my sheets and blankets on a weekly basis. If you have a dog that likes water and mud or needs to go out and be outside for an hour or more everyday come hell or high water, rain or shine, then you're going to be doing more laundry that not. Sometimes I'll be wearing a nice clean pair of pants, and Z will decide to do a flyby post food eating/water drinking drool swipe or will decide to double paw me for the ball at the park. That usually means wash at the end of the day rather than re-wear as certain mud stains don't wash out. Muddy pants, muddy clothes, extra towels wiping them off, extra towels bathing them, dirty bedding more often etc. I also spoiled mine and got the great dane memory foam bed from Orvis and that thing fills the god damn machine up by itself. If laundry is on your floor, then ok, sure doable. But if it's on another floor, or like youngkal said -- time restrictions, it gets annoying. If you're going to get a smaller dog or one that may not necessarily like water as much as a lab will, then it's a different story. As others have echoed -- if not sure/no dog currently, probably best to go with apartment 1 (given you do a normal amount of laundry and don't change outfits on the hour, every hour). This way you could save some $$ for when you do get a dog, because even as a vet student, dog ownership is not cheap (food, health care, insurance, toys to destroy etc). If a dog is in your future, then apartment 3 is nice -- but is it $300 nice? Depends on you -- if the convenience factor of having in your place vs down 2 flights of stairs or hauling laundry soap around etc is worth it then go ahead. Also, is apt 3 nicer? Better location, better amenities, near park/grocery store, renovated inside etc.

That got long winded. Apologies!

Totally makes sense, I'm just having a hard time saying no to my other option for some reason...idk but I'm making myself choose by April 1st or I'll literally never choose..

So... you like the area, the program is more affordable, and the program is still good? Option 2.

It was hard to let go of my dream school (even, though I got in) for a variety of reasons... but there were also a variety of reasons why my final choice was also right for me. And once I decided, I felt great. It feels great right this second, too, hahaha. Also, once I got a t-shirt it was so over. Don't worry, you got this and I think everyone is right, at the end of the day, school is school, and we'll make friends/get a good education/make the most of out it, regardless!

Agreed. Even if it means MSU is out, go cheaper!

Hmm can't be a coincidence everyone says 2. 😉The boyfriend is worried I'm picking 2 for him (it's also his favorite option) says I need to choose what's best for me. I chose 2 earlier today when talking to him and maybe my gut is right. Literally wanted to throw my laptop trying to find affordable housing in the other location..

Will the options affect your future? Money is important, sure, but if you have a specific career goal in mind, that matters.

If the other option makes you feel that way (the whole chuck the laptop) definitely go with option 2. Staying IS for me gave me that same exact feeling between how much it cost me tuition wise and a 1br apartment with practically no options under $1200/mo. I could get a whole house for that price where I'm moving, but I'm living for about half that price in an apartment. It's scary and yes its hard to say no to a school and for me it's scary moving so far away but I'm so happy with my choice even if it has presented its own challenges moving so far away

Lol thanks staffy! We decided to go with option 3 because option 2 had 0 openings. We are waiting for approval but I'm sure we'll get it. A bit sad I'm 95% sure I'm leaving my kayak with my parents but on the other hand the apartment is brand new and I get to live on a hill and get a view 😀

I mean, I think option 2 is a good choice even though the colors are ugly 😉

Not to mention the minor details of school tuition 🤣I’ve spent a little time in the Northwest but no where near enough, so beautiful :luck:

Apparently you have to be Facebook friends with him to be considered friends 🙄🙄🙄
Hurtful. I feel like that's his own fault anyways.
Aw, play nice, kids. staffy and I became friends via SDN and now we’re real life friends. Makes my heart happy.

And, I’m with you, @MixedAnimals77 . But what kind of cheese do you get on your cheesesteak? (There’s only one answer 😉 )

Whiz 100% only in philly. I just haven't found one out west here that quite equates to a true philly.

Um who are you? J/k j/k real life friends is theee best 😍

he claims he owes me a beer so I feel like that's basically friendship...

😉

Hahaha I see you haven’t forgotten about that beer — and for sure, the promise of a shared beer, at the very least, qualifies for friendship🙂

Uh oh, will I be in trouble if I say the whiz creeps me out, and I’ll have to start with regular provolone before picking up the courage to try whiz :bag:

Hey, I am playing nice! Staffy can be my friend if he wants to be.

But only if I continue to get dog pictures.

Hahaha you can also be my friend, too 🙂 Two way street! Let’s see some pics of your pets (if you have any)! And down to send over more dog pic tax 😉

and they're letting you become a PennWe?????? They're even gonna let you step foot in the state? Seems like a crime to me

@SkiOtter this is how we know he definitely hasn't come across my facebook yet.

Hahaha shhh! They haven’t accepted my deposit yet! I’m sure I’ll be a quick study of cheesesteaks. Apparently there are a whole slew of places (like Jim’s) that I need to try!

😆I think you’ll have no issue there. His videos of ZB are some of my absolute fav.

Uhhh, can we mute these videos first? No one needs to hear Z voice :hilarious:

Jim's is AMAZING!!! Although I'd recommend going in day light and not 1am  Like it was fine, but felt a bit sketchy that late at night.
