Dean Frantz says the same thing to everyone. I know we've established that already, but I'm just reminding everyone not to get excited at anything that man says. It sucks that he has been doing this for so long and doesn't understand the mentality that we come to him with. I don't know about the rest of you, but any glimmer of hope that comes from the dean of admissions is a big thing for me, and I irrationally over analyze any positive words that are said. How can he build everyone's hopes up like that knowning that he will disappoint the majority?
Sorry but this waiting process SUCKS! And it's not just the waiting: The logistical mess that comes with it is worse. Think about housing, moving, storage, and other things that depend on this waitlist action. How are we supposed to carry on with our lives and summer plans? I understand that this might seem trivial to many, but I haven't been home in 2 years (I'm not from the US) and I just want to go back and see my parents with a clear plan, and a stress free mind. But NO! i have to wait till the last minute to find out where I'll be going next august. I say F*#k that. These Med schools know that we are a desperate group, and they treat us like S*&t. Sorry for this rant, but im just frustrated with all this waiting.
Whoa guys, relax.... first of all, yes, Turtle, I think that the people being accepted are
qualified but maybe not as overtly as someone without ties. I don't think admissions standards are relaxed for anyone - think about the headache and loss of reputation there would be for the institution to push through an unqualified candidate. I think instead it works out that if there isn't necessarily anything bad about someone with ties, they'll take them over a candidate without them.
And Shambohh, believe me I understand the boat you're in -- though it probably isn't as rough for me as I am home! But I really don't think the admissions staff at any of these schools (including P&S) are malicious. It's in their best interest to fill positions as quickly as they open up so that they have a guaranteed class size, and I do think they move on an acceptance offer as soon as spots are available. It's just that people (like me
🙄 ) are all holding onto multiple acceptances until they have all the information at hand needed to make a decision. Stuff like finaid which I
still dont have from some schools. Every interview I went to stressed the school's desire to have a real acceptance or decline from everyone ASAP.
In Dr. Frantz's case, he has to walk a fine line. He's got a full class of acceptances in hand right now, but what if, come May 15th, he gets 100 declines handed to him? Stranger things have happened. By remaining optimistic with his alternates, he ensures that they don't all walk and that he can still meet his quota. He knows that some of the alternates would decline acceptance to attend other schools, so the list has got to be bigger than the number of positions available. While it's true that any of us might be in the bottom 1/3 of the (unranked) waitlist, it is a finite length, and you're on the list because there is always that real possibility of you being made an offer. I personally think that after years of dealing with neurotic alternates, he really does understand our mentality

He offers a glimmer of hope because there really is one... but remember... it's just a glimmer.
🙂
Best of luck to all of you (and me!) with it.
