I looked everywhere and couldn't find a thread for Colorado State yet, so I'll start one. I actually decided to apply a week ago, so it was a very last-minute decision.

For those of you who are also applying this year, what made you choose to apply to Colorado State?

Fort Collins. Colorado. Good research funding. People seemed happy there.

I decided to apply after seeing a post from someone on the forums about how they did their selection process. I actually was considering them earlier in the summer, but scratched the school off my list after I discovered that I had to ask some of my evaluators to complete a third one (applying to a dual-degree program at another school - didn't want to ask my evaluators to fill out too many evaluations). After seeing the post on here, I looked into the supplemental application, and decided to consider the school again. It was a week before the deadline and I wasn't sure if I was applying yet, so I asked my evaluators if they could fill out the extra evaluations anyway. They all got them in, and I applied.

I really like the research at CSU, the school is located near the headquarters for the company where my boyfriend works (he could keep his current job if I go there!), and the supplemental application highlights my strong points, so that's why I ultimately decided to apply last-minute. 🙂

Yay! I'm so glad you guys started this forum, I was beginning to wonder if no one was applying here this year lol. Good luck ya'll. And if you have any Q's about CSU I'd be glad to help.

With Amendment 64 coming up, who wouldn't want to live in CO?

Just curious as to know what is unique about CSU's selection process!

CSU has a very holistic way of viewing applications. They don't tend to put as much weight on stats like GPA and GRE. They focus more on the application/ applicant as a whole. For example: there is often forgiveness given to people with lower undergraduate GPAs that have shown an improvement in graduate programs.

Hi! I applied! CSU is my first choice but being from Jersey I'm trying not to be picky =)

I love the atmosphere, from what I can tell. Lots of special species electives offered, and critters are my thing. I'm at Cornell for undergrad and I'd love to see what life out of the northeast has to offer!

Good luck to everyone!!

Hi everyone,

I am feeling a tad frustrated this morning. So I've been checking the admissions portal for receipt of materials and my PPI eval box still hadn't been checked. So I finally emailed Janet Janke only to find that they never received it although I sent it on Sept. 30,

She replied that they can no longer receive materials and that the missing PPI won't affect my application. However, I can't help but feel like it is going to weigh negatively. Has anyone had any experience with this or know if it really is important or not?

Any input is appreciated...

It is my belief Davis and CSU are the only schools to require the PPI. In light of this, according to the ETS website, the PPI is for those times when select candidates are neck and neck and help adcoms break the tie. It's certainly great to hear of their holistic approach, since I am a nontraditional and my undergrad grades are not up to snuff. Best of luck to everyone!

Colorado State is my dream school. Almost cried when I hit submit because I have been working towards that moment since I was 12

You can now check the status of your application! Mine says evaluation pending for combined programs. So exciting! 😀 I doubt I'll be accepted to a combined program, but at least I will hear something early on.

Denied 🙁

Good luck to the rest of you! Hope you get better news than I did!

sorry to hear that JPT. Mine says pending in regular applicant pool

From Mary at the Admissions office today....

"We are in the final stages of merging all the information sent in by applicants to the School of Veterinary Medicine, and you will be sent an e-mail soon letting you know if your file is complete or if there are items missing which need to be addressed. You are correct about the Supplemental Application. Again, you will be notified via e-mail when that is ready to be completed on-line. Please make certain that if you change any of your contact information you let us know right away since much of the communication between the school and applicants is conducted by e-mail."

Best of luck with your other schools JP. I too have passed the early academic review process. Hope everyone's nerves are not falling apart yet.:scared:

Wisc?

in the regular admissions pool as well 🙂

Denied for a dual-degree, but my application will be considered in the regular admissions pool. Not disappointing at all since my application to the school was last-minute. 🙂

Hi everyone,

I am reading this and am totally freaking out! I honestly think I checked about 12 times today. I applied to the DVM/PhD program and my evaluation is still pending!:scared:😡:scared: Good luck everyone!:luck:

The PhD program tends to move slower than the other two

My nerves are getting there :S Does anyone know what exactly the "regular pool" entails? Does it means that it puts you into your corresponding state (i.e., wiche, sponsored, non-sponsored)?

AWWW The suspense is killing me!!!!!

Hold your horses! You have til Dec. to hear anything unless you applied to a combined program. The "regular pool" also depends on what you're talking about. If you applied to a combined program then it means they are considering you for the "regular" DVM program. If you applied to the regular program, it means you passed the initial phase and are moving on. Good luck! I know how rough the waiting is!!

Thank you! I did not apply to the combined program. Since I will graduate with my Masters in May, I didn't want to do another one 🙂

Thanks for your encouragment! I will just keep checking the portal for news(hopefully good news!!)

My status is confusing...
It says I'm an alternate for the DVM/MPH combined program and that I'm being considered in the regular applicant pool. Alternate? Does that mean I was automatically wait-listed? CSU doesn't have interviews, right?

Also, does anyone else not have a check mark or accurate dates near the status of their official GRE scores? I freaked out when I saw that on Friday and impulsively resent my official scores thinking that status meant they had not yet been received. Hope the school doesn't disqualify me for looking crazy by re-sending an unnecessary doc.

I think that means you didn't get into the DVM/MPH program but you are an alternate, so if a spot opens up.... The regular applicant pool means they're still considering your application for the DVM program.

No check mark next to my GRE scores, just the scores and date.

Yep! It means you weren't flat out rejected from the combined program. That's a great thing congrats! And when you aren't accepted into the combined, they automatically put you into the regular DVM app pool. So your application will now be looked at for that program and if a spot in the combined program opens up, you can jump back up to the combined program. 🙂

Hey all. Long time lurker here - finally coming out of the woodwork.

I know that all combined degree decisions were to be posted on November 2nd, however I am curious to know if anyone else remains in the "still being evaluated" scenario like myself. Has anyone else applying for DVM/PhD heard any sort of decision?

Hey JUMPthemoon. We're in the same boat and I am glad I am not the only one. I have eagerly checked the site repeatedly to see if the decision has been made. I figure they are taking their time with this one as it is a large investment in an individual. Best of luck! :luck:

And to you as well! An understandable lag in decision with regard to the investment, most definitely.. Checking fairly compulsively regardless 😛

The PhD pool usually moves slower than the other combined pool. They will send out interviews soon if it is anything like last year. It is the only program that interviews, so decisions take longer for that reason as well.

From the CSU admissions portal announcement board:

MBA/DVM and MPH/DVM Reviews: Application reviews for these two programs have been completed and decisions have been posted

ANYONE GET GOOD NEWS?!?!?!
I didn't apply for combined but maybe some of you guys did 🙂

Congrats! I am in Fort Collins, Let me know if you need anything or directions, while you are here 🙂 Fort Collins is a beautiful town and would be nearly perfect, if not for all the blasted trains (but you get used to them)😛 Where are you coming from?

I was looking at past years admissions stats and saw that the number of non-sponsored admitted was 27 last year, 40 the year before and then 32 the two years before that. Does anyone know if this number is decided on before application review or if it varies based on the applicant pool?

There used to be an exact breakdown on the FAQ section, but they removed it so I think it is likely based on the applicant pool. At least that is what makes sense to me. I remember it used to be like 75 from CO (max of 25 from CSU) then like 25 WICHE and 25 non sponsored- give or take. But they dont have it advertised, anymore and that was before they had the combined programs, so ya... guess I wasnt to helpful. LOL

Trains, seriously?? I love trains! Like, freight trains that go through/by town? I'm coming from near Berkeley, California. We've got trains through here too. Maybe everyone does 🙂 Thanks--I hope I love it, I expect I will. Looks a little cold, but I love snow. Hey, question for you Maschka1, speaking of... someone just told me there's snow on the ground, like a couple of feet, through the whole winter. Is that true? What's the actual snow level like? Thanks!

No, I have lived in CO my whole life, and snow is not that common in the winter (in the foot hills). In the mountains that is true, so if you need a snow fix you can just head out west 🙂 It does snow, here, but it usually doesn't stick around for long

LOL. Yes, there are several tracks that run through town and one that goes through campus. I have been late to class more then I would like to, due to the silly things. I do know a few people from California have been whining that it is cold, here, but honestly I would call our winters rather mild. As far as snow, it generally melts by the next day, after a storm, with the exception of the usual "big storm" once or twice through the winter. It is more likely to be brightly sunny and frequently I do not even wear a coat in the winter months. Like fireflysushi said, the snow is in the Mountains 🙂
I would certainly make sure you have a nice pair of boots and a parka, but you wont need them all the time. Funny story, last winter my Grandmother called me from Florida, weekly. Almost every time she called it was warmer here then it was in Florida.

Honestly, I feel like Colorado has great weather. All our seasons are mild and not humid. it is a win-all around!

Hey y'all. Question for you... any input would be appreciated.

It was stated on the portal that denials were posted for the DVM/PhD, and that those to be interviewed would be sent e-mails... my portal says I'm still being evaluated as it has for awhile now, but alas I have not received an e-mail.

Is anyone else in this position? Livin' in limbo.

Sounds like you may have good news coming your way🙂 Just wait a bit longer...

Based on the c/o 2015 hearing on 12/17 (Friday), and c/o 2016 hearing on 12/16 (Friday), how do we feel about the chances of hearing in nine days? :scared:

😱 so close!
