Bottom line: Very excited about the program!
1) The day started off with a brief/PPT presentation by the Dean. She answered many of my questions (and many of your questions). Right now, it sounds like they are NOT competing "in AMEC" with ACOM. Since VCOM is an established institution, they have sites available outside of AMEC. Also, they are fully accredited, not provisionally accredited since this is a "new campus" of an "existing school". If you are looking to stay specifically in Alabama, I personally don't believe you will have any issues (my opinion only based on info provided during the briefing).
2) I interviewed with a new professor (DO) that left his private practice to come and instruct. My second interview was with a PhD that is a current professor at Auburn University. From what I took away from the briefing, it seems to be a combination of both new and existing professors. However, I am very impressed that professors are willing to leave their full-time, established careers to come and start a new campus from the ground up.
3) Very comfortable with the available rotations. My plans are for primary care as of today. They currently have VCOM-CC students in Alabama doing "test rotations" in preparation for the inaugural class. The Dean really made me feel comfortable about this issue.
4) As far as a specific teaching hospital, I don't recall specifically. However, East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) is in Auburn and there are students currently rotating there.
