Houston?
Boston U, Tufts, and Harvard are currently holding interviews.
Sorry I meant they are currently having their interviews this week. I am a resident in one of the programs and have been talking to the interviewees about where else they are going. What do you mean holding? Does that mean that they haven't given out interviews yet? If so, how come?
What are the programs with late deadlines? and is it worth applying this late?
UCLA just gave out interviews an hour ago!
They only have the date next Monday and at this point in the game some people would turn it down, so there's a chance they may send out another round of interviews.
Has anyone heard from Maryland for offers?
Has anyone heard from University of Connecticut?
Yep, UConn is set for 8/17Someone I know is interviewing at UConn next week... Maybe someone else can confirm this
A colleague of mine accepted an offer to Florida within the last week.Any news from Columbia, buffalo, and stony brook? Has U Florida sent out acceptance offers?
You are awesome!!!!!!!!I disagree. There is no contract that is signed, at least not initially. There is a non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. It is there to make sure you are serious about taking the position that is being offered and it is far from legally binding. If there is another program that offers you an interview and subsequently a position and it makes sense for you (cheaper, better program, better location, whatever the reason) then I say take it. Realize you will not get your deposit back from the original program you accepted at. I have heard from an endo program director that this would show a lack of integrity. Tell me how. Logs may have a family to support while in residency and it would be totally irresponsible of him/her to go to a program that costs over $200k for 2 years when there is a program that costs $30k for the same certificate. Or they may have no tuition at all and offer a stipend. That is a very real life decision to make. Tell me how that lacks integrity when programs won't even let you interview at another program if they have accepted you without the threat of calling the other PD because "we all talk to each other." That lacks integrity and is in my mind petty. It is completely weighted in the programs' favor and none in the applicants'. You should be able to visit the programs that see you as a potential resident and offer you an interview. You should be able to see which programs might be a good fit for you (location, price, director, etc.) and then be able to make a decision. If the program directors refuse to join match or come to some understanding then that is their problem. To threaten you all with the chance of no program accepting you because you are trying to make an informed decision of what might be best for you is crazy. Are they just butt hurt because you picked another program over theirs? It is nothing more than inconvenient for them to call the next person on their list. They should be open to the idea that someone might like another program better than theirs and not have to revert to threats if that person chooses to forgo their deposit and go somewhere else. That's life.
I get that that's the way it is right now and I'm calling bs. If this were to happen to somebody and they were to get legitimately blackballed from other programs I would say raise as much hell as you can. Sue the hell out of them (with no legal grounds to do so). Light em up and make an issue of it. Maybe something will change for the next cycle cause it's crazy the way they are doing it now.
Good luck to everyone as things wind down and these last spots get filled. Hopefully some people get picked up in the shuffle.
I thought it would be interesting if people reported their estimated expenses for this process. PASS application fees, transcript fees, board score fees, individual school application fees, airfare, lodging, car rentals for interviews......
I would guess that I am easily in for over 5K if I added it all up.
Just about the same, 5200 is what I spent but I was lucky enough to stay with friends and relatives in a few of the places that I went to. Also, I cancelled two interviews after I got accepted. If that were not the case, I'm probably in for a couple extra k's!
Good luck for all applicants , I did apply to several programs this cycle but didn't get any invitations. If possible can anyone of the accepted candidates share what are the aspects each program require or like to see on applicants profile during their selection procedure. Like what each program is looking for , I am a foreign grad so your feedback will really help. Apply to
1. More schools
2. Less selective schools (ie. expensive private schools). The fact that you're out of the game at this point means your list was too selective.
Also note that not all schools accept foreign grads.

I dont know what to say here .. Im a bit disappointed in this whole process ..
Im a graduate of a north east dental school - GPS 3.5
Was active in school and a student government for two years - good relationship with faculty and everone .. But im an international dentist as well. I did the advanced standing program and got my DMD .. Been working for three years now and i applied to 18 residency programs .. East and west private and public expensive 100k a year to cheap and with stipend..
But I didn't get a single interview
Everyone i talked to before told me I have a nice resume and will get some interviews.. My school faculty even told me not to apply to many schools just do 10 .. I have only two weeks left where i might get an interview from my school as a faculty told me to wait more (not guaranteed yet) but other than that what a shock it is and disappointment.
Best of luck to everyone and congrats to those who nailed it!
