Hi, anyone interviewed with St Francis Hospital in Delaware for family medicine? I would love some information about the interview day.

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone on the forum! I wish you all the best of luck in 2020!
I wanted to ask if anyone has interviewed at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (Newark) internal medicine program and if they would be kind enough to share their experience? Thank you!

I did. They have a separate interview day in the week for IMGs. They take a good number of IMGs but I believe they have a STRONG preference for Carribean IMGs (says on their website they prefer US citizens/residents).

Program is pretty nice. Decent fellowship placement esp Cards. Environment seemed very collegial between residents. They see a lot of diverse pathology - there was a slide of all the things they had seen in the past year and it looked like they had seen plenty of zebra and complex things. They do have grueling 8+2 schedule with a drip admission system. The residents emphasized that intern year is pretty tough. Newark isn't the best city but you're always close to NYC if you live close-by.

Can anyone share their interview experience at Cook County hospital IM program?
Thtd be highly appreciated!

Thank you very much! How were the actual interviews? Were there medical questions? Much appreciated.

Match data: https://mk0nrmp3oyqui6wqfm.kinstacd...NRMP-Results-and-Data-2019_04112019_final.pdf

Look at PDF page 59, table 19.

About 1/3 of US MD's get something in SOAP. Only 3% of IMG's get a spot.
The 3% most likely are people with the best connections or those with exceptional CVs from top Caribbean med schools. We might have a chance with SOAP if there has been huge change in our CV. For example, if one with Step 1 and 2 below average scored 250S in step 3, there might be programs that dig the CV that just got sexier!

Anyone interview at U Miami/JFK ? Any input would be appreciated

Laidback interview. Brief presentation of the program by the PD. Morning teaching session. Two interviews (1 PD or APD, 1 faculty member), no behavioral or medical question, only CV related questions. Lunch with residents.

Hope it helps! Good luck!

IV with two faculty members x 20 minutes. They are blinded to your application so it’s very conversational. No medical or behavioral questions. Absolute best food day though lol

Hello guys. I got invited for a "second look". It's just a dinner with the residents on February. Does anyone know what to expect or what does it mean to get invited to go on a second look? Does it mean my chances of matching there are pretty good if I go?

Dinner with residents is not what a typical “second” look.
Typically programs will offer a second look visit, but it’s not a required yes or no...

Second looks are usually a half or whole day that allows you to have a closer look at things...go to morning report or noon conference...sometimes round with a floor team...talk to specific attendings , etc.

Can anyone share IV experience at UPMC Pinnacle? General thoughts on the program?

A PD at a program told us 2nd looks won't effect your ranking and it's only to help us decide between ranking programs.

Thanks so much! Very helpful. At this point in the game, quality of the food is heavily influencing my rank list lol

Hi there, long term lurker, first-time poster. This thread has been very encouraging this season. I think based on how quiet/rejection filled my inbox is these days, that my interview season has come to an end so now I'm turning to the process of trying to do up my rank list. I was wondering if I could get some insight into this from anyone on this forum. My ultimate goal is either endo or hem-onc and to work in an academic setting.
I am really confused about whether to rank the university programs or university-affiliated community programs higher on my list.
The reason I am moving to the US is because my American partner would have better job opportunities if we moved there. Initially, I was thinking of going to a uni program and doing the J1 visa but we are planning to get married this fall which changes things a bit. I have been advised by (non-medical) people that it would be better for me to get a H1B as I would be entitled to a marriage-based GC rather than going J1 and having to do the J1 waiver after training. So I’m now wondering if it makes more sense to put the programs that give H1b visas like Mount Sinai SLR, Mount Sinai Beth Isreal, Jacobi, Pennsylvania Hospital etc higher than the uni places like UConn, KUMC, Albany Med College (which all only do J1). I know it’s hard to get a fellowship on H1B however I think I would have my GC on time for fellowships apps and I’m not totally opposed to a chief year if I had to wait longer for whatever reason.
I know a university program residency is an advantage for both fellowships and for getting jobs in academic medical centers post-training but I have also heard the J1 waiver jobs for a subspecialist are not great for an academic career either. I’m not sure how easy it would be to get back into an academic medical center after 3 years in a waiver job? That being said, I’m not sure how hard it is to get into that from a community residency, but I presume a lot of that has to do with where you get fellowship which is also more difficult coming from a community hospital. It seems difficult either way tbh but I would really appreciate anyone with insight into this as the only people I have been discussing visa issues with are non-medical.

Sorry if I am intrusive. Are you able to check if there are spots lefts in the calendar?

This will be program dependent. In some programs, it means nothing and it's just for you. In others, they may use it as a measure of interest in the program.

It really depends upon the program, and upon the field you choose. Endo is very non-competitive, and you're likely to get a spot no matter where you train. H/O is more competitive and will be more difficult to get. But not all community programs are created equal, some have their grads go into fellowships on a regular basis. Your best measure of success is how succcessful other grads from those programs have been going into H/O.

To me it is a no-brainer that for someone in your situation H1B is preferable to J1. I declined to prematch at one of the uni places you mentioned, specifically ranked at the top only programs that offered H1B visas, ended up matching at Jacobi, then got into the fellowship program of my choice (with a GC in hand) and ultimately a dream job faculty position. Yes, it can be a little scary applying for fellowships while on an H1B visa but in the long-term you will be thankful you did not start on a J1 even if your fellowship interview pool is limited by the H1B (in case you do not have a GC by that time). I have seen many FMGs choose J1 over H1B and then regret it in their final years of fellowship.

I have been advised by (non-medical) people that it would be better for me to get a H1B as I would be entitled to a marriage-based GC rather than going J1 and having to do the J1 waiver after training. if you don't get invited for 2nd look, does it mean you are not in the top rank list of the program?

A lot of programs I went to said they don’t prefer it and don’t care about it. However, I would go to this one if I can because they invited you. It may mean nothing, but I wouldn’t want to have left a stone unturned

Very chill. You only interview with one faculty member. Mainly conversational +/- one behavioral question. Program is changing for the better and fellowship match list is also pretty solid.
