Kansas City University (KCU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for those who interviewed, were y'all really done by 4:30? All the flights that I see are at 6 pm and if the interview day does end at 4:30 id be really pushing to get to the flight on time.

I think my interview was at 1:30-1:45 ish and I was finished with my entire day around 2:30-3pm. I suggest listening to what others have said, let admissions know your travel arrangements!

I finished around 3pm too. You'll have plenty of time. Admissions also asks for the flight schedules of students interviewing, so maybe they will give you an earlier time or you can let them know your concern and see if an earlier slot is possible.

I had a 5:30pm flight. I let KCU know and they gave me the very first interview slot 1:30pm I believe. Had plenty of time to catch my flight.

Waitlisted interviewed 10/01...hopefully I get off the list!

Unbelievable! ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!! Wooooo! That wait was SO worth it!

Yay!! I remember your thread, at least I think it was yours, about deciding whether to attend the interview or not. I am glad it paid off for you!

The people with recent IIs.. What dates are still open for interviews? Like is it only Decemeber and later that is still open?

When I got my II around 10/8, I think, I was able to pick a date the very next week. So I think there are a lot of spots still open.

Interview this Tuesday, really nervous.
Any advice?
Why kcumb?

Be yourself, it's a relaxed day.

Their website details a lot of unique features the school has as well as some more common but interesting facets. You should check it out and do some research. I don't think a bunch of strangers will be able to tell you why you should go to a school.... Also pretty sure that exact question is one of the secondary prompts..... read what you wrote and be able to expound.

The interview itself is also the last part of the day, you will have a pretty good idea of what the school has to offer after hearing the presentations and talking to the student ambassadors.

Good luck!

I'm waiting for the secondary from here, and I went to the secondary application site... I can log into the secondary site and all my address and other info (aacomas id) is there. Should I wait to fill out the application until they send me an email telling me to do so, or can I fill it out now? Has anyone else experienced this?

Wait for secondary mail OR call them to ask them to send to you. I think they screen the primary for cut off to deny secondary. Don't do things out of the normality

Thanks, I appreciate it. I wasn't sure if the secondary being accessible to me was an indication I had passed the screen. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Call them. I didn't get any emails from them either until I called and they said that they had sent me stuff. Found out later that it was getting redirected to various folders in my email that I didn't even know I had.

Alright people, I'm at Jack Stack.. Checking on some burnt ends. I told the waiter I'm from Texas so he better bring it!
Try some KC Joes (previously Oklahoma Joes)!

So I would say that is the second best BBQ I've had, behind The Salt Lick back in Texas.

Guy waiting on me told me to try this place too! I will try it tomorrow for sure!

Just because its bigger in Texas doesn't mean its better.

PS. I like Texas.

Had a great interview day here, props to everyone who was involved in putting this day together!

Hope the adcom shows me some love because I was very impressed and Dr. Dubin = life goals! He had some great things to say and love the way he carries himself.

Can someone explain how grand rounds work and what the point is/ how is it beneficial? Seems like you just present a case... How much prep time is there? It seems like grand rounds would be somewhat tedious.

You and a group of 6-7 will be provided a case via MGH released case records about two to three weeks before your presentation. you will choose to be a researcher, leader, presenter and your role vary as such. You meet up basiclly everyday to research the case, speak with clinical faculty to discusa management approraches, pathophys, ddx, and also how to say some of the verbage. you practice the presenation a few times and faculty will attend to critique it.

hopefully that helps!

Do you just do 1?

For first year yes. Second year there are "mini-case rounds" in which you only get a specific amount of time in the morning to read up on a patient. You do some research on it and present it to a physician (as if you are presenting the patient to an attending during morning rounds). Maybe @chizledfrmstone or @Stagg737 can better describe what grand rounds are like second year.

Quick question. The secondary asks that we have a letter from premed committee and a doctor be sent DIRECTLY to KCUMB. Is it ok if the letters are sent through AACOMAS?
