To previous KState students - how was the interview? I have a bunch of practice questions printed out and have been going over my application. Is it more conversational? Knowledge based? thanks!!!

The interview is really nice. It's conversational and they will ask you questions about the stuff on your application. They really try and put you at ease. They did ask me some more 'generic' questions.

For the questions about your application are they like “tell me more about this experience”, like more expanding on what you have on your application?

Make sure you guys know what one health is and how veterinarians contribute. That’s something that seems to throw a lot of people off.
This, 100%. They asked me about it during my interview and I had no idea. I did say that I had no idea what it was, and they explained it. Then I answered the question, but would have been less stressful if I'd known.

They ask you questions related to the stuff on your application. For example if I worked at an animal shelter they might ask me what I think about X issue in shelters or why shelters are important. Or if I did a lot of stuff in Africa they might ask about 'X' issue in Africa.

It isn't stressful and if you don't know something they don't hold it against you. They want to see how you handle it if you don't know. They want you to seem poised, calm, that you know what you are getting in to, that you are passionate about vet med but can also deal with people under stress or in difficult circumstances. Good luck all and I may talk to a couple of you in the after interview Zoom!

I've seen some good suggestions on what to expect for the interviews, but I would like to know...

What are you all doing to prepare for it?

Me, I'm planning to look at some of the reviews online for past interviews and example questions, answer them on paper. Write out an "about myself" paragraph incase they ask the dreaded question "tell us about yourself" as well as get myself up to date on all the current vet news.

The “tell me about yourself” is almost guaranteed to be asked. Generally the panel will introduce themselves then ask you that dreaded question. My advice would be to not just reiterate things off your application- they can read that. Yes the most important things like school and what not you can say but it should just be a short little introduction to yourself.

What is everyone planning to wear considering the interviews are over zoom? I thought of just a nice blouse, but maybe go the extra mile with a blazer? Obviously pants don't matter too much but I'll wear jeans just to get in the mindset.

I’m gonna wear a blouse and my blazer! I have three frog pins I’ve got pinned to the lapel of my blazer that my father gifted me for good luck for my interviews last cycle that I definitely want to wear again this cycle I did all of my research in Herpetology so it’s also a conversation starter, lol

Where is everyone finding practice interview questions (besides on here - I haven’t found a lot on here)?

I was going to write the same thing. I just been using the basic interview questions but don’t know if that would be enough

I printed out a bunch just doing a generic search. I know for sure they are going to ask about one health, “tell us about yourself”, knowing current events, why K state etc. i found a lot of help looking on YouTube and tips from medical school interviews!

Does anyone know how long after interviews/ when they send out official admissions offers?

Has anyone done a zoom meeting that requires a password log in like we will be using? All my other zoom interviews just used a secure link they emailed us ahead of time.

Yeah it’s no big deal. You just enter the meeting id in zoom and then a small window will pop up asking for the password.

I got asked all of these in my interview back in Feb 2018. I know for sure I was asked about one health in my interview, along with viewing animals as research animals (basically animal welfare vs animal rights), they asked me about the large debt load and how I planned to pay it off, and they asked me about something related to NBAF.

Do you just go to zoom and log in then click the direct link thing they sent and it will ask for the username and password? The zoom aspect is more stressful than the interview itself

Good luck to anyone with an interview today!! Mine is tomorrow and I would love to hear how yours go! 🙂

So you have the zoom app right? (If not, just download it on your computer for the interview) then you will sign in with your username and password for zoom. Then you click join meeting and you enter the meeting id. After this a window will pop up for the password and you enter the password.

Thank you! I have an account and logged in a google browser

It was 25 minutes.
My laptop decided it wouldn’t turn on and it certainly was not going to load zoom. So, as I was panicking they called and I was able to do it on my phone. Other than that, it was a great experience!

Hope it went well for you!!! I had an interview with Mizzou last weekend and Zoom decided it needed to update as it was time for me to log in, I feel your pain.

I don’t see anywhere on mine to update the software. I downloaded it in October. That is my worst fear

Try removing it from your desktop and Re-downloading it? That’s what I plan on doing to be safe!

Definitely make sure your camera and microphone works before the interview.

Mine lasted about 25 minutes. They ask you questions for about 20m and then give you 5 to ask yours. I'd really suggest having a genuine question or two. I asked about job opportunities and the ambassador program.

I was able to briefly talk to two ambassadors prior to the interview, and one after. This is a great chance to ask questions and get answers from a students perspective. I asked her more questions than the interviewers.

Anyways, they asked me to introduce myself, why they should choose me, animal rights vs animal welfare, why I chose my major, and how do vets contribute to the community (which I ended up talking a bit about one health which impressed them). I was also asked why physics is important....which threw me way off. One question which was probably to throw me off a bit, they asked if I paid attention to the news, politics...but the way he asked it threw me off because I wasn't sure what he meant by it.

So yeah. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I felt mostly prepared for a majority of their questions.

I do want to ask, is it "proper" to send thank you notes to each interviewer?

I've heard of a lot of schools asking why is physics important. The politics one is odd.

Good luck to everyone today!!! See you on the other side after 11 am CST! 😆

Mine was at 8:30 this morning! How did everyone’s go?
I thought it went well! I was asked a “what is your weakness” but phrased strangely so i think that threw me off but I know they just want me to be personable and open to change! I really enjoyed the process and my ambassadors were super cool!

I think I got asked the same question! Also got asked how animal welfare applies to pets.... that one threw me off.

ME TOO!!!! omg i was like... well obviously we have to respect and give our pets dignity...? it was wild

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear back regarding a decision? I forgot to ask when I interviewed yesterday!
I asked the ambassador and she said maybe end of Jan-early Feb. They don't keep you hanging for too long.

Do they ask for a lot of details about your research experience?

I was thinking about doing this. Is it inappropriate to do this through email?
I decided to send thank you cards. I knew the clinic where one interviewer worked and sent it there. The other two were faculty so I just put their office number in the address also.

I would assume if you put it down in your application they might. I had no research experience, however they never asked me about my vet experience.

Hey OOS students, I just canceled my interview for 1/15 at 11 am CST bc I was accepted to Cornell and figured one of you interview waitlisted people would love the chance for an interview. I hope I made someones day!
