Lake Erie (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all,

I'll be going to LECOM. If anyone else is going/is intending on going, let's get in touch! I'm curious as to which campuses people are planning on attending, and which pathway for those going to Erie. That, and it will be nice to know people at other campuses as well.

They don't particularly like when you say "people with my stats are getting interviews" because that implies you believe you should receive one. Bad move.

Also let's remember admissions is a holistic review. Grades and MCATs are a piece of the picture. Back to studying.

EDIT: looks like you got an II so congrats. I'm interested to hear your feedback about interview day!
Okay, I think my tone got lost in my brief description of the conversation. When I called, I made it clear that I was very interested in LECOM (someone close to me is finishing this year and I think it's a great fit for me for a number of reasons), and I said I was a little concerned because people who were very similar to me heard back weeks ago and I was under review for a (comparably) long time. It was a pleasant conversation, and I don't think I came off as entitled, because I'm certainly not; I know there are plenty of qualified applicants for every seat in every medical school. But I also know that people may lose track of applications, and sometimes a simple phone call or email expressing interest is enough to get someone to take a look. I don't think it was a bad move. I've been in a position where I've rallied for a candidate who would have been forgotten or brushed off if they hadn't reached out to express genuine interest in the job, so I figured it couldn't hurt to make a call.

Anyway, I'm excited to visit Erie next month, and I hope to see some of you there!

Only had like 6-7 questions over 1hr 10 min. Very relaxed and not intimidating. Had one interviewer who was argumentative just for arguments sake, but was very nice. Don't stress it!

If this was at Seton Hill, would you mind PMing me and telling me who your interviewer was? I promise it won't get back to faculty or anything, I just want to see if my guess of who you are talking about is right. I'm glad you had a good experience!

If you already know that you are in and going to attend, I recommend starting the facebook group for your class now. As people join, select a few people to help you manage it.

I had quite a few friends first day, because we'd been in touch in the weeks and months before. It made the transition a lot smoother.

As in....accepted for c/o 2020? Or are you a early acceptance/undergrad?

LOL, I would love to know as well. One of the interviewers who interviewed me acted in a similar fashion.

I had a generally positive experience with the interview. Everyone was very helpful and I thought they presented the school well. I was skeptical about the group interview format but like everyone else said, it was very low stress and conversational.

Finished interviewing here. I enjoyed the group format here and I thought the interview was low stress. For future interviewees just be yourself and have fun. This school just wants to get to know you.
any ethical questions or MMi?

Im actually driving up from Cleveland so Ill have my car. I cant exactly remember where but I found a list of hotels recommended by LECOM and I think it mentioned which ones had shuttles and the rates you could get. It might be somewhere in the application portal or it was in the email they send with your interview invite.
hey i see you're driving up from Cleveland. I will be driving from Cleveland the morning of the interview due. How is the drive, I know its a two hour drive.

Its honestly such an easy drive you literally take 90 the whole way, all the signs even say Erie lol you should be able to get there in like an hour and 20 minutes.

1.5 hours mostly on 90 east. Not bad. Wouldn't suggest it for a morning interview but if you can't get a hotel in erie its doable.

thank you for your response. to be more specific i am driving from parma heights and google maps is saying its an 1hr 50 minute drive.

Does anyone know if we still need to submit the waiver for our letters, if we waived our rights to them on interfolio? It says it was supposed to be sent to our letter writers, but my letters were written well before I got a secondary. I'm wondering if I could just email it in. I emailed LECOM, but haven't heard back yet.

As far as I know the waiver was just to give to a letter writer if they had not written the letter yet. You should be fine.

Question.. If my supplement app is being reviewed under Lake Erie does this mean it's also being reviewed at seton hill?

It depends if you specified your interest in both at the beginning of the secondary. If you picked that you were interested at both, then you will technically be considered for both.

How long did it take to hear back regarding an II after you've been in the " under review" status ?

I'm wondering the same thing! How quick are they at scheduling or denying interviews once they have received your application?

Mine was 10 days. Seems to flux between 1 and 3 weeks. It is getting busier which might mean longer waits.

I've been completed here and Bradenton since late july. should I call/email them to see where I stand? Not sure if it'll help. My stats are a bit above their average, good experiences/ECs , etc.

From what I read on here, it can be between a week to more than a month. I think someone got an II the next day they submitted.

Yeah, I submitted over a month ago and haven't heard anything back in terms of II. Also above the stats, just waiting patiently.

Anyone still waiting to become "complete" with a July MCAT score?

I honestly can't remember/ confirm to you all if they reject you once they read your app if they decide not to interview, or if it goes back in the review pile. My very vague recollection from was that they did not reject outright at the time of initial review, and possibly kept silent until close to the end of the cycle when 6,000+ or the 7,800 applicants were told they didn't receive an interview.

This game is all about waiting- waiting for interviews, waiting for decisions, waiting on a waitlist, waiting to start school, waiting to be done with your classes, waiting for board scores, waiting to know where you matched, waiting to become a real doctor... Become very comfortable waiting for life-changing decisions because this application cycle is just the beginning. The beginning of a lifetime of doing what you know you're MEANT to do!! :soexcited:

Yes sir I heard back from here within 1-2 weeks after I submitted my secondary while at other DO schools nothing so patients is definitely a good quality to have right now (which I do not lol)

Just got my interview invite!! First interview invite :soexcited:Anyone else from Texas? Not sure when to schedule my interview for

got my interview set up for November 6. Was about to choose one for October and before I finalized it got full :/

For those that interviewed already, what time were y'all done on the day of the interview? Im trying to plan the flight accordingly.
