LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, at least wait till you hear back from the school and see what the results are. ALSO, you should go to all the interviews untill you have an acceptance, just becuase you had a bad experience at one doesn't justify you not going to another. good luck and you will do fine don't worry.

thanks! you're right, i just feel really disappointed. i prepared so much for the interview at bradenton and didn't expect it to go the way it did. but at least it was a learning experience.

i had my interview yesterday and i feel like i got totally rejected.

the person who hadn't read my file seemed to be interested in me till the person who had indicated a couple of bad grades on my transcript and kept asking me how i could handle medschool if i had gotten a c in one upper division class.

i pointed out how i had consistently gotten all a's in 6 classes/quarter in my latter years at a competitive undergraduate institution but they didn't seem too impressed.

what was the point in making me go all the way over there? sigh

You should be expecting questions like this for any interview. It doesn't have anything to do with a C in a class being "bad" or excluding you from acceptance, it's just finding something for you to defend yourself on. It's the same as the "why DO?" question. It doesn't really matter what your answer is, they are just trying to find out if you can thoughtfully defend your position on whatever it is they are asking about. I wouldn't worry about it too much, I bet you did better than you thought! Just be confident and expect questions about anything that might be in your application.

Hey rawr i was there with you that day...Same experience good cop/ bad cop style. I also don't know what to make of it but the Erie interview was not like that so don't worry about it. Lets just hope that the good cop/bad cop thing is just normal protocol.

thanks for your advice! you're completely right, i'm going to be ready next time. we'll see what happens with bradenton. i have an interview at my top choice school in a couple weeks and if anything, at least this interview taught me how to present myself.

hey! it's good to hear that i wasn't the only one who had that sorta experience. maybe it's just how they conduct their interviews. i guess we just have to be prepared for anything. best of luck! :]

At the beginning of last year (and I assume they did the same thing this year with the 1st years), a few of my classmates were invited to a lunch at the start of admissions season. The admissions people asked how they could better present the school to interviewees.

The main things people talked about were the creepy clown collection on the 3rd floor (yes, really), and what people described as a confrontational interviewing style. Dr. Krueger acted surprised when several people said that, and he insisted they didn't give the faculty any specific orders on how to interview people. Anyway, you're not the only people who got this feeling from the interviews here. If I had to guess, I'd say it comes down to the interviewers' personalities.

Several people also asked them to explain the rotations situation better than they did to our class, but I'm not sure how well they're doing that for those of you interviewing now. It's still a bit fuzzy even to most of us in our 2nd year here, but as we figure things out I'll try to fill you guys in as well as I can.

hey, thanks for all the info! yeah, i actually asked about rotations at the end of my interview and was given kind of a vague answer.
i probably just had a turn of bad luck with the person who interviewed me. not only did some of the more invasive questions catch me off guard, but i also felt as though there was no chemistry between us at all.
i wrote a letter to the admissions committee expressing my continued interest in the school and hope they will take a look at it when my application goes to committee tomorrow.
at least i tried my best. if it wasn't meant to be, at least the questions and experience have better prepared me for future interviews.
lol the clowns were pretty funny. the student who gave us the tour said that they were donated by one of the faculty haha

Don't sell yourself short. I had a similar situation like this and I was accepted. Look over my previous posts on page 18 and you can see what I said.

Hey,
I was wondering if you ever started that facebook group... If so, will you put the link up on here? Thanks!

this message was for PED05... I obviously have no idea how to use these threads, haha

I pretty much have the SAME timeline of when you submitted all of your information and I just checked the Portal and I got the "your file will be re-reviewed in 60 days" Anybody know if this should be a good or bad sign? Or who I should go about contacting in ADCOM about this?

i've been offered an alternate position. does anyone know anything about the waiting list?

Congratulations! I interviewed on the 3rd, and I guess I can call them today to find out... did you call or email? I was thinking about calling Lauren in the Admissions office, but I'm just a little hesitant. I mean if she's like "Sorry, better luck next time" then I'll have to still pretend to be nice/polite when I really wont feel like it...:scared:

Checked the Portal today and saw this:
"The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days."

Does this mean I am rejected?🙁

Is this pre-interview or post? If its pre-interview then I'm sorry but it looks like its a rejection. Looking at your mdapps, it looks like your MCAT is a little low for this late in the cycle. If you don't get in, I would suggest either re-taking the MCAT or making sure to get your app in on the first day of next cycle. From everyone I've seen and talked to, it seems LECOM-b places more emphasis on MCAT and how well you fit with the school/ life experiences. Good Luck!!!

I waited for the letter for the same exact reason. I didn't want to find out if I was rejected or waitlisted over the phone. Plus that feeling of opening the envelop with the acceptance was amazing.

I was complete within the first week, but my stats were cgpa 3.3, sgpa 3.0, MCAT 28 for people looking for some comparisons.
For the re-review look at it this way, its not a rejection. A lot of people are waiting for other interviews and make decisions around Dec. Therefore some spots open up then. They probably are just waiting to get an idea of how many spots they still have open. Good Luck :luck:

at my interview, we were told that about 200-300 are placed on the waitlist which they'll review it in January...

is it even possible to have that many people on the waiting list by january? they would have to interview a lotttt of people to have 200-300 on the waiting list in about five months.
i called and the counselor said there should be about 50 people on the waiting list by then.

i've been offered an alternate position. does anyone know anything about the waiting list?

I do know 100% fact that LECOM-B is expanding the class size for incoming fall 2011 students from 150-182 students. I posted an article on it in this thread on the previous page. Maybe this will make it easier for those on the waitlist to become accepted.

Haha Yeah, that's how I started looking at it a couple hours after the initial blow...I've spoken to Annette already - she said to send in my LOR and she would take it back to ADCOM the next time they meet. The DO I've been shadowing should've finished my letter today, so hopefully my letters will be in by Friday or Monday at the latest. Congratulations on getting accepted! Your stats give me some hope since mine are similar to yours (I got a 24 on my MCAT though - which according to Annette their acceptance has averaged out to be a 27 this year...so..here's hoping). :xf: Thanks for the input though - hopefully some spots open up soon.

i really hope so! the admissions counselor said i might hear back in january. i asked her if the list was ranked and she said it wasn't but that i was in a "good position on the list" and just have to be patient. i guess we'll see what happens.

i'm really nervous about this whole process. i hope i get in somewhere.

i think you'll do fine especially if they're telling you your in a good position. def helps, i think, if you continue to show interest. i saw that one of the posters here was actually waitlisted initially after the interview but got off and was accepted only a couple days later! gl, and hope the same happens for u :luck:

I spoke to the admissions officer about this on the phone when I was given the news that I was on the wait-list.

She said there would be about 50 people on the wait list by around December. And around 25 of them will be accepted....and these acceptance would be given out starting December.

200-300
doesn't even make sense really...and so I believe that the user Joliarte may have been mistaken.

omg... i know exactly who you had to interview you...that guy was a giant tool. He absolutely turned me off to the school so hard. He spent all interview telling me I wasnt qualified because I wasnt a bio major.

I was SO annoyed after the interview... turns out I got an acceptance...but because of this guy I'm highly skeptical about whether I want to attend or not.

Will be withdrawing my accpetance this week, hopefully it will benefit someone on this thread!

Same here, withdrawing my acceptance as well. Cool school, and I think it could make me a really good physician, but just too far from home for me, and a bit worried about the rotation sites. (I asked about them in my interview and they were pretty vauge) I second the creepy clowns on the 3rd floor WTF? anyway hope I can open up a spot for someone who really wants to go here.

So has anyone looked into housing yet? I know its kinda early, but just want to know what people's general impressions of certain complexes were.
Only 8 months til July 😀

Hey everyone, I don't think I've posted on this thread yet but I just received an interview invite. They said they would email me later on a date. YAY!!! I love waking up to good news 😀

Got the same email this morning! So they will send an email of our interview date? There is no portal that we can schedule ourselves?

Hey, congrats! Mind telling us when you were complete?

Thanks!

i'm waitlisted at lecom-bradenton and i'm trying to increase my chances of getting in....
i think my mcat and cumulative gpa are fine but that my science gpa is a little lacking

i calculated that if i take a couple more classes, i can increase my overall science gpa by about .15. do you guys think that will increase my chances of getting in off the waitlist? the new grades won't come out until mid feb.

also, would i send in the updated transcript to lecom or to aacomas? thanks!

hah I should have figured someone would ask me this...
I applied Oct 27th and was complete that day too I guess. Got the invite today.

hey..does anyone know, if waitlisted, who to email to show continued interest in the school? (i.e. just admissions office or someone on the commitee--like Dr. Kruegger, if he's on it)? Thanks!

Annette or Ron Shively....just keep calling and good luck!

I am a first year and sat on a waitlist for about 3 months before i got accepted. Just keep the admissions committee updated on everything RELEVANT (new grades, publications, honors etc). The waitlist does move just be patient and keep working hard.

If you have any questions in regards to the waitlist or anything else LECOM-Bradenton feel free to message me.

Well if you are not able to defend your qualifications you don't belong in medical school. Besides you sound a bit pretentious anyway, and should be honored that "tool" recommended you for acceptance. Go ahead idiot, CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE

just called this morning and found out i was accepted!!!! 😀😀i really thought my interview went pretty badly so im soooo happy right now!! i interviewed on the 10th. it feels so good to know you're definitely going to be going to med school next year!!! congrats to everyone else thats already in and good luck to those interviewing soon!!!

Lets try to be supportive of our fellow applicants. No interview is fun, no matter how laid back and conversational it is. This negativity and hostility is just simply not cool. Constructive criticism is better than calling someone pretentious and an idiot. And this is your first post, BALLZDEEP? Classy.

Those types of interviews happen and one just has to remember to stay cool, calm, and collected to show them you can do the same in school under pressure. You get better at dealing with those types of people with each interview. It's sad he turned you off of the school because of that...

Accepted this morning! I am ecstatic! Looking forward to meeting the rest of class!

Waitlisted? Whatever, it was one of my first interviews. It really made me start to prepare for my interviews properly and assume all of them are going to be confrontational (though none have been since). I think what blew it was a remark that explicitly questioned my devotion to D.O. when I applied to 20 MD schools. Also they got personal and asked me to explicitly explain my family situation that led to my weak performance freshman year (even though I had alreadly went over it generally, they wanted more details which is a really painful thing to discuss) or how I retook O-chem to get A's when I got a C the first time (implied cheating - i've been asked this elsewhere but with these guys it was their skeptical tone and demeanor that gave their thoughts away). In the end, this interview woke me up and helped me do much better at other interviews. I felt an overwhelming unwelcome sentiment that has been echoed by others who have interviewed there but i'm just not gonna go there.

I won't be taking the WL position. I don't regret spending $ for this interview and flying half-way across the country, I got a chance to visit relatives in Tampa, prepare for my interviews at much better schools and made up for the $ spent on the trip by winning at the Hard Rock in tampa hours before my flight home. Finally, I don't think I can deal with a school that has just 1 building and no faculty, it feels empty and those clowns were creepy. it's just not for me.

Finally to put things into perspective, I have pretty decent stats for DO, been invited to interview at all schools applied to so far, interviewed at top 15 MD (first choice). I also interview pretty well (atleast I've been told), am very cool calm and collective but I guess I just couldn't deal with the attacks on my character

I didn't know multiple buildings in a medical school makes someone a good doctor. I guess that makes sense...sorry, no, not really. No faculty? Did a ghost interview you? When I interviewed, there was a professor of anatomy and a osteopathic physician. I can agree with you about the clowns but making that one of your reasons is a bit petty. What if you had to give immediate treatment to a person dressed in a clown outfit, an emergency at a circus perhaps? "Umm, sorry no...he creeps me out. Please transfer him."
