LECOM - Erie Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone gotten their letter yet? I can't take the suspense! :xf:

Not yet. Just stopped home to check my mail a few minutes ago. Tommorrow will only be a week so I am thinking probably by the end of the week. The excitement is killing me too!!

I think most of us on the 25th did fine. Good luck and glad to see you joined SDN.

The hardest part will be when some of you receive letters and other who interviewed the same day haven't. Just relax and your time will come to be accepted. Getting accepted was pretty much the greatest feeling I've ever experienced

Yea I am. I just graduated from the University of Arkansas this spring. Are you from Arkansas? I like Erie so much better than Fayetteville

Yes, my name is on the the sidewalk!!!! (For those who don't know, University of Arkansas puts your name in the sidewalk once you graduate. It's a longstanding tradition that seems odd but it is really cool to see all the names of those who graduated from there. My name ironically is in front of the building where I took my first class my freshman year.)

Why do you like Erie so much better? I thought it was a great place when I visited and it felt like Fayettteville.

just got the interview invite - anyone going to be there on 10/1?

I just got my letter an hour ago, and...

I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!! 😀

Anyone else hear yet??? This is so exciting!!!

Hey! Congrats on what must be one of the first acceptances of the 2010 app. cycle!

I just got my interview invite for 10/2. Let me know who else is going, and good luck to those expecting letters soon!

When was the letter postmarked? Since I am from Utah it may be an extra day or so for me. I was in the same interview group with you so I hope we all have the same fortune as you!

Yeah, I'm in Chicago so I hope I'll be hearing tommorrow, considering Becca323 is in PA, even though I am leaving tommorrow for my NSU interview. Try not to let that hang on my mind until I get home!!

🙂 interview invite
ii:9/1
i:10/22

cool. i'm a little worried about the group interview thing. let's be nice to each other , mkay? 😀

haha i agree. i will be nice. group interviews would be kinda weird. Although there have been a couple posts on here about the group interviews just being an experiment for the first interview group. We shall see.

I got my acceptance letter yesterday too 😀 I scared my neighbors when I opened it - I was jumping around and screaming like a crazy person 😛

The matriculation fee is due October 1st, so evidently LECOM is *not* giving accepted students until mid-December like the AACOMAS guidelines state - They're using their 30-day schedule for it. I'm sending in my payment today to secure my spot - I know I won't be interviewing anywhere else before October 1st, and I can't afford to lose it.

yeah, i'm hoping it's just an experiment... maybe others who have interviewed here will chime in? I don't think I'd mind the group thing, but I just feel like I express myself better one-on-one. :lame:

and i can imagine what might happen when you get a bunch of over-anxious, neurotic pre-meds in one room together

Whoa... not cool. This goes against what they put in the College Info Book on the AACOMAS website, which says you have until December 14th. I would call the admissions office. There have been enough hiccups in the process from what you and the Bradenton applicants have been posting (mostly due to an overhaul of the computer system all Erie campuses share) that I'm guessing this is an error.

Apart from that... congratulations on your acceptance!

Congrats on the acceptance. I love it here. It's an underrated school IMHO. Call up Amy Rowe and ask her about the deposit. I bet they will say something different.

My name will be on the senior walk next May. I am pretty excited about that. I think Erie has more stuff to do on the weekends. The bars are ridiculously cheap and they are much more fun than Dickson St. I felt like Erie was more like my hometown I grew up in (Omaha, Nebraska) then Fayetteville. The weather is much better here too. It's not over 95 and humid everyday. Anything specific you wanna know about the school?

I just got my letter, accepted into the LECOM class of 2014!!!

How long after your applications were complete did you guys get interview invites?

My invite came less than a month after I submitted my secondary, and I actually received it almost a month before my letters were received by LECOM (They didn't receive *any* of my letters until the day before the interview! My pre-medicine committee procrastinated on writing them thinking that nobody would start getting secondaries until August or September...)

I got an invite approx. one week after I submitted my secondary (maybe 8-9 days). I submitted my secondary in mid-August.

Congrats!!! It's awesome here and we have a great class that gets along very well. We also help each other out a lot and we get help and review materials from the second years. I (and others in my class) will make sure we pass these materials on to your class. Are you gonna start up a facebook group?

I got my letter today, I am on the alternative list for 2014 (waitlisted). Kinda bummed 🙁

Does anyone plan on calling admissions to see how strict they are for having the deposit by October 1st? I thought it was December 14th. Please let me know if anyone finds something out.

That is awesome that so many people have gotten accepted so far. I did the interview in mid-July and got the letter a week later as well. I called up then and asked about the October 1st deadline and they said it was firm. I did have over two months to decide at least. I can't wait to see everyone next July.

how much is the matriculation fee?

edit: nm i think i just found it, its $1500.... thats no joke! gotta think long and hard about holding spot.

I got in as well!!! Glad to know I am going to medical school next year!!👍

Yep - It's $1,500, which is pretty steep. It was my first choice school though, so I'd been putting money back for it in case I got accepted.

After interviewing at LECOM, it quickly became one of my top choices and I am excited to be part of the 2014 class!

I also got accepted for the class of 2014. Kind of upset about the October 1st deadline, and I saw one of the above posts say they called and the school wont budge on it.

Not that I cant see myself attending here, but since it is so early I have only seen LECOM and Nova so far, I want to be able to evaluate other schools.

The october 1st deadline has really thrown a monkey wrench into my application process. While I liked LECOM very much, I would still like to evaluate other schoold and have a chance to interview and visit before making a final decision.... unfortunately it does not seem like LECOM will budge on their deadline. although it does say under the aacomas traffic guidlines that accepted applicants are suppose to have until dec. 15th to make their final decision. any thoughts on any way to handle this situation... i would just hate to end up losing 1500 dollars

I just got an invite to interview with LECOM. Very exciting. However, It looks like I might be part of the second or third round of interviews since some of you have already had interviews, and even acceptances. Congrats, by the way.

I do have a question though. I was scheduled to interview Oct. 8, but I have an interview with KCOM on the 9th. Tight. How long does the interview day go for LECOM? I will need to buy a ticket on the 8th after the Erie interview in order to quickly get to Kirksville, take a quick nap and look fresh and energized for my interview on the 9th. Yikes!

I know last year that AACOMAS said most schools generally follow the guidelines of December 15, but they didn't have to. I'm not sure how it is this year. It sucks having to lose a deposit, but what's $1500 in the grand scheme of things? Also, what would happen if this was after Dec 15th and you only had 30 days while still attending interviews? 30 days should be long enough to decide on a school. Sorry to sound like a d*ck but a lot of ppl would kill to be in your spot this early in the game. Most of the ppl in my class didn't get accepted until after the middle of January. Imagine not knowing if you will be going to med school next year for 4 more months. The wait is the worst

Our day started at 8:00AM and ended at 1:00PM after lunch (There was an optional PBL presentation that ran from 1:00PM to 2:00PM if you were interested.)

I agree that 1500 dollars is simply a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. If I had 30 days to decide after december 15th I would be more than thrilled because schools would have had over 4 months to review my application and give me a decision. At this point however some schools have not even started giving out interviews or have just started giving out interviews for end of september which means that I will not find out their decision post the october 1st deadline.

You present a very valid point but all im saying that it is so early in the application process that we should be given a little more time to decide.

My take on the matter is that they felt like the applicants who applied to LECOM really early on were genuinely interested in attending the school if accepted (Kind of like an unofficial early decision type of deal.) Then again, it seems like they're breaking all the norms this year, what with the early interviews/acceptances and surprising their interviewees with group interviews.

I agree LECOM is going about things quite differently this year. After talking to some of my friends who are either just finishing secondaries (and even some who are submitting Primary apps this week), I like my position. I would rather pay $1500 knowing I will be able to attend a good school next year than still anxiously checking my email everyday for invite, etc. Its a price you have to pay to be in a pretty sweet position. I will be mailing my $1500 next week and eating cold cereal for the next few months.

The weather can play a huge role in your plans. I spent 12 hours in an airport once and missed an important meeting!!! Make sure to book the earliest flight that you can possibly book just in case you need to hop on a later flight. Good luck!!!

I just wish we would have know ahead of time. I would have pushed my interview date back some. I have done that for other schools. Another school I interviewed at let me know to be aware that the money will be do within two weeks of an acceptance, so I knew that going in. A lot of this whole game is strategy and that change in date without early notice threw me off.

Yah I know how you feel. I decided to hold off on Touro interviews b/c of their 2 weeks deposit time. 30 days is a little more manageble for me but yeah I would've liked advance notice too for this school. But at the same time I would love to have an acceptance here or somewhere already! Congrats:luck:

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know that if you are interviewing and need a place to stay for the night, you can look me up on couchsurfing.com (Annie Griswold - Erie, PA) and request to sleep at my house.
I am a first year at LECOM and live with 3 other first years.

Hope this helps and makes it a little less expensive/stressful experience!

Haha what's up Annie? I bet you could quickly realize who I am. I was the one who distracted one of you lab partners the other day while your group was reviewing the heart.
