LECOM Erie Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They sent me a rejection letter almost immediately after cashing my check. Talk about money $@%#. Well, if they didn't like my stats, why sent me secondaries? Not to mention it's the shortest secondary ever, and the office staff said, "we sent you secondary which means we like you". What the...?

Sorry to hear that... I'm guessing there is a red-flag in your app??? Not sure, make sure you check everything...

Anyone else interviewing on 9/9 ? I am super excited ! I noticed that we are going to have a group interview. Does anyone know how many people are going to be in each group ?

I'll be there on the 9th too! At the LECOM-B interview there were six in the group interview, but I don't know if it will be similar at Erie.

I've got an Oct 14th interview. I know it's very difficult to determine but does anyone know the rough percentage of those interviewed who get accepted? Good luck to everyone!

Last I saw, roughly 33% get accepted vs interviewed.

There were about 8 people in a group at Erie.

Waitlisted from the 8/19 interview

27O, 3.95 overall, 3.95 science. Thought the interview went well, but I was the only one in my interview that hadn't gradated yet. Up against some tough competition!

I was in your group, too (I'm almost positive), and I haven't graduated, either. This makes me nervous!

I was in your group as well, i was one of the 2 guys in the group sitting to the left of the interviewers. I received my acceptance last thursday 25O, 3.59 overall, 3.48 science.... you will be fine! I doubt the graduating has anything to do with it. I'm assuming they re-review your file and make a decision since I doubt they grasped much from the interview since we basically just asked them questions for an hour.

So just curious...

What kind of envelope does a LECOM-E acceptance letter come in?

normal sized envelope... was worried when it wasnt some big envelope but no worries, it only contains like 5 pages worth of info, so no need for a bigger envelope

Thanks. That would have worried me too.

I think you did just get a disgruntled student...
I'm currently a 3rd yr and have been very happy for the most part.
Truthfully... those are the very reasons I chose LECOM... The kid's BIGGEST beefs with the school were:
1- dress code... it's not so bad that people look and feel professional on a med campus
2- badges... really? they're upset that they have to scan into the building? I have 2 badges alone for the hospital im rotating at. identification is a way of life
3- gym hours... its open 5a till 10p... that's unreasonable? and it's a GORGEOUS gym
4- places to eat... Erie actually has pretty decent food, and an AMAZINGLY cheap cost of living.

My point:
they didn't complain about the education pathways, they didnt complain about board prep/pass rates, they didnt complain about an overt gunner attitude. The person was reaching for bad things. That to me is the sign of a good school. When you have to dig for a negative, it cant be all that bad. Take people's asinine critiques with a grain of salt.

Edit: wow, I'm a few pages behind... anyway, when on your interview, take the little complaints as a good sign that they're struggling to find something to complain about.

GL to you all!

Wow, waitlisted with those stats?

So how is Erie in regards to the winter? I'm from South Florida so not much snow here (actually... it never snows. <0.00001%). Anyways, what I mean is how is it driving in Erie? Are the roads maintained? do many of the locations where students live have garages? Are chains on the tires a necessity?

In short terms... is it bearable for someone who isn't from up north? lol

Thanks!

Erie is the 6th snowiest non-mountain city in the country. They average about 80" of snow a year. Yes, they have plows to clear the roads, yes you are expected to attend class when it snows, yes it will snow, no you may not have a garage, no you probably won't need snow chains, and yes you will probably hate it 🙂

i can't comment on Erie but I'll give you the perspective of someone who grew up in LA and moved to Michigan to attend my undergrad...it gets DAMN COLD (at worst I had to walk to class in -15 degree cold), very rarely do schools close up...I drove up to michigan and most of the time the roads are cleared and fine to drive on without chains...on days when it snowed massively it can be rough for a while...i definitely didnt hate it cuz it kept me in the library studying for the mcat lol

Has anyone seen this before on LECOM-B application status:"Your file will be re-reviewed by the Admissions Committee in 60 days." I did call on Friday asking the status of my application because it was taking awhile. Do you think they would put me in the penalty box?

I'm confused because I have an interview scheduled with LECOM Erie.

Same here, I also got "60 day re-review" status after I contacted them about my application status. I even got one rejection from one school after receiving 6 interview invites in succession. The rejection letter simply stated my application was no longer being considered.

I still didn't get a secondary email... =[

If you didn't get a secondary email, you can email them. I had at least a handful of schools that I contacted to get their secondary application. :luck:

Email their admission office and ask for a secondary?

August 26th interview group....

I GOT ACCEPTED!

28R, 3.9 GPA, and sooooooo happy!

Thanks for all of the help studentdoctor.net and everyone who contributes!

Has anyone else out there been under review for a REALLY long time? I was complete on 7/8, and still have yet to hear from the school...if you're "on hold," do they send you an email notifying you of that?

I'm in the same boat as you, haven't heard a thing. Fairly frustrating. Even when I called in a few weeks ago to see if there was progress being made they couldn't tell me anything more.

What is the gpa minimum? I got rejected stating that I didn't meet it but I dont know what it is?

on the AACOM info page, there is no "formal" minimum GPA, but it says that competitive applicants have a 3.4+. i haven't actually looked at the school's website today. hope this helps, sorry to hear about your rejection. i'm still in limbo myself.

To be honest, I think the snowfall average at LECOM's location is more like 100", since it is several miles inland and higher in elevation than the downtown area. South of I-90, it snows like crazy (130+ average).

Last year, Erie had ~100".... The average is ~80. I looked it up... I live in MN, last year we had ~80", it was a record for Minneapolis/St. Paul... Remember, the stats I looked up are for Erie, at the airport because that's the official measuring spot... Beyond that, the other areas could get more/less, I'm just saying the reported/recorded average is ~80" Which is a pretty fair amount of snow for a non-mountain town... By contrast, Breckenridge ski resort measured 506" which is 42'....

Thats what I thought to but getting such a quick rejection makes me feel like they just took my money and ran. My mcat was higher then their average and my post bacc gpa was 3.5. maybe im just bitter but there is no way any human eyes ever looked at my application.

I don't know how LECOM looks at it but I know some schools focus on ur undergrad GPA over other GPAs

seriously their application status is harder to figure out then a humanities verbal passage. How hard is it to tell me where I stand in the app process. I've got "x"'s next to missing letters but it says not to send letter until an interview invite is sent out...it looks like a 3rd grader made the website

ACCEPTED TO LDP!!!!!!!! 8/26 Group Interview stats: 3.76 cGPA, 3.70 sGPA, 24O MCAT
thank you to SDN for the ultimate support throughout the admissions process. best of luck to everyone else!!!

The average for Erie is 89" according to this NOAA source

Now I just need to figure out the HPSP stuff 😕

Hope to hear you receive an acceptance, too. I was actually one of the few hands that raised when the financial aide presenter discussed the HPSP. I am leaning towards the air force 🙂

Awesome! I was surprised how many people raised thier hands for considering HPSP. Well if you ever have any questions about the AF feel free to send them my way..even if I am not positive on the answers, I can find someone who is! Air Force is definitely the way to go (in my competely biased opinion 🙂)!

I just emailed them to withdraw my application. I had an interview scheduled for Sept 23, so if anyone wants to take my spot/ reschedule their interview for that day, you should email them now!

Thanks! I am sure I will have many questions as I sort through this whole thing. Keep us updated on your LECOM status.
