Lincoln Memorial DeBusk (LMU-DCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still waiting for Accomas to be verified. I wonder if they can see it after it is verified without my MCAT score?

To the best of my knowledge, they can still see it. It just won't be marked as complete until your MCAT score comes. Or at least that's what happened with a couple of my friends when they applied - the admissions committee could still look at everything but didn't move forward until the score was received.

by "complete" email you guys mean supplemental received right?
this is my #1 school and hoping for some god news soon

I believe complete email means that everything including your secondary, MCAT, and letters are in, and the app is ready for a review.

i got one the same day i submitted the secondary (7/10) and says "you will be contacted if selected to interview"
just curious if this is what you guys got too or if it's something else.

It's also on the official schedule, which can be found via the dcomdo.com website.

Found the calendar, and yes it appears to be the 21st as the first interviews, with interviews only on Fridays through the Fall. However I can't imagine they actually use the 21st for interviews, being as it is 8 days away now with not a single II.

Maybe there have been II but not everyone is on SDN to report.

Also, DCOM is horrible with communication. So its possible they just are late in telling people things.

I don't know if I agree with that. Sorry if you have experienced some poor communication, but they are usually pretty good to communicate. A type personalities such as medical students just expect too much instant feedback and information. Out of the thousands of individuals that apply to DCOM (and every medical school) only about 15-25% are active SDN members. Just because no one on here has said they have an interview, doesn't mean interviews have not been extended. It will happen, people will start to hear word for interview invites soon.

Congrats on the early II! Will you be part of the group on the 21st? Would you mind sharing your stats by the way either here or through a PM?
Nope, I live on the opposite side of the country so I needed a little more time to set up my travel. My interview date is September 18th. 3.5/3.6, 28. Published research, lots of volunteering and I was born and raised in a rural medically undeserved area.

Senpai, notice me!!

*to be fair I'm a current DCOM student, but I feel like that statement summarizes these threads every year.

Apparently interviews are next Friday. We have our first block exam a week from Monday so it might be a little hectic if you come

Anyone coming in for an interview and has questions PM me. I'm happy to help. I remember what it was like when I was in your shoes!!

People have slipped through the crack at times. I was one of them. When I applied a couple years back, I didn't receive word of an interview after 2-3 months. I called and found out I was offered it, and because I waited so long my interview was so late in the cycle (March/April).

I think it is fair to call the school after a 1 month of waiting (September onward that is). Otherwise, one may be one of those that fall through the cracks and never know.

For those of you who have interviews scheduled for here already, how long after your completed application email did you receive an interview invite? This is my number one choice school, so I'm quite on edge about it all haha.. I just like knowing an estimate, so I can start to move things around in my schedule and plan.

I would say if you don't hear back in say... 3 weeks after being complete, you should call. I waited considerably longer, and saw that other people had to call for interviews. Don't panic and start putting money down for Master's program applications. They may not have gotten around to making the call yet. For our class, there were about 21 applications for every spot they gave out. Applications are up across the board. Another school I applied to had a 38% increase and had to close the app process down right around Thanksgiving. Show them that you want it and are interested, but don't be overly in their face. It's a large volume for them to handle, and since it's a younger school, they're still getting the hang of things. 🙂

Still waiting to be verified here. Does LMU have a history of interviewing anyone before they took their scheduled MCAT?

I don't have my MCAT, and I haven't received any verification.

dont think any school does that except carribean. maybe i misinterpreted your question though.

I guess I should ask the question, will my application be verified before my MCAT is submitted? or do I have to wait till ACCOMAS receives it to be verified?

ii! So grateful 🙂 Just got the email this morning, about to pick the date based on car rental logistics

what's the best airport to fly into?

II this morning. Have to email or call to book the interview!

K guys August 28th I booked mine for! 10 hour drive on the 27th...

Same for me. And I just drove 9 hours to ACOM and back last week.

Also on a related topic does anybody use rental cars to get to their interviews? My car is definitely not an economy car....

Sometimes Knoxville is cheaper than Tri-cities, and sometimes Tri-cities is cheaper than Knoxville. Knoxville or Tri-cities, you are looking at a 1 - 1.5 hour drive (depending on your foot) no matter which one you come into. Rentals are easier to get too in Knoxville than Tri-cities. You will just have to look and see. If you don't mind driving ~3-4 hours after your flight, you can fly into Nashville or Louisville.

Congrats everyone!! I'm still waiting to take my MCAT in september and for my application to be verified. I'm getting nervous since interviews are being sent out.

For those of you interviewing on the 28th, Priceline currently has an Express Deal for the Sleep Inn in Middlesboro which is 9 minutes from campus for $77 a night. It's usually $97, so check it out. It doesn't tell you the name of the hotel before you buy it, but I just purchased it and found out that that was the hotel. The link is below if you're interested. Hopefully it works.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. You will have your MCAT back by October and plenty of time to have an interview and potentially get accepted. They do interviews all the way up to April.

Unless you are flying from England or a far distant country with an extremely different time zone, you should be perfectly fine with the 1.5 hour drive following your flight. Just rest on the plane and grab yourself a big gulp with your favorite caffeinated beverage and you will be fine. Besides, the drive is very pretty and should keep you engaged enough to stay awake.

I would highly recommend doing your best to attend the dinner the night before your interview. You will be meeting with current 2nd years who will give you insight into the life of a medical student, what to expect during your interview and how to do your best in the interview. It will certainly help to calm any nervousness you may have. DCOM is very relaxed. If you got an II, you are already acceptable on paper, they now want to see what type of individual you are in person and if you will mesh well with the mission of DCOM and its targeted student body. If you cannot make it to the dinner, don't panic, there is absolutely no weight on it and you still just have as much chance of getting in as someone who did attend.

That sounds like fun, what is the dress attire? Can you bring a spouse?
