LIU c/o 2025

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for the support but this was a shoot your shot one time thing 🙂 I’m a non-traditional applicant and have a full time career that I’m satisfied with. And the more I think about it, the scarier it is to abandon my income and return to school. So I’ve made peace! And happy for those who will treat all my pets when I own 15 dogs and cats 🙂
I’m not sure your age or circumstances but you could always try again if you want, even if it’s not next year. If you want to work with animals you could always go to tech school and work and try applying for vet school in the future 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m a recently graduated engineer. Money is really nice lol.

I just got an email that I was accepted as well! However, I will be declining my OOS seat since I’ve already committed to my IS.
Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back! 😊
I don’t think they distinguish between IS and OOS but thanks for the update!!

Crying a little for myself but congrats if you wanted in!!
I'm disappointed to hear they've sent out acceptances, too. But I'm still holding out a tiny bit of hope considering they may have sent out offers to people who have already committed to other schools 🤞🤞

Yes! And that definitely happens because people don’t contact schools to let them know they are no longer interested which makes it more difficult on the school and more stressful on the people who are interested

Thank you for sharing this, it helps me keep the hope alive! Congrats on your acceptances 🙂

Does anyone think it’s worth it to send an email questioning if we got it? Or a place on WL? Or general chances?
I was thinking of doing the same, but from what I can tell they're right in the middle of sending out acceptances as people either accept or decline their offers, so I figure it makes more sense just to wait it out for now. If you can't stand waiting any longer (which I would understand), then I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to ask. Worst case scenario you get no reply, or a vague reply.

My guess is they sent out offers earlier today to “fill” the class and sent out the official waitlist notifications after that

Just got a waitlist email. I accepted a seat elsewhere and will be letting them know now.

Waitlisted...now I really have my hopes up lol.

I want to email inquiring about rank but I don’t want to be annoying 🥴

If anyone got into both Ross and LIU, which did you choose and why? I got accepted into both and do not know which I should attend. If anyone is in the same predicament I would love to know!

A recently graduated engineer is not non traditional really. U are most likely still young. I graduated with an engineering degree over 3 years ago.

Honestly, if you can’t find a reason for one over the other in their veterinary program, think about personal reasons like weather, location, cost. I’m not in this position but that’s what I’d consider if I could find anything in one academic program to make it better to me

Thank you for getting back to me. I have thought about it all and I am stuck in the middle. Are you currently in LIU or are you going in the fall?

Thanks for the feedback!! I would say I am a non-traditional candidate based on my own personal experience. I did mention I was young too in my previous post! My vet experience comes primarily from working in research for vetmed pharma companies. I also have an entire career within the human pharmaceutical industry now. It’s interesting that you have an engineering background. My degree is chemical and had to add most of the pre-reqs to apply to vet school to my curriculum (another thing that makes me non traditional, in my eyes. These classes were a huge deal for me to add, even bio1!!). I think you’ve had a bit of trouble understanding your peers in this community have their own experiences, so it would be appreciated if you could acknowledge my experience as my own, without comparisons to yours 🙂

Are you going to LIU vet med?

For everyone that got the official waitlist email, do we think anymore offers will be sent this weekend if they open or not until Monday?

Excuse you? What do you mean. I was trying to connect to you and let you know that there is still hope and you dont have to give up if you don't want to. I just said its not really non traditional as some are like 40 and just getting into vet school. There is no need to bring up my connection to anyone. I have not had trouble connecting to my peers infact many people here talk to me constantly. I only had an issue with one person who was constantly complaining.
I do not know where I am going yet. I have made my depsoite to liu but still waiting on waitlist at Cornell.

There is nothing wrong with people trying to connect to you by showing similarities, its not a comparison or a lack of understanding thing. Idk what your problem is. Geez im so done with this forum.

P.s your sarcasm isn't needed, also sorry I dont rememebr your age , I dont keep track of everyone on here.

Did you put a deposite for both? The number one thing literaloy every vet has told me is choose the school with the least amount of debt for you.

THIS!!!!! If it comes down to being the last distinguishing difference, go with this logic. If there is something that is more important to you, then go with that. There's definitely a lot to consider about the debt - tuition, fees, cost of living, etc.

Yes I put a deposit down for both. I have also heard that from a veterinarian. Thank you for replying back!

I’m not sure the tuition difference or for sure this cost of living, but I think I can assume liu cost of living will be higher!

The other thing I'll say about Ross is I believe they have a shorter program its like 3.25 years instead of 4 ? And then they do clinical rotations or something like that. With Ross also being in a different location thats another thing to consider , if you can handle the culture and environment . But Ross tuition is like 20k, because they REALLY need vets on that island lol. So they really want people to go there. Where as liu is like 55 k. So thats something huge to keep in mind honestly. Like I dont think I'd be able to move that far away personally like even liu seems far to me and its only a few hours? But damn you'd be saving on debt .

I think Ross does summer semesters so they do 3 semesters a year!!

Yup thats how my undergrad was. Trimesters. But it still took 4 years 🤣🤣 to many classes.
Arent trimesters like that usually shorter with less classes allowed? These are like 3 full semesters

Has anyone who was waitlisted heard anything from them today?

The total tuition at Ross is over $200k, plus there’s the significant cost of travel and a higher cost of living because everything is imported. If it comes down to finances alone, Ross probably isn’t the way to save money.

LIU tuition is over $220,000 total ($56,000 per year) and the lowest rent I’ve seen for places around liu is $1000 if you’re lucky and if you look around Ross (I did a quick search) you can find stuff around $800 a month so monthly rent would be cheaper. The biggest difference would be the travel costs of getting there with everything else seeming to be cheaper. It’s a lot of comparing and seeing where the differences are and how they balance out

Financial aid officer at lou had said the average loan takeout for liu students is 80k so that's over 320k in debt. It looks like on campus housing at Ross is only 2k per semester for 3 bedroom where as liu is 8k for 3 bedroom a semester plus meal plan which is another 3k . So sure it might cost an extra couple hundred bucks to fly home , but jt would cost that much to fly home for someone who does live in NY area anyways. Not sure where op is from. Let's say California. That's going to be a good chunk of money as well. Btw off campus apartments in long island are over 1.5k a month for a STUDIO/ one bedroom if lucky.
