Hey, I don't know if this has been discussed yet in this thread, but were you all aware that this is the first year they made the program NOT invite only? So they could be taking a long time because they have such an overflow of applicants for the program this cycle in comparison to previous years.

Are you sure about that? I called and spoke with a faculty member who helps run the program a few weeks ago and she said it was still invite only. She said applicants are selected from students that applied to the medical school or dental school and were denied. She said applicants are invited because the school felt they would be a good fit but needed a little work on their apps.

Also, have you heard anything about the class size if it's now open to anyone? In the past the class size was about 40 students.

Wow I definitely didn’t know it wasn’t invite only. I just called and they said everyone will hear back by June 1. If you applied priority that just means your application will be looked at first.

lol I just want them to hurry up and make their decision on my app. Cause I’m honestly looking to see their agreements with their Med school.

I’m really not trying to give up home state residency for nothing. If this makes any sense Lolol

I’m such a terrible procrastinator. The cost is what made me not want to apply, but if it’s invite only then maybe I have a chance of getting in?

You sure? I have some friends who have yet to get invites and admissions told me it’s still invite only this week. Maybe they’re wrong? Where did you get the info?

Well I think that it’s probably a mix because there were some people who received invitations who didn’t apply this cycle

Is there anyone else who didn’t apply this cycle besides me? I was asking initially because I was trying to see something but I think I figured it out and believe now for sure that it’s still invite only.

It’s still invite only program.

How did you come to this conclusion ?

So this makes what some people said the admissions staff were saying. They likely got around 6000-7000 med school apps, and maybe sent the MHS Program app to around 5000 people and actually got ~5000 apps for MHS.

5000 apps is a lot!! And I think MHS usually only takes like 50 people.

They saw something in each of us when they reviewed our applications into med school and dent school. The only requirement to receive an invite was to put in those applications. So it doesn’t matter what cycle we applied. Perhaps they are trying to fill the class for MHS and have to review applications from the other graduate programs as well. They may be a bit behind. We have to remain positive about the situation and trust the process. We are going to get in. I believe it and I’m putting it in the atmosphere!

I think it’s invite-only, too, but I can’t prove it. ‍

I’ve been stalking this post for weeks because I’m new to SDN, and, though I’m confident in my chances, I won’t put all my eggs in one basket. I was invited to Morehouse’s Masters interview yesterday and was shocked. It’ll work out for all of us in the end.

Hey guys!
So I just called the admissions office. The man that I talked to seemed very knowledgable and wasn't struggling to answer any of my questions. I applied to the dental school and have yet to hear back from them after I submitted my supplemental app back in September. He told me that not receiving a rejection was a good sign and that I could still be considered for the dental class as well as the MHS. He asked if I was interested in the MHS class and I eagerly said yes. He wrote my name down and said that I would be put on a list of people who were actually interested in the MHS program. I asked him if I should go ahead and apply to the MHS program. He said that the medical and dental school routes were different. Dental school applicants are invite only for the MHS program. He told me to save my $60 and just wait to hear back. Good news/bad news? I don't know, but this gives me hope.

You may not know but does this mean that the medical school route is not invite only?

Lol from what the gentleman told him it appears so. The app is open and anyone can apply. So at least for the application we all know it's not invite only.

But as far as who they give preference to.....it makes sense in the medical school side that the people they specifically invited to apply are who they have their eye on. Because they liked our AMCAS applications.

But I also think that this does not mean that the people who randomly applied won't get in. They probably have a chance to get in too but won't have their application expedited unless they met the deadline.

But at the end of the day they know everyone they invited because they have their AMCAS applications from last year.

And apparently the same goes for people who applied to the med school before this past cycle. Maybe they have their older cycle apps.

So I can see why some of the admin have been giving slightly different answers. They probably don't want to repeat the same answer 40x in one day lol.

Too bad we can't pin Post on this thread.

When I Google “Meharry Masters Health Science,” I still can’t find a direct link to the application, so that’s why *I* think it’s still invite for Medical *and Dental. I could be wrong. I also see the FAQ link that says it’s still invite-only.

Since I graduated, Netflix and partying has been my ‘fun.’

Anyway, thanks to all of you who have called, been pro-active, and shared with everyone in the thread. All we can do is be patient.

May 15th is 6 days away.... whatever is meant to be will be because I can’t stress this because whatever the outcome it’s gonna be somewhat bitter sweet. At least for me.

Just to clarify because I spoke admissions and asked for definitive answers.

1. The dental school is INVITE ONLY.
2. The Medical school is not invite only but individuals that they personally invited and those that made the priority deadline will have the upper hand.
3. All decisions will be released June 1st. So May 15th is out of the question.

So let’s live our best lives and wait for June 1st.

Cool. Now I can officially give all my attention to Game of Thrones and binging Shameless

Thanks to everyone who called to help clear things up. At least we know that the invites get first preference. We got until to June 1st. Just kind of plan but go and enjoy life. The weather is getting nice and it's time to enjoy outside. I just got my fin aid for my MPH program.

Y’all we can sit all day and analyze this situation but tbh no one here has a definitive answer. Stay positive, live your life, and wait for the decisions.

My sentiments exactly !!! I’m not tryna add stress ! Im going to just continue to patiently wait until I hear back and keep praying

Submitted today. Not feeling confident lol.

lol I’m just going to act like my email account doesn’t exist until June 1st because my inner voice is telling me we ain’t hearing back until that very last day i just graduated from an HBCU and they operate pretty much all the same
