Midwest Programs...NOT a "help me rank"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The word on the street is that they work you pretty hard there (beware: third hand info). Also, I think there are better IM programs in the city (again third hand info). Otherwise, I also had a nice interview there, was impressed with the facilities and will be including it on my final list (where exactly I haven't figured that out).

Hi,
Interviewed at CCF and fell in love with the place and enjoyed speaking with all of the faculty and residents I spoke with. In regards to work hours, the PD seems to keep a pretty close track of the 80 hr work wk. In terms of quality of IM program, there certainly seemed enough diversity in their patient load, and the morning report BLEW me away. Will definitely be ranking them in my top 3. Anyone else have any thoughts?

i interviewed at CCF. It is a fellow driven place that is 3rd tier in quality of internal medicine residency. just b/c it is in USNEWS highly ranked, that means nothing of the residency training. the fellowships especially cards, are top 5, but the medicine training is low on the list. 3rd tier. that explains why they interview tons of FMGs, they cant get US grads. also, the CCF fellowships programs have no respect for their residents, even though they'll exaggerate the one internal applicant they took 1 year.

Thank you for your input. It certainly adds another dimension to my ranking.

Does anybody have any thoughts on UMKC? I interviewed there last week and really had a good feeling. It seems like a solid program with the potential for excellent cardiology training. Good luck to all in the upcoming match!!!

rush - residents seemed overworked. friend of mine is pgy-1 there and he told me not to rank it (whatever that means to you guys). also lives in the shadow of two chicago powerhouses. nice location. research is poor and residents (pgy-2 or 3) are hard pressed for free time to go to uc or nw.

ANyone have an opinion as to which program is better? Im interested in Cards fellowship. Also can anyone explain the call schedule at these places please. I understood that UIC gives residents 4 days off a month, but that did not necessarily mean weekends. So could you end up with no weekend days off at all?
