Midwestern University c/o 2018 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll be contacting the school today. I just want to know, I don't want to wait around for a letter to know bad news. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

I know that they said that 2018 graduates would be accredited vets, but is there a way to get this in writing? I really liked the school and the area, so even though I have been accepted to other schools in the states, I am so far leaning towards midwestern. I contacted the vmcas and aavma but haven't heard back. Does anyone have more information on this? Thanks!

I am dying of anticipation! Has anyone who interviewed Jan. 20-24 (last week) heard anything?? I have two friends who were accepted less than a week after their interviews and tomorrow will be one week for me. I'm so anxious to hear back, it's killing me!!

hey everyone, i just received an email from one of my interviewers at midwestern giving me some updates, one being that as of now they have extended 104 acceptances. just figured id post that number in case anyone was curious, good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear from them! 🙂

So I called admissions, they said I just had to keep waiting. Not the answer I was looking for:shrug:. It appears the admissions counselors are for all the schools, including the vet school, so I'm not sure they would have the most up to date information since they don't work directly with them. I therefore emailed Krista once again in hopes of getting a response this time since I emailed her a week ago and didn't get a response.

ntorres, I called today too and realized the number I was given is for admissions for every college at Midwestern. The woman was only able to tell me that they had received my fall transcripts. It sounds like the people who were accepted received an email and a call....fingers crossed for both of us!!

Congratulations sblove! I was really impressed by the school. When did you hear from them? They told me they'd probably contact me through email since I live in Germany but nothing yet, no changes in the portal either. Hmmm... I also emailed Krista on Monday but haven't heard anything back. I'm kinda expecting the worst now. 🙁

Anyone else interview on the 16th like I did? Any news?
Thanks! I heard back on the 17 I believe. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

So I didn't get a call OR an email but I guess having called and emailed them made them make a decision about me because... I'm in! I checked the portal and I had both the Matriculation/Payment and Accepted Student Checklist available to me. I feel a little weird that I didn't get any other communication from them but hey, who cares?! I'm going to be a vet!!! :soexcited:

I was just wondering if anyone who has interviewed could give me any information about the style. I am interviewing next Wednesday and was wondering how many people perform the interview, if they will have read my file previous to the interview, if it is relaxed interview or more formal, etc

I got an interview for either Feb 5 or March 5. Feb 5 is going to be hard to figure out with work, but I am afraid if I wait until March 5 I will be just interviewing for the waitlist. Thoughts?
I received an interview invite in mid-December, with interview dates to choose from being 2/24, 2/25, or 2/26 I believe. I chose the 26th, and am a little confused as to why they now have dates earlier that they are letting people choose from- maybe some people who had previously accepted their invite declined later?

Anyway, after reading your post, I started to get paranoid that I may only be interviewing for an alternate spot. So I emailed them and received a reply saying that this would not be the case- they will be extending acceptances out through March. They are planning on accepting more than the 100 students, which the class size is set at, since they know not everyone will accept. And I remember someone posting here previously that they were told by admissions that if more than 100 people accept their offers, they will make it work.

So in conclusion, I think whichever date you choose will be ok! If you're not prepared for Feb. 5, I would go with March...my impatience is making me wish my interview was sooner though! Good luck!

The interview itself is really relaxed, my interviewers (there was two of them) were really personable. I was more nervous about doing a mock interview with my husband than during the actual interview. They had a copy of my application set out and they referred to it when they would ask questions. They, however, stated they did not have my grades or hadn't looked at them, they were mostly looking at the personal statement. Interviewing was easy with them, you can definitely relax a little.

Just wanted to let those of you following this thread know that I declined my offer from Midwestern. So hopefully someone on the wait list will be able to pursue their dream career!!

Hello everyone! I didn't apply to this school, but I live in AZ (I hope I'm in the right spot) and the wildlife center I volunteer at is just finishing putting in their hospital. They plan to eventually make it a teaching hospital, and from my understanding of the program at Midwestern, would be a good place for those interested in wildlife to venture in their final 2 years. It's located in Tucson, but I thought I would share. The hospital looks gorgeous and super well organized as of yet. It'll be officially open in April and they hope to have a live-in vet and tech in the next few years. Good luck everyone!

I just joined this forum. I have 2 questions about MWU, if anyone could help. During the tour, did they take you through the new buildings for the vet school or are they not finished yet? What kind of "random questions" are expected for the interview? thank you

hello 🙂
i went for my interview on january 9th, and during the tour they took us around the campus and then on a bus to see the vet buildings because they were still under construction, so i don't believe you will be able to go inside them. if you go to their webpage you can view live feed for both buildings to watch the progress which is neat. during my interview there really were no "random" questions, they really just stuck to my application. the only thing i noticed among myself and others interviewing that day is that they will ask you something about a weak point in your app probably to see how you answer. for example, i will not have a degree once i begin vet school as i am currently a junior, so they asked me multiple questions regarding that and if i felt i would be prepared for vet school academically. another girl who was there the same day said she had switched majors to be pre-vet halfway school and they asked her about that to see if she was serious about the profession. hope all goes well for you if you have an interview scheduled soon!

Hello all,
I am a long time lurker and a first time poster on here so bear with me!

I am currently on the alternate list for Midwestern. I was curious as to if anyone knows how many people they will put on/are currently on the wait list, how many acceptances have been offered, and how many applicants have committed to Midwestern? Sorry for so many questions I'm just so anxious and can hardly wait until April 15th!!

How did you guys send letters of thank you to your interviewers? Did you email them or send them physical letters?

I wonder what are the chances of being accepted to MWU if you have low GRE and GPA. I have lots of experience and good recommendations, but I wonder if there is any point in applying?

Josievet, you can only be accepted if you apply, so I say go for it!

And to answer the thank you question, I emailed mine.

Josie PM me and I will tell you my stats if you want. I got an II from Midwestern

I can see the accepted student checklist but I'm not sure if it means I'm accepted or waitlisted. Trying not to get too excited...

Most likely you were, the same thing happened to me. I didn't hear anything for a while and then the accepted student checklist became available but I still hadn't heard anything from them. About a day or so later, my admissions counselor emailed me with information and letter saying I had been accepted.

I can't believe this is happening! I'm accepted! To those waiting to hear, just keep obsessively checking your portal because that's how I found out.

Congratulations Sadie!!!! So excited for you! I've been wait listed.. Now playing the waiting game. Best wishes to you!!

Katherine, I did my deposit too!! They sent me an email about orientation, immunizations, titers etc. you can also read about orientation on your portal.

Congrats sadie26 and Katherine! Can't wait to meet you this fall! So excited!

We should start a FB page for the class of 2018. I've looked for one and can't find anything.

Just created a page on FB if anyone wants to join and chat! It's called Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine. 🙂

Congrats sadie26 and Katherine! Can't wait to meet you this fall! So excited!

im excited to meet everyone as well 🙂
does anyone have housing set in stone for next year yet?
its hard coming from so far away to find affordable furnished apartments!

I have applied for on campus housing. Still waiting to hear back, but I don't think the apartments are furnished... I am coming from Colorado so it won't be too horrible to have to move furniture etc.

Looks like I'll be attending Midwestern! I'll be joining the Facebook page shortly.

Hello,
I just interviewed recently and I am just curious if anyone knows how an accepted applicants portal will change vs someone who has been waitlisted, and what each should be able to see on their portal? Just curious! Thanks!!

Vetgirl, I knew my portal changed when I could see the accepted student checklist. I called the next day just to be sure though!

Thank you sadie26! Did your prerequisite checklist upload before you could see the accepted student checklist, or did you see them at the same time?

They popped up at the same time. I didn't apply through vmcas though...not sure if that makes any difference. I think it's a good sign when you can see the matriculation agreement and $1000 deposit options.

Is anyone on here on the alternate list? Any information regarding this list?? Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!!!!

I'm on the alternate list! I don't know if there's much information regarding said list because Midwestern doesn't rank their alternates ugh

When did you interview? Much of what I am reading is saying that they go down the list from the first interviews. I interviewed in February and Midwestern is my number one choice. Trying to not loose hope. I got accepted to Ross University but for the May 2014 class so I do not have much time to wait 🙁 Freaking out a little. How are you handling this?

I interviewed in January. I haven't read anything about that but that is quite scary lol where did you read that information? Midwestern is my first choice too! I also got accepted to Ross for the September class so it seems as if were in the exact same boat haha. It's tough and I've pretty much settled with the idea of attending Ross should I not get pulled off midwestern's list. There's pros and cons to each list but I'm trying to stay positive! We have about a month until we should be hearing so I'm trying to focus on not counting down the days until April 15th! How are you coping?

I was accepted but will be declining my offer soon. Maybe someone from here will get the spot. Goodluck!

I was reading information on the other programs at Midwestern and reading how their acceptance process has been. I am pretty sure it is similar because there is only one admissions committee for all of us. Congrats on Ross!! That is too funny how we are both in the same situation! Haha. Yes, I am going to try to get everything prepared for Ross and hope in the process I hear from Midwestern. I was accepted for this May, so I will be leaving soon if I don't hear. Wondering if anyone has yet to be pulled from the wait list? Or if anyone knows the number of everyone on the wait list? I was thinking of calling tomorrow...

Officially submitted my deposit! Incredibly excited to be a part of this inaugural class :biglove:

Congratulations Klebis! Wooooot!! I'm so excited to be going to Midwestern too!! My interview was Friday 2/21 and found out I was accepeted Tuesday the 25th! I have two bigger dogs. I want to know if its more affordable to live off campus and commute, or apply for on-campus pet friendly apartments. I wonder if the area has pet friendly housing near the campus, with yards? Idk... uugh the deposit is so much 🙁 idk how to come up with the money...
