MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Very confused ... I received a financial aid alert from Rutgers to confirm I will have my bachelors by July 2021 but never got an acceptance? What does this mean lol

Does anyone know what the link to Brown's portal is? I have one link to "myaccount" but it only lets me view my bannerID and change my password. I'm trying to decline my offer and they're making it so difficult!

Hi all, anyone who got into Brown - what's been the highest financial aid/merit aid that y'all have received?

I applied for the dual degree (2/15) but have been told I might need to wait until sometime in April to get a response and with a MPA/MPH dual degree start in early June, I just am really unsure I have enough time to realistically move myself/transition within 2 months. I'm only waiting because it's a dual degree and on the off chance I get a better financial deal than I got from Yale but if it just doesn't seem possible, I may need to really reconsider Brown. Thanks!

For those waitlisted at UC Davis and still want to go, I would recommend following up with the department about why they were waitlisted.

I originally emailed them just to get a general timeline for final waitlist movements, but was also told that they waitlisted me because the admissions committee was unsure if I had completed a pre-requisite and wanted me to reshare my transcripts. This was a course I had taken but was probably missed in the first round of reviews (I blame it on my complicated transcripts!). They then said they would make a note of it and that the committee will reconvene and review all the waitlisted applications again. Final decisions for these individuals will be made by early April!

Appealed my scholarship at BU and asked for a rise. Still going to try to find a full time job (which I know will negate it the scholarship) but that’s too good of a deal to pass up.
What do you mean by negate the scholarship? As in, if you get the full time job then you can not get the scholarship? Or as in you want both a rise in scholarship and a job?

Hi! So I got into NYU, BU, and Emory as well but I didn't apply to Yale so I can't compare there, but I got awards similar to yours to those schools. I will say that Brown gave me the least amount of any school I've heard back to so far, 10% tuition reduction which is almost $5k in merit-based aid per year. I have tried appealing but have been told I can only do so if I have a change in my FAFSA and even then it probably only be a 5% increase. It might be different for you though since you're applying for a dual degree but i'm not sure if it would beat the $60k from Yale.

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful 🙂 I do agree nothing is likely to come close to Yale's offer, but it's pretty hard to also outright say no to a dual degree program as well.

Hey everyone! Just got into UCI for Epi, and was offered 3K scholarship for summer housing. They're sending acceptances slowly, but surely lol. Honestly kind of bothered that I didn't bother applying to any higher schools like Berkeley (or the Ivys) cause of imposter phenomenon getting in the way and ruining my confidence

i posted this yesterday after asking about an appeal:
if anyone is looking to appeal their financial aid package at brown, this is the email i received after checking if it was possible:
" If you want to appeal your aid decision, you can send an appeal with any new information not reflected in your FAFSA data to the Graduate Financial Aid Office at [email protected]. The MPH Program only has small scholarships for higher need students so the scholarship would not increase by more than 5% even if the appeal changes your aid need designation."
so disappointing 🙁

Officially committed to JHU Full-Time MPH and I am ELATED! I never thought of myself as an even moderately competitive applicant, and I still can't believe I'll be attending my dream program. It's been so great to see everyone's accomplishments and the support on this thread. Excited to meet some of you as classmates and colleagues! <3

I'm debating between HSPH and Hopkins! Both for mph 65/full-time. I'm heavily leaning towards Hopkins because got a scholarship that covers 1/3 of tuition (and nothing from Harvard). Harvard was my dream before this application cycle but honestly I like Hopkins better in it's flexibility in curriculum and larger cohort experience - but it's hard to say no to Harvard!
I am almost sure I'm going to accept Harvard's offer. The price is really the biggest downside for me but I can make it work and hopefully it will pay off. Education is always a good investment as they say and I'm hoping the name will help in that regard... The curriculum really excites me and it's simply the best school I got in to. Looking forward to the experience 🙂

yes! If you get a job it’ll take away your scholarship but BU has an excellent deal where you get remissions and have to pay a very small part of tuition (May be 10%? Don’t quote me on that)

Oh very cool! Let me know too, please. I wonder how it will affect our scholarship/financial aid from YSPH though.
Hey! What I’ve heard so far: it’s fairly common for MPH students to apply to the MBA dual program during their first year (and vice versa with MBA students into the MPH program!) and it adds one year onto your degree. If you want to change your concentration, specificqllt over to HCM, you have to apply to the department (new personal statement!) and you won’t lose admission to the original program you were admitted to. Once you start the year, you cannot switch to HCM because of its rigidity compared to other programs!

Does anyone know why the JHU budget includes room and board on my SIS page? I wouldn't be expected to pay that if I'm not living in a dorm room, right?

If you have questions about the program, PM me!

It's an estimated cost. The office of financial aid likes to make assumptions so that students can get a general sense of what it costs to attend considering everything in addition to tuition. Of course, you will not have to pay for room and board if you're going to learn remotely.

Bit the bullet and emailed Columbia about appealing my financial aid package (or lack thereof), and they mentioned merit-based scholarship decisions are on-going until 4/15. I'm guessing they're waiting for students who received aid to reject their admittance offers?

Curious if anyone ever recieved any scholarships from Tulane?
I haven’t received anything. I filled out their aid form maybe 2-3 weeks ago? Haven’t heard anything but will likely decline my seat soon.

can someone please explain to me how a program can cost $38k a year but the max loan offered is $33k? am i just dumb orrrrr lmao
Lol I don’t understand why $33k is the cap for unsub loans. But you can apply for grad PLUS loans through the federal government and borrow the remaining amount up to the cost of attendance (which includes loans and housing etc - the numbers posted on the school’s website). Right now unsub loans have around a 4-5% interest rate. I forget the exact number. And the PLUS loan is somewhere between 5-6%

Does anyone know if the option to apply to the Yale MBA during the second year is more restricted to Health Management/other more related degrees? Is it something that Epidemiology or Biostatistics MPH students apply (and are accepted) to?

Does anyone have any tips for writing a letter of continued interest (LOCI) for waitlisted schools? was thinking of writing one even if it might not have an effect on where I am on the list - I am still appreciative of even having been considered to the extent that I have been so far

I applied for the Pop Mental Health concentration so unsure of the criteria for the general program. A good GPA but lots of projects under my belt during undergrad.

35% off (20% contingent on grades, 15% fafsa).

Has anyone applied to Georgia State or East Tennessee State MPH Programs and heard anything back yet?

I’m not sure about the admissions criteria but Colorado is mysterious. I was accepted over a month ago but I haven’t heard anything since then, no financial aid info, prospective students events, information about the program, nada. I know it’s a smaller/newer program but it’s bizarre to not send out anything at all...

I'm so annoyed by this never ending process.
I don't like how I've made so much effort and achieved quite a lot yet I still feel this way, like vulnerable af bc it's so uncertain what my future will bring going to this one school i pick (and based on what really?). And it's so scary with the opportunity cost of giving up on all the schools i won't be choosing.
I mean it sounds like really greedy and ungrateful but dammmmmn it keeps me awake at 3am.

Brother, I feel you. But if I could offer some advice, I would just say to make a decision that benefits you. No decision is almost always worse than a decision, so even if you aren’t sure, just research and be confident in what you want- it’s not everyday we can say we got in graduate school, and even in a messed up, racist, sexist, capitalist society, we can still do good. It’s okay to have reservations, but just remember that you are capable and competent. I’m here if you need to talk.

Anybody hear back about financial aid from UW SPH (specifically epi) yet? I'm kinda disappointed I haven't gotten any offers yet, but I suppose there's still a month left.

Much love!!
And lmao you're so on point. Racist, sexist, and capitalist still happening and I'm anxious about this! Yep. I can do this.
Another beautiful spring day. ❤️
