It was pretty quiet here today. Hope you guys/girls hear something soon.

Those are decent stats, I would just be patient. Hopefully you were stellar in the extracurriculars/volunteering/clinical experience category of your secondary. If you were, I don't think you'll have any issue getting accepted.

You've gotta chill. I was complete in September. No word until January, when I was put on the high waitlist. Found out I was in late May. There's sooooo much time left - no point in assuming the worst until you know for sure.

Don't give up hope! I had a 25 mcat too. I actually talked to admissions about that and they told me that if the rest of your application is good then a 25 is fine. Personally, I don't think MCAT is weighted that heavily, but thats just my opinion. If your EC's and volunteer hours are good, then stay positive!

I second this...I was actually told by two advisors at msucom that they are mostly concerned with the bio section. I really struggled with the PS section on test day and only scored a 7. I was planning on retaking the MCAT to improve that score and wasn't even going to apply last cycle. One of the advisors actually said "Oh I'm not worried about that, we can at least tell you've taken Physical Science classes."

If your BS score is strong, and your application is otherwise solid, then there's reason to stay confident 🙂

Same here! I was concerned because I took the prereqs in 1994 and also scored 7 in PS.

This school truly looks at the whole applicant and what they can offer. 👍

my application was released to msu on 10/6, and ive received secondaries from every other school I have applied to other than here and one more

i was wondering if i had a a chance of receiving a secondary from them.. and how long does that usually take? its been 2 weeks since they received my primary

i think i have okay extra curriculars, but im worried about my gpa and mcat score which i think may be preventing me from receiving a secondary application

cumm GPA: 3.6
sGPA: 3.37
MCAT: 26P (7V 10B 9P)

i volunteer at an osteopathic hospital.. and currently im working on my masters and working in a lab. i also have a primary authorship publication that was published in 2010

i would really appreciate any advice from anyone about this.. and also am i late in the application process for msu?

Your stats are decent and more importantly your masters, lab work, and osteopathic hospital experience will help you. The 26 MCAT will definitely not hurt you. They're more worried about GPA; specifically, upper level science courses. I've talked to admissions a million times, and I can't tell you how much they emphasize wanting to see a 3.5 or 4.0 in most if not all UL sciences.

As for timing, no point in asking if you're late now! Just get your secondary app process expedited so that you're not waiting too long to submit it. Track down your LOR writers and fill out the secondary form that is available on the MSUCOM website. The sooner the better; they love "early birds." Your secondary may take longer to arrive because it's late, but like I said, be ready for it when it comes and shoot it out ASAP.

Good luck!! 👍

You will definitely receive a secondary. Their MCAT cutoff for a secondary is VR-4, PS-5, BS-6 & composite must be at least 18. Your GPA is fine. MSUCOM screens before they send secondaries unlike the other DO schools, so you don't receive a secondary immediately. It took me about 10 days to get it. Just make sure you try to submit it ASAP because they really emphasize submitting secondaries early. You have good stats, I'm sure you'll get inn somewhere if you put in the right foot.

Does anyone know what the secondary questions are? I would like to start on them now to submit as soon as i get them. Just wondering as the Allopathic schools have them listed and I could not find them here.

Thanks.

It's only half-way through the major part of the cycle. Still another 6-7 major acceptance Wednesdays before they stop for Winter break.

It's not that I'm worried I wont get in... I actually think the rest of my app is great and I have a great shot at getting in, but I've been accepted to other schools and I would like to make a decision soon especially if I'm going to be going to school outside of Michigan. I need ample time to get things in order and I would hate to get everything settled with a different school and have my apartment picked out etc etc only to find out I've been accepted to MSUCOM in May. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm just freaking out for nothing, I'm sure it will all work out.

Describe a personal experience or ethical challenge you have faced that has influenced the development of your character. How has this experience helped you to develop specific skills and/or abilities that are essential to practicing osteopathic medicine? (1 pg. essay)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!
lets hope for next wednesday:xf:

Hi all,
I wrote the MCAT in September and received the score on October 11th.
My app was on hold for awhile waiting for the most recent MCAT score to be sent to MSUCOM, and now that it's released I am anxiously waiting everyday for the secondary! I am seriously going insane, and I know i have to be patient but I am curious how long it would take me to get the secondary, if at all.
My score was not good and it's what worries me too. i got 22N (9P,8B,5V😳..WN), 3.7 cGPA, 3.6sGPA and 600+extra curricular activities.
Do you think I have a chance to get a secondary? I know they set the minimum for all sections- I passed the minimums but knowing that it doesn't guarantee that one will actually receive the secondary so I'd like some kind of feedback from previous acceptance or anyone at all.
Any insights will be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!!

You will definitely receive a secondary. Your MCAT + GPA meet the minimum. I received it ~10 days after I was verified on a Tuesday. Its probably taking longer because its a very busy point in the cycle. Wait until next week, don't stress it.

Thank you so much, DrMediterranean! I m not sure if it will be the case, but your response sure does give me peace of mind. ::crossing fingers::

how many people had interviews before being accepted and how long after your secondaries did you get notice for the interview

To those fretting over lower MCAT scores:

I had a meeting with MSUCOM advising this summer before I retook the MCAT. I had a 26. I asked what I can do to strengthen my app, and they told me "nothing, why don't you go do something fun, like travel!"

Accepted this cycle.

FFW six months and I still retook the MCAT and found myself in an MS program....

So, don't completely freak over lower MCAT scores. It's definitely still possible to get in.

Same here, I was concerned about my MCAT also, with a similar score -- its just not given the importance here as other schools. I was also told that there is little correlation with board scores. I truly believe this as I proved this in dental school -- mediocre DAT scores and very high NDBE scores.
If you have an ave score, concentrate on ECs👍 and upper levels sciences.

hey guys!

is msucom like slow in responding emails nowadays..??

also: has someone previously had any errors in their MSUCOM prerequisite list that MSU sends you...? specifically, if u have a course u THOUGHT u needed to take, NOT listed as a deficient one, what are the chances that it was an error?

i've sent them two emails, one early last week and then again late last week, but no response :S

anywayz, could someone clarify something:

for the english requirement: would two courses that include extensive essay writing and critical analyses be counted as english, even if they aren't offered by the eng department..?? because i know kcumb accepted my religions course (which had essay exams and assignment) as an english course.. so wondering if it's the same case with msucom?

and another question: how accurate is this MSUCOM prerequisite chart that they send us?? :$ lol, why i ask is because i was thinking of taking a couple of courses which i THOUGHT i needed to take for msu (for example, english), and do need to definitely take for another school..but msu doesn't have them listed as "deficient"... so now i m not sure if i shud just go ahead and take those courses to be on safe side, or not take them...
it's a wierd situation, but has anyone else been in such a scenario?? i am going to be contacting the adcom about this anywayz... but thought of asking here as well..

Adcom isn't who you should be contacting, which is probably why they haven't responded--they're pretty busy this time of year. Email one of the advisors listed on the MSUCOM website. Katie Molina is the best and will get back to you quickly. Lori is great too though.

I didn't personally experience any errors. I hadn't yet taken a genetics class when I applied. After my acceptance, they emailed me saying I needed to take it before matriculation. It was pretty straightforward. Just ask one of the advisors about your situation.

There are plenty of Weds left in the year, if you haven't heard back today I wouldn't be worried too much.
