NC State University C/O 2019 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We got our letters during Spring Break (for main campus) last year 🙂 Their Spring Break is next week. Best of luck to the in-staters!

Are all letters going to be emailed this year? My mail man has been accidentally switching my neighbor (who is never home) and my mail. It's driving me crazy.
You will receive an email from [email protected] with a pdf file attached containing a letter indicating your admissions status.

This is a silly question, but do any current students know where most NCSU grads end up? I know they can end up anywhere, but I guess my question is that if they have a tendency to stay in the south? I haven't met any vets from NCSU (at the specialty hospital Im at) and I'm from NYC. So I just wanted to know if they usually like to stay in NC or close by, and what job opportunities recent grads are likely to get?

Thank you! I know you said earlier they were emails this year, but I wasn't sure if that was *just* out of state students. Email is definitely convenient!

I mean. I think as with any school, a lot of people tend to stay in state because this is where they were born and raised, etc. That being said, I know NCSU grads who work on dairies in Pennsylvania and California and in other practices all over the country. I think to some extent many states with vet schools will preferentially hire students from that school, but the thing is no matter where you graduate from you will have a veterinary education and are qualified to work anywhere. I don't really think that the school you go to effects this much if at all.

Thanks! Yeah I wasn't saying about the school affecting where you get a job, more so just about location. But that's good to know!

Talked to two faculty on admissions today and they both confirmed that IS admissions decisions will be going out VERY shortly. Decisions have already been made. The school is just sitting on the release. Likely tomorrow 🙂 Good luck, 2019! Can't wait to meet you. NCSU is simply a fantastic institution. It was my first choice for years as an OOS student. I couldn't be more pleased. Feel free to drop me a line if you've got any questions. Hope to see you soon in August!

Silence on my end.

Congrats to everyone so far!

Congrats ISers! I hope i get off this wait list and can join this awesome class!

It has been brought to our attention that applicants viewing emails on mobile devices do not receive the complete email. If you have issues viewing the email please review it on a non-mobile device, if issues persist contact the Student Services Office ([email protected])

Congratulations! Let us know if you have any questions. If you look back a few pages @protoplaster put instructions on joining the facebook page for your class!

How are those on the waitlist notified should an opening occur and we be chosen? Could we be notified at any point between now and April 15th? Will notification be by email?

Accepted 🙂
Looking forward to meeting you all

Do you have a Greyhound, 40mphcouchpotato? That moniker and your avatar photo certainly suggests that you do. Me too! I'm currently finishing up my first year at NCSU CVM. My boy's name is Apollo- he's getting to be an old man, but still going strong at 11 years old. I've seen a few Greyhounds around campus since I've been here. One of our guest lecturers in Animal Behavior has two. Congrats on your acceptance! Apollo and I will see you around campus.

Greetings, NCSU CVM c/o 2019!! Congrats on your acceptances! It's a wonderful school- I couldn't be more happy with the education that I'm receiving here. The c/o 2018 will be excited to meet you, whether for open house or during orientation in August! Get stoked!!

Hi Lab Vet, I did have a greyhound unfortunately she passed away a bit ago. But I do love greyhounds,; they're just such sweet dogs .

Does anyone know when should the OS who are Waitlisted start getting notified of their status? 😳

You will receive an update via email to the email address you listed on your VMCAS application. As we move beyond April 15 you may also receive notification via phone. Applicants who received offers of admission have until the VMCAS deadline of April 15th to indicate their decision. Therefore we may have several spaces that will need to be filled on April 15th.

I've got a question for any students from the C/O 2019 about the Welcome Reception and open House that is next week. I go out of state for undergrad so to attend I'd have to fly in and miss some classes. Do you think that attending the reception/open house was important and is definitely something worth doing, or if I already know I plan on attending NCSU CVM it might not be worth buying a plane ticket and missing classes?

I enjoyed the Welcome Reception but it was quite a blur. If you know you are going to come to NCSU you should be okay, all of your major stuff will come from orientation.

I would say, make sure you join the class of 2019 page to connect your new classmates.

Does anybody know-- where do most vet/grad students live that's less than a 15 min drive to campus and SAFE! ? Are there semi-inexpensive apartment complexes that come to mind? And if i someeeehowwwww get called off the wait list, is it too late to find an apartment (pet friendly, fitness center) in May or so?

Lots of places, we'll give you a list, and not at all -- that's when I signed. 🙂

Like prevet said there are lots and lots of places around the area that are safe and decently priced. May will not be too late at all to find a place. The advantage of this area is that you can be away from places that have a main target of undergraduates and still be within 15minutes of campus. There are also houses that have decently priced rent too.

It wasn't an easy decision but I had to turn down my acceptance. Congrats to whomever gets off the waitlist: you deserve it!

I agree with WulfpackChica and wolfpackprevet. There's lots of choice here with respect to living arrangements. Most folks live with roommates, but others live on their own (I have my own 1 BR). There are many apartment complexes from which to choose within a 15 minute driving distance (I live on the border of Raleigh-Cary; a 10 minute commute). Other students live communally in homes that they rent. I have a large dog and two rats, and didn't have any trouble finding housing. Upon visiting Raleigh for Welcome Weekend in March of 2014, I toured 5-6 complexes that interested me and locked down my favorite. I began paying for the unit in May, two months before I arrived in July (I'm an OOS student). This likely wasn't necessary, as housing isn't in short supply here. I have lived in other states, however, where housing was very, very hard to come by. I didn't want to get stuck in a lurch without a place to live.

Hey Guys! If you are coming to the Welcome events tomorrow, make sure you have a raincoat or umbrella with you. Part of your tours will require you to walk outside and there is a chance for rain.

Look forward to meeting you guys!

What dress attire should we aim for if we are attending the Welcome events tomorrow?

I'd recommend dress casual. Certainly nothing more impressive than that. Look forward to meeting you all!

Your tour will be about 45min, so wear comfy shoes.
