New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey everyone! i'm a current first year. just wanted to wish you guys luck! just for reference i had a 27 mcat, 3.7 gpa, and 3.3 science gpa. i applied in november, II in february and acceptance in march. IS applicant. my classmates had numbers that were both significantly higher and significantly lower than mine. so just relax and remember....they interview well into spring so theres plenty of time.

II today by email, I called and scheduled it and the only earliest available date is all the way in January. Is that an early interview for NYCOM, or is that late?

idk when i was complete tbh, sometime in like august or september. this cycle already feels long....

Wait have other people had this offer too? Only January!? I feel like the walls are closing in aka less opportunities to interview already lol

Are their interviews that full already?!! Actually January is not bad considering they start interviewing next month. It probably just that they have a high acceptance-matriculation rate.

They don't interview in December at all, so that's why.

Heads up to anyone waiting on a complete status...

I called admissions three times last week to find out if I was complete and I was informed that my LORs had not been added to my file yet. However, after calling back today, it turns out my file has been complete since 10/10 !

Sooo, apparently whomever you talk to may or may not be looking in the right places 😵

Hi guys, I'm thinking about applying here, but do you think it's too late? I would submit my primary ~this week, then fill out the secondary before primary is verified to try and streamline the process. Thanks! 🙂

Is your AACOMAS application already verified?

did u receive any kind of complete notification? was the II via email? congrats!
thank you! 🙂 I received an e-mail saying they received my payment and that my application was complete on Sept 12th, then got the II e-mail 10/20.

has anyone tried calling the admissions office? i went straight to voicemail..is that normal, or is there specific hours i need to call in?

I have a 3.6 cGPA, 3.3 sGPA, 33 MCAT. Complete early September. Still no II?!?!

I have similar numbers as you Sean Lee and I've been complete since late August/early September. Still waiting on an II too. I'm in state too so I was hoping to have an interview by now. Nothing to do but keep waiting I guess.

Do you ever get confirmation that your letters have been received? I sent them electronically on 10/12, but I haven't gotten any emails indicating anything...

I didn't receive an e-mail stating that they had my letters. I e-mailed them myself to make sure they had everything and they said they did.

No confirmation but I called them and they said I was complete and wait for a decision.

Anyone know if there is going to be any curriculum changes next year? I read on last year's forum that the class of 2019 will be the first to experience a new curriculum but couldn't find much more than that.

Does anyone know if they have a preference for IS applicants?

yeah they are changing the foundations course as far as I know...rumors are that they're setting aside time for lecture based students to have small group session once every week or 2 in a PBL type of session and they will be cutting down on the amount of lectures. honestly I think it's for the best as I don't go to lecture myself and just stream everything and the prerecorded lectures have better quality audio and video. not sure how this will effect the rest of the curriculum though as far as the systems based part goes. they just hired a new physician as part of the faculty, who is helping them revamp everything and so far it seems like she is doing a very good job. it seems like they are listening to our concerns and making changes for the better. we'll have to see i guess, but things definitely seem to be looking up here with the new changes (although just like any other school there are more than enough frustrations, primarily OMM related lol)

excuse the lack of any grammar whatsoever i'm just taking a quick break from studying lol

January 7th afternoon session =)
Oh haha. I asked because I cancelled my interview for Nov. 5th and I thought it would've been funny if they gave you the spot. Good Luck!

Interview invite today! Complete back in August. 28 MCAT. 3.6 GPA. Upstate NY resident. Called and scheduled interview for Nov 12. Appears like I got someone's cancelled interview since only other available dates were in January

Do we need to call to find out if we are complete??

wondering the same. emailed them awhile back and got no response, so assuming yes.
I actually ended up calling them yesterday and they said that they will not email you when you are complete. She ended up telling me that I am complete and that its just the waiting game to see whether I get an interview or not.

Based on friends that go there, the preference is NY > NJ > other northeast (MA/CT/NH/PA etc.) > rest of country. This is info from students and not admissions so take it with a bit of a grain of salt, but looking at the breakdown of the class, it seems to reflect this.

PS - I just realized this question was asked a while ago. Hoping someone answered it long before now.

Is NYCOM's residency preference for NYS residents or applicants from northeast in general? I have heard both. Can someone with knowledge of situation elaborate/clarify? thx!

really hoping to hear back soon. havent heard anything since 8/28. NJ resident, 3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA and 30 MCAT with decent EC's...

any other II updates?

any idea if nearby hotels offer discounted rates for a NYIT-COM interview?

Still waiting to hear back from NYCOM too, have been complete since late August too with above average MCAT and average GPA for NYCOM. Would really like an II here.
