Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Cool thanks for the advice, sorry for being such a n00b. I think I will give them a call and see whats up. All of my stuff was received August 6th so I'm gettin a little nervous about not having heard anything from them.

yo don't stress dude. mine was received like july 10, i'm sure they're slammed right now.

They are slammed. Remain patient and give it some time. It is still very early in the interview season. We just started our 4th week of school right now, so they officially ended last cycle a couple weeks ago (there were a few people accepted during first week). Just to add some perspective 😎

Just talked on the phone with them and they said my stuff had been reviewed by the community, but pending decision. so whatever that means haha

Does anybody know anything about the career services offered at NSU? especially when it comes to getting information and advice regarding specialty selection.

Last week was Club Week for the med school. Clubs from many specialties set up tables (sort of like a college fair, if you've ever been to one) and get people to join. Clubs serve to bring together like-minded individuals interested in certain specialties. They bring in speakers from the respective specialties and take part in discussions about how to get into these residencies. Some clubs have dinners and events with residency directors, etc. Just bring your checkbook, because it can get expensive.

Also, we have a preceptorship course (IGC) for the primary care fields (IM, FM, Peds) that spands M1 and M2. You can talk to the directors of these fields and gain insight on how to get into these residencies. We also get to do an Exploratory IGC experience where you can choose to shadow a doc from other specialties (derm, neuro, sports med, ob/gyn, etc.).

Overall, there are quite a few ways to get advice about career selection. You just need to actively pursue it.

Thanks Neuro. I've heard of the club week NSU and the help they provide. I'm just wondering how expensive it would be to join most clubs?

Anytime! No one expects you to join most of the clubs. Quite frankly you won't have the time to be involved with every single one of them. You simply choose which ones interest you the most. Prices range from FREE 🙂woot🙂 to more than $100. However, there are typically better incentives for joining the more expensive ones.

Interview here tomorrow! I'll be sure to post how it was 🙂

Anyone else going to be there?

Interviewing at NSU on 8/28. Anyone else? I'm arriving on the 27.

I will, here in Ft. Lauderdale now!

Are you guys nervous?

If you get hungry at all, I recommend stashing some of the crackers they have in the jars where you will be waiting for your interview. I think they're amazing. 👍

Lunch was pretty good for us last year. A lot better than what some of the other schools offered... but that in no way had a role in my decision to come here 😉

Hope you guys enjoy your interview day!

Did you just get the II? I'd like to know how you got the 28th, the earliest I could schedule for a couple of weeks ago was the 6th of sept. lol

I think today was the first group of interviews. Would love to hear how it went....

Finally got an II ! I was complete around July 25th.

Stats:
GPA: 3.55
MCAT:28

There is hope for those of you still waiting! Just be patient!

Just scheduled my airfare and hotel. Goodbye $480! (this will definitely be my most expensive trip as far as airfare goes). Sadly my flight arrives late (10:50pm) so they don't have a shuttle that late. If anyone is interviewing Oct 4, and is flying in late, and staying at the hotel listed below ($79) PM me know if you want to split a cab or something?

Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Plantation

Yes. interview just came in email. Time to travel to florida. : ]
damn it seems there are no spots for sept-oct.

That does not make me happy. I submitted my secondary on 7/18, and still no word from them. 🙁

Same. I submitted on Mon or Tues, and got the invite today. I think they must have sent out a lot of invites, because when I checked the site at 10:30, there were spots open for 9/5. However, I'm at work, and couldn't confirm a date yet, so now I'm stuck at the end of Oct. I hope it's not a mistake since I don't think they even have my letters yet. haha

I just called them again and they said that my app is still under a review and its been like that for a month!

I just got an II today! First one =]. For those still waiting on invites, the earliest open date was November 6th for me. They must have sent out a lot of people were able to see October 6th just a few hours ago? Anyone have information on this?

EXCITEDD! The first one is the scariest!

I'm sorry, guys! I have a masters degree where I took medical school classes at an MD school. Maybe they liked that?

I'm sure yours are coming very soon!

Not your fault to be sorry about. No harm is from you, it is all about the school. I am not liking this school more and more. I am having a very bad experience all around with them so far.

Maybe I pissed them off when I called them saying I was going to be in the area interviewing at another school, and if they would consider looking at my file so I could only fly to Florida from the west coast one time.

BTW, there are a lot of people with master's degrees that are applying... Mine may not be from a school where there were MD classes, but I have other strengths that I have been told would be good for a physician to have.

i sort of agree with you there. My stats aren't bad and I have no idea how they are being selective about which apps to look at first instead of going through them in order they received. Very unprofessional. Same goes for Lecome B actually.

I was apologizing because I know how rough this whole thing is. I'm obviously in the middle of it too. I KNOW that the people on here have amazing things going for them. I was just speculating because I know I personally would be wondering "why him?!?!" if I were you.

Professional? Do professional football teams consider the first person who ran the 40 yd dash? Or the person that ran it the fastest... Just a thought.

Just got my II for here today. I think they may have been waiting for my letters which they received yesterday? Very excited though! Earliest date available a few minutes ago was November 8th. Hang in there everyone, it is still early!

you guys who've already gotten ii, mind sharing your age? I wonder it might have to to with my very non traditional age....😎

I think I got mine a couple weeks ago too.

Edit: Checked my email and I got the ii on 8/6. Scheduled it the same day I think.
